POWER SOURCE
This system is designed to operate on 120V 60Hz AC house current . Connecting this system to any other power supply could result in damage to the unit which is not covered by your warranty. You will note that this system is equipped with a polarized AC power plug having one blade wider than the other. This is a safety feature. If this plug does not fit into your ex isting AC outlet, do not try to defeat this safety feature by filing the wide blade to make it fit into your outlet. If this plug will not fit into your outlet, you probabl y have an out­dated non-polarized AC outlet. You should have your outlet changed by a qualified licensed electrician.

PREPARATION FOR USE
UNPACKING AND SET-UP
Carefully remove the unit from the carton and remove all packing material from
the unit.
Remove any labels or stickers which may be on the front or top of the set, but
do not remove any labels from the back or bottom.
We suggest that you retain the original carton and packing materials in case it
ever becomes necessary to return your unit for service. This is the only s ure way to protect the unit from damage in transit.
If you do dispose of the carton and packing materials, please do so properly.
Emerson cares about our environment.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• Playing CD’s at higher volume levels increases the battery drain and shortens
the battery life. Try to use AC power whenever it is available.
• You must remove the AC Power Cord from the AC Cord Sock et on the back
cabinet in order to operate the unit on batteries.
• We recommend using alkaline batteries for the longest possible life.
• Change the batteries when the output of the unit becomes weak or the sound
becomes distorted. Always change all eight (8) batteries at the same time.
• If the unit will be stored and not used for 30 days or more it is recommended to
remove the batteries from the battery compartment to reduce the possibility of damage from battery leakage or corrosion.
Follow these precautions when using batteries in this device:
1. Use only the size and type of batteries specified.
2. Be sure to follow the correct polarity when installing the batteries as indicated in the battery compartment. Reversed batteries may cause damage to the device.
3. Do not mix different types of batteries together (e.g. Alkaline and Carbon-Zinc) or old batteries with fresh ones.
4. If the device is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries to prevent damage or injury from possible battery leakage.
5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intended to be recharged; they can overheat and rupture. (Follow battery manufacturer’s directions.)

AC OPERATION
Connect the smaller end of the AC power cord to the AC socket on the back cabinet. Insert the plug into your 120 volt 60Hz household AC outlet.

BATTERY OPERATION
Disconnect the AC power cord from the AC socket of the unit. Battery power is cut automatically while the cord the is connected.
When the volume decreases, or the sound distorts, replace all of the batteries with new ones.

Insert 8 UM-2 ( size C ) batteries.
For private listening
Plug in headphones (ø3.5 mm stereo mini­plug) to the PHONES jack on back panel. When headphones are plugged in, the speakers are automatically disconnected.
LISTENING TO THE RADIO
1.) Press POWER button to turn power ‘On’ ‘POWER’ Indicator lights.

Manual Tuning:
Press the or buttons as many times as required until the frequency of the desired station appears on the display.
Automatic Tuning:
Hold the

up or down automatically and will lock onto the next strong signal.

1.) If you are listening to an FM Stereo station and the FM MODE

PRESET RADIO STATION IN THE MEMO RY
The radio in this sysrtem has a 20 station memory. You can store up to 10 AM and 10 FM stations in memory.
1.) Tune to the desired station, then press PROGRAM button. PROGRAM indicator flashes in the display.

TO SKIP TO THE BEGINNING OF A TRACK
• Press either one of the / SKIP SEARCH buttons according to the desired skip direction.
• Playback resumes from the selected track.
• When the button is pressed once during playback, the player advances to the beginning of the next track.
• When the button is pressed once during playback, the player returns to the beginning of the track being played. To go back to the beginning of the previous track press the button twice.
SEARCHING FOR A PASSAGE WITHIN A TRACK
• Keep the or button pressed during playback, and release the button as soon ass you recognize the desired passage. Normal CD playback will resume from this point.

PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK
Programmed playback enables tracks on a disc to be played in any desired order. Up to 21 tracks can be programmed.
NOTE : Programming can only be done when the player is in Stop mode.
1.) Press the PROGRAM button.

4.) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all desired tracks are programmed.
6.) Press STOP button to stop programmed playback.

8.) To clear the programmed memory, open the CD door or turn ‘Off’ the CD player.
Press the RANDOM button to play the tracks in random order. The RANDOM indicator appears in the display

and plays all the tracks in random order. When all tracks have played, the player stops and the display shows the total tracks and playing time.
Random playback can be selected while a disc is playing or while the player is in the Stop mode.
To cancel random playback pres s the RANDOM button until the RANDOM indicator disappears.

SETTING THE CLOCK

Clock can be set while clock time is displayed, at Power ‘Off’ mode only, and follow the procedures below:
1.) Press the MEMORY button for more than one second. The Hour will start flashing.

CD STORAGE COMPARTMENT
This model includes a built in CD storage compartment that allows you to conveniently carry up to 5 of your favorite CDs with you at all times.
Press on the CD storage door in the area marked “OPEN/CLOSE” to release the lock and open the storage compartment. The CD holder is mounted on the underside of the door.
Insert up to 5 CDs into slots of the CD holder with the printed label side facing up, as shown in the following illustration.
When inserting CDs start from the top slot and work your way downward.
To remove the CD’s start at the bottom of the stack and work upward. Do not try to grab the edge of the disc. Place your finger into the center hole of the disc and slide the disc out of the storage slot.

COMPACT DISC CARE
• To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges.
• Treat the disc carefully. Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny, unprinted side of the disc.
• Do not attach any tape, stickers, etc. to the disc label.
• Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth. Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD cleaning kit.
• If a disc skips or gets stuck on a section of the disc, it is probably dirty or damaged (scratched).
• When cleaning the disc, wipe in straight lines from the center of the disc to the outer edge of the disc. Never wipe in circular motions.

CLEANING THE UNIT
• To prevent fire or shock hazard, disconnect your unit from the AC power source when cleaning.
• If the cabinet becomes dusty wipe it with a soft dry dust cloth. Do not use any wax or polish sprays on the cabinet.
• If the cabinet becomes dirty or smudged with fingerprints it may be cleaned with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a mild soap and water solution. Never use abrasive cloths or polishes as these will mar the finish of your unit.
CAUTION:
Never allow any water or other liquids to get inside the unit while cleaning.

What does this warranty cover ? Any manufacturing defects in original material, including original
parts and workmanship, under normal use and conditions.
For how long? For a period of ninety (90) days from the date of original purchase in the U.S. What will we do ? If you need service under this Warranty, and you provide us with the dated proof
of purchase, we will provide repair service at no charge for labor and parts at an authorized Depot Repair Facility, or replace the product in our discretion.
How do you make your warranty claim ? If it becomes necessary to repair your unit, you can
obtain the name and mailing location of a Depot Repair Facility by dialing 1-800-695-0098. You should pack your unit in a well-padded heavy corrugated box, enclose your check or money order payable to the Depot Repair Facility in the amount of $9.00 to cover the return shipping and handling costs, and enclose a copy of your proof of purchase (warranty service will not be provided without a dated proof of purchase). Finally, you should ship the unit prepaid via UPS or parcel post (insured).
What does your warranty not cover ? Your warranty does not cover the following :
Damage from negligence, misuse, abuse, accident, or failure to follow operating instructions.
Use of product in a commercial application or rentals.
Changes or repairs by anyone other than an authorized Depot Repair Facility.

Unit on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed.
