When handling the ink cartridges

Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of
children and do not drink.
If ink gets on your skin, wash it off with soap
and water. If it gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
If you remove an ink cartridge for later use,
protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust, and store it in the same environment as this product. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink supply port or surrounding area.
Shake the ink cartridge well before installing
it for best results.
Caution:
c

Do not use an ink cartridge beyond the date
printed on the cartridge carton.
Use up the ink cartridge within six months of
installation for best results.
Do not dismantle the ink cartridges or try to
refill them. This could damage the print head.

When transporting this product

Before transporting the printer, make sure the
print heads are in the home (far right) position.
Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of
the cartridge. This may affect normal operation and printing.
The IC chip on this ink cartridge retains a
variety of cartridge related-information, such as the ink cartridge status, so that the cartridge may be removed and reinserted freely. However, each time the cartridge is inserted, some ink is consumed because the printer automatically performs a reliability check.

Epson offers a range of special media for ensuring high-quality printing. By selecting the right paper for the application, whether for indoor or outdoor use (lamination is recommended), you can express a whole new world of art. Also, the printer handles paper up to 1.5-mm thick and can also print on paperboard.
Borderless printing
Using Auto Expand or Retain Size, you can perform borderless printing.
See “Borderless Printing” on page 79.
There is also a borderless poster printing function that allows you to make big posters by simply joining together a number of prints.
See “Poster Printing” on page 89.
Auto Take-up Reel Unit provided as standard
This automatically takes up printed paper, keeping it clean and free of creases. It is also convenient for storage and transportation.
Auto selection for two kind of black inks
Both Photo and Matte Black ink are installed in this printer. Photo Black ink can be used for all media types with professional quality results. Matte Black ink significantly increases black optical density when printing on matte and fine art type papers. These black inks are switched automatically according to the papers.
Large-capacity (700 ml) ink cartridge
Epson provides the large-capacity (700 ml) ink cartridges for this printer that realize the high productivity required for professional work.
See “Paper Information” on page 110.
Using Epson UltraChrome K3 ink, you can achieve high-quality printing that resists fading
Combining Epson UltraChrome K3 ink and Epson special media ensures superior light fastness and ozone resistance. This opens up the range of uses from printing photos to displays and banners for storefronts using long paper, posters, and other applications normally subject to fading.
Stability of ink after printing
Since the color of the ink stabilizes soon after printing, the prints can be used in the prepress workflow and for color proof applications.
Reduced color difference in different light source conditions
Previously, coloring with light colors was used to achieve subtle tones. However, to minimize this and thereby reduce color differences in different light source conditions, Light Light Black ink is used instead. The color remains stable even under different light sources, ensuring consistently high quality printing.
High speed USB 2.0 / Gigabit Ethernet
You can connect to a high-speed network (such as USB 2.0 or Ethernet 100/1000) and that improves the file transfer speed.
Roll paper remaining
The remaining amount of the roll paper is displayed on the LCD panel. When you remove the roll paper, the barcode (including the paper type, the roll paper length, and the roll length alert value information) is printed on the roll paper edge. This will facilitate paper setting the next time the same paper is used.

Supported Media

We recommend you use Epson special media that can enhance the usage and expressive power of the printing results. See the following section for more information on the paper.
“Paper Information” on page 110
Note:
Do not use paper that is wrinkled, scuffed, torn,
dirty or otherwise imperfect.
Insert the paper just before printing. Remove it
from the printer when printing is finished and store it in accordance with the instructions for the media that you are using.
When you use paper other than Epson special
media, see the instructions included with the paper, or contact your supplier for more information. Test the print quality before purchasing a large amount of paper.

Loading roll paper

To load roll paper, follow the steps below.
Note:
When REMAINING PPR SETUP is ON, the barcode
(including the paper information) is printed on the roll paper edge before the paper is remove. This will facilitate paper setting the next time the same paper is used.
See “PAPER SETUP” on page 23.
We recommend that you load the roll paper
immediately before printing. If the paper roll is left in the printer, the roller for securing the paper may leave a mark on the surface of the paper.
Open the roll paper cover.
A
Caution:
c
You need to use the appropriate tension according to the roll paper. See the following section for information on the spindle tension. If you use the wrong tension, the print may be marred or the printer may be damaged.
See “Paper Information” on page 110.
Note:
We recommend that you switch the tension to high tension when using roll paper other than Epson's special paper, such as cloth or thin roll paper of less than 100 g/m2. In this case, paper is fed in smaller increments than usual. Increase the Paper Feed Adjustment value in the Custom Paper menu. If you print with normal tension, wrinkles may appear in the paper when printing continuously. For details, refer to the handling instructions of the roll paper. If wrinkles appears while using plain roll paper, set the tension to high tension. You can reduce wrinkles on the paper when using high tension.
With the fixed paper stopper (gray) on the
B
right, pick up the paper roll and place it in the paper roll holder. Then move the paper roll to the right.
Warning:
w
The paper roll is heavy so have two people pick it up by the paper stoppers at both ends.
