IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
READ BEFORE USING YOUR HUMIDIFIER or 2 IN 1 AIR PURIFIER & HUMIDIFIER
1) This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized 120-volt AC, 15 amp outlet, and only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature. If an extension cord must be used, it should also accept the wide blade plug and meet this electrical rating.
2) Do not place the cord under rugs, near loose drapes, in traffic areas, nor near heat sources or combustible materials.
3) Do not use the unit if the cord is damaged.
4) Always unplug the power cord before filling, cleaning, servicing, or when the unit is not in use.
5) These units are UL listed with Essick Air brand evaporative wicks in place. To maintain your UL rating, see your service center for all repairs.
6) Regular cleaning is recommended. Refer to the CARE & MAINTENANCE section in the manual.
INTRODUCTION
Your Essick Air evaporative humidifier and 2 in 1 Air Purifier & humidifier add invisible moisture to your home by moving dry inlet air through a saturated wick. As air moves through the wick, the water evaporates into the air, leaving behind any white dust, minerals, or dissolved and suspended solids. Because the water is evaporated, there is just clean and invisible moist air. As the evaporative wick traps accumulated minerals from the water, its ability to absorb and evaporate water decreases. We recommend changing the wick at the beginning of every season. In hard water areas, more frequent replacements may be necessary to maintain your humidifier’s efficiency. The DP3 Series reduce the airborne contaminants in the air. During the winter months, the 2 in 1 unit functions as a humidifier and as an air purifier simultaneously. During the summer months, when no humidity is needed, the unit may be operated solely as an air purifier. By turning the humidistat fully clockwise, to its “lock-on” position, the unit will continue to operate as an air purifier even though no more humidity is needed. If operating only as an air purifier –do not add water to the water bottles. Functioning as an air purifier, this 2 in 1 unit reduces the amount of airborne particles that may be circulating in our homes. These particles may include:
Repeated long-term exposure to contaminants, such as those listed, as well as bacteria and viruses may result in respi r atory disorders and other health problems. Room air purifiers have been proven to reduce these airborne contaminants so that the air you breath e is heal thier. Use only Essick Air brand replacement wicks and chemicals. To order parts, wicks and chemicals call 1-800-547-3888. The 336 500 and DP3 Series humidifiers use Essick Air wick # 1040. The DP3 Series unit also uses air filter# 1202. Only the Essick Air evaporative wick guarantees the certified output of your humidifier. Use of wicks other than Essick Air brand will void your warranty as well as the certification of output and may reduce the efficiency of your humidifier.
CAUTION: Do NOT position the unit directly in front of a hot air duct or radiator. Do NOT place on soft carpet. We suggest placing the unit on a table or on a bookshelf.
BENEFITS OF YOUR 2 IN 1 AIR PURIFIER AND HUMIDIFIER- DP3 UNIT
It is important that any humidifier or air purifier that you are considering has its performance certified by an independent test lab. This way you will know exactly what you are buying. This unit has been tested and has its humidification and air purification performance certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM).
Smoke Household Cleaners Pesticides Fireplace Fumes Detergents Pet Hair/Dander Cooking Odors Mold Dust Pollen
2 in 1 units which have been certified will have the AHAM seal, listing the gallons per day water output as well as the CADR (Clean Air Delivery Ratings) on the package. The CADR rating is the single most important things to know about an air purifier. CADR is the amount of clean air (in cubic feet) the machine, with its air filter in place, will deliver into a room. It measures the net effect of the filter material and the air flow of the unit.
No other measurement tells you how well a unit works in your home. The higher the CADR rating on a specific particulate matter, the more efficient the unit is at removing that particulate. It is also good to know exactly what area or room size your unit will clean. Air Purifiers may be used in any room in the house. Typically, they are used in the room where people spend the most time- the bedroom and the family room.
The chart below will indicate the time required to clean the air in various sized rooms in your home. Remember, every time a door or window is opened, more particulates are introduced, which will increase the cleaning time.

ASSEMBLY
1) Remove all packaging materials before operation.
2) Before proceeding, make sure the evaporative wicks are resting as illustrated.
3) Refer to the CARE AND MAINTENANCE section for instructions on removing the wicks & air filter for cleaning and service. The wicks and air filter on the DP3 must be in position for proper operation as a humidifier and/or air purifier.
4) Place the humidifier “cabinet” with evaporative wick at the location where the product will be operated at least 4 inches from the wall. Fill bottle to capacity of 1 ¾ gallons, replace cap and tighten securely. Using both hands to carry the bottle to the base. NOTE: If only softened water is available, it can be used; however you will notice a build up of miner als on the evaporative wick much sooner. Do not spill water on fan motor. Electrical
components must be kept dry.
5) Make sure wick is resting all the way into the water channel as indicated by the illustrations.
6) Return bottle to its upright position using the handles on the top of the bottle. Set the
bottle in the recessed area, the top of the bottle flush with the top of the humidifier. See illustration. When positioned properly, the valve will open and water will flow into the water channel.
7) We recommend using Essick Air Bacteriostat Treatment whenever you refill the humidifier
reservoir to eliminate bacterial growth. Add bacteriostat according to the instructions on the bottle.
8) Plug cord into wall receptacle and turn humidifier on. The outlet grille is louvered
and may be rotated 360 degrees to direct the airflow where you want it.
**When excessive condensation exists, a lower speed setting is recommended.
CAUTION: Disconnect power before filling, cleaning or servicing unit. Keep grille dry at all times.
OPERATION & CONTROLS –
1) The unit should be placed at least FOUR inches away from any walls and away from
heat registers. Do not place on soft carpet. Unrestricted airflow into the unit will result in the best efficiency and performance. Set desired levels and speed. See illustration.
2) This unit has an automatic humidistat. This will turn the humidifier on when the relative humidity in your home is below the humidistat setting and will turn the humidifier off when the relative humidity reaches the humidistat setting. For initial operation, set the humidistat at its midpoint and adjust up or down from there to achieve the desired humidity level. NOTE: DP3 Series ONLY - During summer months, when no humidity is needed, the product may be operated only as an air purifier, by turning the humidistat as far as it will go in the clockwise direction to its lock-on position. Having the humidistat knob in the lock-on p osition will prevent the product from turning off if the humidity is high. The air purifier is designed to operate with BOTH wicks AND air filter in place, with or without water. Do not operate the unit in the lock-on position during the humidifying season. Essick Air will not be liable for water damage to your home due to excess humidity.
