Microsoft Windows XP Users
Read This First
If your computer is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), you
must download and install an important patch to the operating system before
installing your product software. This patch is necessary to make sure that your
product software installs correctly.
To determine if you’re running the affected operating system version, click
My Computer and select Properties in the menu that appears. Your Windows
version is listed at the top of the screen:
If you have Service Pack 1 (SP1),
it is listed here
If you’re running Windows XP Service Pack 1, follow the steps below to access the
Microsoft web site to download and install the necessary patch.
If you’re not running Service Pack 1, continue with the instructions in your
product’s documentation to install your product software.
1. Start the software you use to access the Internet.
2. Go to this web address:
www.microsoft.com/downloads
3. In the Keywords field, type: Q329623 and click Go.

4. Click the link: Issue with DirectX May Cause DVD Players To Not Work.
Click this link
You see a download page for a problem with DirectX.® Don’t worry; this is the
patch file you need to download and install.
5. Click
Download in the box on the right of
the screen.
6. Click
Open to open the patch file, then
follow the on-screen instructions to install

7. Exit any programs you’re using and restart
your computer.
After your computer restarts, install your product software as described in the
documentation that came with your product.
