has a 20 track programmable memory so you can listen to the songs on
your favorite CDs in any order you choose. Or you can use the Random
playback feature and let the player select the playback order for you. Use
the 3-way Repeat feature to repeat a single track, the entire disc, or a
programmed sequence of tracks, indefinitely. We've also included 40 second
electronic Anti-Skip Protection for normal CDs and 100 second Electronic
Anti-Skip Protection for MP3 CDs which makes this player virtually skip-free
during most active uses.

you understand the proper operation of this product, and get the maximum

PREPARA TION FOR USE
REMOVE THE TRANSIT CARD
This personal CD/MP3 player is shipped with a dummy CD ‘transit card’ inside the
CD compartment. The purpose of this card is to prevent the laser from moving
during shipment of the product. This card must be removed before using the CD
player.
Slide the OPEN switch to the right to unlock the CD door. Remove the ‘transit card’
from the player and discard it.
POWER SOURCES
This personal CD/MP3 player is designed to operate on two “AA” batteries, not
included. Use a well known brand of alkaline batteries for longest life and best
performance.
This player can also be operated by an optional AC/DC converter/adapter, not
included. If you decide to purchase an optional AC/DC adapter the specification
must be as follows:
Input: 120V 60Hz AC
Output: 4.5V DC, 500 mA.
Plug: 1.7 mm Female Type with Positive Center, UL Listed.

You may also purchase a “Universal” type AC/DC adapter which allows you to
select the required output voltage and plug polarity, and normally includes multiple
plug sizes to fit most brands of equipment. Always look for the “UL” listing mark
when you purchase an adapter.

INSTALLING THE BATTERIES
Note: The battery compartment is located inside the CD compartment.
1.) Slide the OPEN switch to the right to open the CD door. If you have not already
done so, remove the dummy CD ‘transit card’ and discard it.
2.) Press down on the “Arrow” mark in the center of the battery door and slide the
door outward as shown until the door ‘pops’ open.
3.) Insert two alkaline “AA” batteries in the battery compartment. Be sure to observe
the polarity markings engraved in the battery compartment. If the batteries are
inserted incorrectly the unit will not work.
4.) Fold the battery removal ribbon over the top of the batteries, close the battery
door, and slide the door inward into it is fully locked again.
5.) Close the CD door.
REPLACING THE BATTERIES
When the battery symbol appears in the display the batteries are becoming
weak and should be replaced. Always replace both batteries at the same time with
new fresh alkaline batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of
batteries together.
If the display remains blank when you press the PLAY/PAUSE button, the batteries
are completely dead. Replace them immediately. If dead batteries are left inside
the battery compartment for a long period of time they may leak and cause damage
to the unit, and such damage or corrosion from leaking batteries is not covered by
your warranty.

1.) Connect the small female plug of the optional AC adapter to the “ DC IN 4.5 V”
jack on the right side of the CD player.

• The housing of the AC adapter may become warm during operation. This is
normal.
• The female plug of the AC adapter must be completely disconnected from the
CD player in order to operate the player on batteries.
Follow these precautions when using batteries in this device:
1. Use only the size and type of batteries specified.
2. Be sure to follow the correct polarity when installing the batteries as indicated in the battery
compartment. Reversed batteries may cause damage to the device.
3. Do not mix different types of batteries together (e.g. Alkaline and Carbon-Zinc) or old batteries
with fresh ones.
4. If the device is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries to prevent
damage or injury from possible battery leakage.
5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intended to be recharged; they can overheat and rupture
(Follow battery manufacturer’s directions.)

CONNECTING THE STEREO HEADPHONES

jack on the left side of the cabinet.
NOTE: Make sure the headphone plug is inserted into the PHONES jack as
far as it will go. If the plug is not fully inserted, you may only hear sound from

IMPORTANT!
Always set the VOLUME control to a low level before you put the headphones on
and begin playing a CD. Then start playback and gradually increase the volume to
a comfortable listening level. Do not play the CD at loud volume levels that might

OPERATI NG INSTRUCTIONS
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
HOLD Switch
The HOLD switch on the left side of the cabinet must be in the ‘Off’ (left) position
to start the CD player. If you plan to carry the CD player in a handbag, briefcase,
school bag, back pack, etc, slide the HOLD switch to the ‘On’ (right) position.
While the HOLD switch is ‘On’ all of the controls on
CD HOLD
the CD door are disabled. This prevents the player
from starting accidentally by something pressing
PLAY
against the PLAY/PAUSE button.
After you begin CD playback you may also slide the HOLD switch to the ‘On’ (right)
position to disable all the controls on the CD door. You can then place the player in
a handbag, backpack, etc, and do not have to worry that the player will be
accidentally turned off by something pressing against the STOP button or Track
Skip buttons.
Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB) and Preset Equalizer (EQ) Functions
During CD playback you may press the EQ button repeatedly to activate the Dynamic
Bass Boost function or select one of the four preset equalizer settings:
(POP/CLASSIC/JAZZ/ROCK)
Pressing the EQ button repeatedly will cycle the player through the following modes:
DBB (Dynamic Bass Boost ‘On) POP CLASSIC JAZZ ROCK
FLAT (EQ ‘Off’) DBB.
The selected mode will appear in the display for a few seconds and then the PLAY
indicator reappears.
When the disc stops or is removed from the player the EQ returns to the original
default setting (DBB ‘Off’/ EQ ‘Off’).

Electronic Skip Protection (ESP)
This CD player includes an Electronic Skip Protection circuit that continuously
stores 40 seconds of CD music (100 seconds for MP3 discs) in an electronic
memory. If the player is bumped or shaken you will not hear any skipping because
the player is reading from the memory, not directly from the disc. Of course if the
shaking continues for more than 40 seconds (100 seconds for an MP3 disc) the
ESP memory will be depleted and that player may skip or stop if the shaking
continues.
To activate the ESP memory function during playback press the ESP/ALBUM
button. The display will show “ESP ON” momentarily, then the ESP meter will
appear and begin to fill up with bars. Each bar represents approximately 10 seconds
of music in the memory (25 seconds for an MP3 disc).
When all 4 bars appear the memory contains 40 seconds of music (100 seconds
for an MP3 disc). If the player is bumped or shaken one or more of the bars may
disappear as the memory is depleted . When the shaking stops the memory
will fill up again.
To deactivate the ESP function, press the ESP button again. “ESP OFF” will appear
briefly in the display.
Notes:
• The ESP circuit draws additional current from the batteries. To extend the
battery life leave the ESP circuit ‘Off’ when the unit is used in a stable location
not subject to bumps and shakes.
• When the ESP circuit is switched ‘On’ or ‘Off’ the sound will be interrupted for
2 to 5 seconds. This is normal and not an indication of any problem with the
player.
• When playing an MP3 disc the ESP circuit is activated automatically and cannot
be switched ‘Off’.

• Make sure you have installed the batteries.
• Make sure the HOLD switch is set to the ‘Off’ (left) position.
• Make sure to set the VOLUME control to a low setting before you put on
the headphones.
IMPORTANT:
This CD player can play normal CDs plus CD Recordable (CD-R) and CD
Rewriteable (CD-RW) discs. However the playability of CD-R/RW discs may be
affected by the type of software that was used in ‘ripping’ the tracks from the
original discs and ‘burning’ the tracks onto the blank media. Playability may also
be affected by the quality and condition of the blank media you use for recording.
100% compatibility cannot be guaranteed. This is not an indication of any problems
with your player.
1.) Slide the CD door OPEN switch to the right to unlock
and open the CD door.
2.) Place your CD on the center spindle with the printed
label side facing up. Press downward on the disc near
the center hole until the disc is fully seated on the
spindle.
3.) Close the CD door and connect the headphones to
the PHONES jack (green color).
4.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playback.
The display will show “READING” while the player
reads the disc. The total tracks and playing time will
appear briefly in the display and then the PLAY
indicator appears and playback will begin on track 1.
The display will show the elapsed playing time of the
track being played.

NOTES:

• If the disc is a normal CD the “CD” indicator appears in the display. If the disc
contains compressed MP3 files the “MP3” indicator will appear in the display.
• If the disc contains compressed MP3 files the “READING” process will take
longer before playback begins. Also the ESP circuit will turn ‘On’ automatically.
5.) Adjust the VOLUME, EQ, and ESP controls as desired.
6.) Playback will continue until the end of the disc, then the player will stop
automatically and the display will again show the total tracks and playing time
on the disc. After 20 seconds the power switches ‘Off’ automatically to conserve
the batteries and the display goes blank. To stop playback before the disc
ends press the STOP button at any time. Press the STOP button after the disc
has stopped to shut the power ‘Off’ completely.
PAUSE CONTROL
To pause momentarily during playback press the PLAY/PAUSE button again. The
PAUSE indicator appears and the track number flashes. The sound stops but the
disc continues to spin. Press the PLAY/PAUSE
button once more to cancel Pause mode and
resume normal playback. The PAUSE indicator
is replaced by the PLAY indicator and the track
number display stops flashing.
PAUSE
SKIP/SEARCH CONTROLS
Press the SKIP FWD or SKIP REV buttons repeatedly during playback to skip to
higher or lower numbered tracks. Playback will begin on the selected track.
To search within a track at high speed to locate a specific musical passage depress
and hold either the SKIP FWD or SKIP REV controls. The player will search rapidly
forward or backward as long as the buttons are depressed. The volume is
automatically muted during high speed search. Watch the elapsed time display.
When the time display reaches the desired point, release the buttons. Normal
playback will resume at that point and the volume returns to normal level.

MODE BUTTON
Pressing the MODE button during playback cycles the player through the following
four special playback modes:
REPT (Repeat) 1 REPT ALL INTRO SHUFF (Random) Playback.

The player can be programmed to continuously repeat a single track or the entire
disc automatically.
One Track Repeat
During playback press the SKIP FWD or SKIP REV
buttons to select the track to be repeated, then
press the MODE button once. The REPT 1
indicator appears in the display and the selected
track will be repeated continuously.
Press the STOP button to cancel Repeat 1 playback.
All Tracks Repeat
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playback,
then press the MODE button twice. The REPT ALL
indicator will appear in the display and the entire
disc will be repeated continuously.
Press the STOP button to cancel Repeat All playback.

INTRO (Intro Scan) PLAYBACK
The Intro Scan feature plays only the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc.
This feature is useful when you are trying to find a particular song but you cannot
remember the title.
1.) Load your disc in the player as usual and press the PLAY/PAUSE button to
begin playback.
2.) When playback begins press the MODE button 3 times. The INTRO indicator
flashes.
3.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE button once more.
The INTRO indicator stops flashing and
remains ‘On’. The player backs up to the
INTRO CD

beginning of track 1, plays the first 10 seconds
of each track on the disc, and then stops.
To cancel Intro Scan playback press the STOP button.
SHUFFLE (Random) PLAYBACK
When Shuffle playback is selected all the tracks on the disc will be played back in
random order.
1.) Load your disc in the player as usual and press the PLAY/PAUSE button to
begin playback.
2.) When playback begins press the MODE button 4 times. The SHUFF indicator
flashes.
3.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE button once more.
The SHUFF indicator stops flashing and
remains ‘On’. The player randomly selects a
track for playback. After each track has played
once the player stops.

PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK
You can program up to 20 tracks on a disc to play in any desired order.
NOTE: You cannot program a disc during playback. If the disc is playing press
the STOP button first to stop playback and then follow the programming steps
below.
1.) While the total tracks and playing time appear
on the display press the PROG button once.
The PROG indicator and the Program Number
(P – 01) appear, and the track number (000) flashes.
2.) Press the SKIP FWD or SKIP REV button to
select the first track to be programmed.
Example: Track 002.
3.) When the desired track number is flashing in
the display press the PROG button again to
enter the desired track number in Program
Number 01. The track number returns to “000”
and the Program Number advances to “P – 02”.

4.) Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to program additional tracks up to a maximum of 20.
5.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin
programmed playback. The PROG indicator
remains in the display and the track display

Playback begins with the first track you programmed and continues until all
programmed tracks have been played, and then the player stops. The
programmed sequence will remain in the memory until the power shuts off
(approximately 20 seconds) or until the CD door is opened. If you press the
PLAY/PAUSE button again before the power shuts off the programmed
sequence will play again.

MP3 CD PLAYBACK
CDs that contain compressed MP3 audio files can store approximately 10 times
as much music as a normal CDs. It is possible to record up to 10 hours of music in
MP3 format on a single disc.
Audio files may be downloaded from the Internet onto your computer’s hard drive
or ‘ripped’ from normal CDs. They are then compressed into MP3 format files by
software on your computer and recorded or ‘burned’ onto blank discs.
Typically when making your own MP3 CDs you will organize the song titles into
‘Directories’, also called ‘Albums’, by artist, or by type of music. The software in
this CD player can recognize up to 99 ‘Directories’ containing up to a total of 300
“files” or tracks.
NOTE: Because MP3 CDs contain so much more information than normal CDs
this CD player will take longer to ‘Read’ all of the information on an MP3 disc after
you press the PLAY/PAUSE button. You may see the “READING” indicator for a
minute or more before playback begins. This is normal and not an indication of any
problem with your player.
Most of the normal CD operations described in this manual also apply to MP3 CDs.
However there are a few differences in MP3 CD playback functions, and these are
described on the following pages.

As mentioned on previous page, because MP3 CDs contain much more information
than normal CDs it takes longer for the player to ‘Read’ an MP3 disc and display
the Table of Contents information.
After you load an MP3 CD in the player and press the PLAY/PAUSE button the
player will read each of the ‘Directories’ (or ‘Albums’) on the disc, one at a time,
and display the Directory Number and the cumulative number of tracks in the
directories that have already been read.
For example if we insert an MP3 CD containing 11 ‘Directories’ (or ‘Albums’) and a
total of 172 “files” or tracks, the display sequence will be as follows:

In the above example playback will continue until all 172 tracks have been played,
as long as the batteries have sufficient power.
The PLAY/PAUSE, SKIP FWD, SKIP REV and STOP controls have the same
functions for MP3 CDs as they do for normal CDs.
To skip quickly from a track in one directory to a track in another directory,
proceed as follows:
1.) Load your MP3 CD in the player, press the PLAY/

MP3 CD REPEAT PLAYBACK

There are 3 Repeat Playback options with MP3 CDs. In addition to the Repeat 1
Track and Repeat All Tracks options which are the same for normal CDs, you may
also select Directory Repeat Mode to repeat all the tracks contained in a single
Directory (Album).
• To repeat a single track on an MP3 CD
Select the track to be repeated and start
playback as usual. Then press the MODE
button once. The “REPT 1” indicator appears
and the selected track will be repeated
continuously.
• To repeat all the tracks in a single Directory (or Album)
Select the directory to be repeated as usual.
When playback begins on Track # 001 of the
selected Directory, press the MODE button
twice. Both the “REPT” and “DIR” indicators appear in the display and all the
tracks in the directory will be repeated continuously.

• To repeat all the tracks on an MP3 CD
Begin playback as usual, then press the MODE

These functions operate the same way for MP3 CDs as they do for normal CDs.
Intro Scan
Begin playback of the MP3 CD as usual and then press the MODE button until the
“INTRO” indicator flashes in the display. Press the
PLAY/PAUSE button to begin Intro Scan playback.
The “INTRO” indicator stops flashing and Intro
Scan playback begins. The player will play the first

Shuffle (Random) Play
Begin playback of the MP3 CD as usual and then press the MODE button until the
“SHUFF” indicator flashes in the display. Press the
PLAY/PAUSE button to begin Shuffle (Random)
playback. The “ SHUFF” indicator stops flashing and
Shuffle (Random) playback begins. The player will
play all the tracks on the disc in Random order.

you use to create the disc will normally allow you to input the name of the artist, the

MP3 CD PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK
• When programming the tracks on an MP3 CD you must also select the Directory
Number of the tracks being programmed.
• You can program up to 20 tracks on an MP3 CD, same as for a normal CD.
• Programming can only be done while the player is in the Stop mode. If the
MP3 disc is playing, first press the STOP button and wait until the display
shows the total Directories, Tracks, and Playing Time on the disc, then follow
the programming steps below.
In this example the MP3 CD contains a total of
MP3
11 Directories and 172 Tracks.

Let’s assume that the first track we want to program is Track # 003 in
Directory # 05.
1.) Press the PROG button. The display shows
Directory “01” flashing, Track “000” and Program
Number “P – 01”.
2.) Press the SKIP FWD button repeatedly to select
Directory # 05.
3.) Press the PROG button to enter Directory # 05 in
Program Memory P – 01.
4.) Press the SKIP FWD button repeatedly to select
Track # 003.
5.) Press the PROG button to enter Track # 003 in
Program Memory P – 01. The Program Number
display advances to “P – 02”, the Track Number
returns to “000”.

6.) Repeat Steps 2 through 5 to enter up to 20 tracks in the program memory.
After you have entered up to 20 tracks in the Program Memory press the PLAY/
PAUSE button to begin programmed playback.

IMPORTANT! RESETTING THE SYSTEM MEMORY
If this player is subject to a severe electric shock (ESP) or a repeated, intentional
series of incorrect key commands, the system memory may “freeze” and the player
will not respond to any further key commands. If you find that the player is not
responding when you operate the controls, first make sure that the batteries are
not dead.
If the batteries are OK, open the CD door for 10 seconds, re-close it, and try the
operation again. If the player still fails to respond, remove the batteries from the
unit, wait at least one minute for the system memory to clear, and then re-install
the batteries.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
CLEANING THE CABINET
Wipe with a soft cloth. If the cabinet is very dirty, dampen the cloth with a weak
solution of neutral detergent and water, and then wipe clean.
CLEANING THE LENS
A dirty lens will cause sound skipping and, if the lens is very dirty, the CD may not
work. Open the disc cover and clean the lens as follows:
DUST OR DRY PARTICLES
Using a camera lens brush/blower, blow on the lens
several times, then wipe it lightly with the brush to remove
dust. Then, blow on the lens once more.
FINGERPRINTS
To remove fingerprints from the lens, use a cotton swab
starting in the middle and working to the outside edge.
Use only very light pressure on the lens to avoid forcing
it out of alignment.
CLEANING THE DISC
When a disc becomes dirty, clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc from the
center out.
NOTE:
Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners or
anti-static spray intended for analog discs.
