2 Warranty conditions
The receipt quittance is evidence for the initial purchase and should be
retained, because it is necessary for guarantee services. If the product is
passed on to another user, the warranty will still be valid until the end of the
guarantee period. The voucher and this declaration should be given to the new
owner.
We guarantee that this unit is in fully functional condition and conforms to the
attached documentation with regard to the technology.
The guarantee period corresponds to the minimum period which is required by
law.
This guarantee does not cover following cases:
Defects by: freight damages, accidents, natural disasters, misuse,
vandalism, improper handling, wrong maintenance or wrong repair.
In case of changes, unauthorized interventions, maloperation, other
devices or accessory, wrong installation or other modifications which have
not been authorized by us.
In case of misusing the instructions which were attached at the delivered
documentation.
In case of incompatibility of the product due to possible technical
innovations or regulations which occur after purchase.
In case of incompatibility or malfunction due to applied product components
which have not been authorized by us.
In case of appearances due to normal ageing of the product (waring parts).
In case of defects which have been caused by external equipment.
The guarantee period for parts which have been substituted and/or exchanged
within this guarantee ends together with the origin guarantee for this product.
Units which are sent without accessories will also be substituted without
accessories. Returned consignments will just be accepted in the original
packaging.
Indirect transport charges are generally not covered by the guarantee.

The company EFFEKTA GmbH does not assure explicit or implicit guarantee
with regard to this item and its quality, performance, negotiability or
applicability for a certain purpose. In some countries the exclusion of implicit
guaranties is not allowed. In this case the validation of all explicit and implicit
guaranties is limited to the guarantee period. With the end of this guarantee
period, all guaranties are not valid any more. In some countries the limitation of
the guarantee period is not allowed, so that the above mentioned limitation is
not valid.
2.1 Liability limitation
Claim of damages are excluded only in case of intention or grossy negligence
of the EFFEKTA GmbH or its employees. The liability according to the product
liability law remains unaffected. We are in any circumstances not liable for:
Claims of other parties due to loss or damage.
Loss or damage of the records, data or the costs of replacement of this
data.
Economic consequential damages (including lost benefits or
economizations) or accompanying damages, also if we have been informed
of the possibility of such damages.
In any circumstances EFFEKTA GmbH is not responsible for any accidental,
indirect, special, consequential or other damages of any kind (including without
any limitation, damages with regard to profit loss, business interruption, loss of
business information or any other losses) which occur due to usage of this unit
or related with this unit, unless based on contract, claim for damages,
negligence, strict liability or other claims, also if EFFEKTA GmbH has been
informed of the possibility of such damages in advance. This exclusion also
covers every liability which can occur to the initial buyer due to claims of other
parties.
In some countries the exclusion or limitation of accompanying or consequential
damages is not allowed by law, so that the above mentioned declaration is not
valid.

3 Safety
3.1 General Safety Instructions
Read the manual attentively and respect the safety instructions which are
mentioned in this chapter before doing taking further steps (transport, storage,
connection, setting-up, etc.).
As UPS-systems are working with voltage and have got corresponding internal
or external energy storages (batteries with high capacity), the instructions in this
chapter are very important for all users and the whole stuff. Therefore we also
mention safety instructions for batteries and battery packs. Nevertheless you
have to respect the own instructions of external battery packs when using them.
Only authorized specialized staff is allowed to do workings on the UPS.
To ensure the safety of applications in which the UPS is going to be connected
with power supply, you have to assure that the unit is installed by a qualified
electric installation company.
The UPS disposes of an intern energy source (battery). There can be voltage
on the terminal output, if the battery should be switched-on even if there is no
AC.
Ensure that the AC output is correctly grounded.
Do not open the casing, because there are just parts which are maintenancefree. The guarantee expires by opening the casing unauthorized.
Do not try to repair the unit by yourself. Contact your retailer or your guarantee
will expire.
Ensure that input voltage of the UPS corresponds to the supplying voltage.
Use certificated mains cords with fitting plug-ins and sockets for the
corresponding voltage supplying system.
Dusty, corrosive and saline environments can damage the UPS.
Do not install the UPS close to devices which heat excessively and in very wet
environments. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
The battery pack usually unloads itself when the system has not been used for
a longer period of time.
In case of non-use the battery pack should be loaded every 2-3 months. In
case of non-observance the guarantee expires. During the installation and
operation, the batteries reload automatically and are kept in good condition.

This UPS provides electronically units in offices, telecommunication systems,
process controls, medical and safety applications. Not authorized persons are
not allowed to install the UPS in the following fields.
1. Medical applications for the protection of human life.
2. Lifts, underground railways or other constructions with high safety
requirements.
3. Public constructions or critical computer systems.
Do not install the UPS close to environments where can be sparks, smoke or
gas.
During the transport you have to ensure that the UPS is switched-off.
The UPS is equipped with a maintenance and bypass switch. Pay attention to
the application for the changeover. Non-observance can destroy the unit.
The UPS is provided with a CVCF (constant voltage, constant frequency)
setting function. For correct installation and wiring, contact your local supplier.
This UPS is developed and constructed to protect your constructions from
power disturbances, which nowadays occur in power lines. The UPS
guaranties a reliable, clean and continuous voltage supply. Ensure a correct
installation of the system and let it maintain correspondingly from your local
supplier.

3.2 Transport and storage
The UPS has to be transported in its original packaging, also in case of moves
or returns.
Do not transport the unit headlong.
Protect the position during transport and pay attention to the centre of mass.
Even in case of UPS with inbuilt batteries it can happen easily that the units fall
down.
During storage also ensure a stable position.
3.3 Installation
The UPS is destined for ventilated rooms.
The installation and assembly of the UPS has to comply with the specified
installation position given by the manufacturer.
If fast temperature changes occur, it is possible that the UPS will be dewed.
Before taking further steps an acclimatization time of at least 2 hours has to be
guaranteed.
Never install the unit in a humid environment. Keep the UPS free of liquids.
Do not install the UPS close to devices which heat excessively.
Ensure that the air slots of the units and the air circulation are not blocked.
3.4 Connection
The UPS just has to be connected to a earth contact socket or in case of
terminal alignment the PE (protective earthing conductor) has to be connected.
In no circumstances the unit is allowed to operate without PE.
The socket has to be easily accessible and close to the UPS. In case of
permanent connection use short cord-lengths.
For the connection of the UPS with the socket only use a cord which is
certificated with the VDE and CE sign. In case of permanent connection use a
corresponding cord.
For the connection of the connected machines with the UPS only use a cord
which is certificated with the VDE and CE sign. In case of permanent
connection of the connected machines use a corresponding cord.
The protection of the connected machines always has to be in front of one
connected machine, never centraly in front of the UPS.
Do not connect the UPS with domestic appliances and hand tools as e.g. fan
heater, vacuum cleaner, boring machine, hardrier, toaster, etc.

Do not connect the UPS with machines which could overload it (e.g. laser
printer).
The sum of earth fault currents of all with the UPS connected machines should
not be higher than 3.5mA.
Keep the access lines short and always connect them correctly. Dagers as to
stumble, to squeeze, etc. have to be avoided.
3.5 Operation
During the operation of the UPS, the feeder never has to be uncoupled,
otherwise the protective grounding of the UPS and of the connected machines
would be cut.
The UPS has got an energy storage (batteries). Therefore the output can be
conducting, also if the input of the UPS is not connected.
To switch-off the UPS completely, please follow the instructions of chapter 9.7.
Keep the UPS free of liquids and foreign particles.

3.6 Application of batteries
Attention – risk of electric shocks and burns.
Batteries can cause electric shocks and have high short-circuit currents, which
also can cause burns.
Unauthorized persons should be kept away from batteries.
Keep devices which heat away from the batteries and do not throw them into
fire. Danger of explosion!
Do not open or damage the batteries. The redundant electrolyte is very
dangerous for humans and environment (danger of cauterization on skin and
eyes, toxic).
Defect batteries have to be disposed eco-friendly.
Never throw batteries into domestic waste.
Follow the local directives of disposing.
3.7 Maintenance, service and errors
Attention – risk of electric shocks.
Even after cutting the current circuit, the UPS stays connected with the batteries
and has got dangerous voltage. Before doing maintenance or service works, cut
the current circuit of the batteries and ensure that there is no voltage.
Only specialized staff with know-how about the essential safety instructions, is
allowed to do workings on the batteries and to control them.
Keep unauthorized persons away from the batteries.
For works on the UPS you have to pay attention to following instructions:
Wristwatches, rings and other things of metal have to be removed;
just use isolated hand tools;
It is not allowed to deconstruct the UPS.

4 Introduction
This manual should inform you essentially about one-phase online UPSsystems and its functioning, the application of several functions and about what
to do in case of service disturbances. Furthermore this manual includes
applications for transport and storage as well as handling and installation of the
UPS-systems. The directives for planning in this manual, are only regarding to
the special demands of UPS-systems. Comply with the national, local
directives for electronic installation when installing the UPS. The content of this
manual can change due to developing technologies. We aimed to make the
content correct and clear. Please do not hesitate to contact us, f you discover
any errors. E.&O.E. We are not liable for any consequential damage due to
errors & omissions.
The UPS-system is created to protect sensitive electric machines for example
computers, workstations, electronic cases, critical instruments,
telecommunication stations, process control, etc. from interruptions, which can
be caused by bad current quality or power failures. Sensitive machines need a
good protection from interruptions. Those interruptions can have external
causes (as storms, breakdowns) or interruptions caused by close-standing
machines (as motors, air conditioning, machine tools, welding tools, and
others). Those interruptions can be summarized as follows:
Fast and slow circuit voltage peaks, current fluctuations;
Power failures;
Fast and slow frequency peaks, frequency fluctuations;
overload or transients
The UPS conditions the circuit voltage and ensures that the voltage values at
the output to the connected charge, remain constant. Therefore circuit
interruptions cannot reach critical instruments and so they cannot make
damages on software, hardware or cause data losses or breakdowns.

5 System description
The UPS is in a non-stop service with double conversion mode. It conditions
the current circuit and supplies an uninterruptible, undisturbed and one-phase
voltage for critical machines. During supplying the connected machines, it
keeps its internal batteries in a charged condition. In case of a power failure or
a power disturbance, the UPS supplies also uninterrupted and clean voltage at
its output. During battery service, the energy comes from the batteries.

This block drawing shows the particular modules and their interactions.
If the power failure goes longer than the autonomy time of the UPS, it
switches-off automatically to avoid total discharge of the batteries. When the
circuit voltage returns, the UPS switches-on automatically, supplies the
connected machines and controls the load of the batteries.
Special features of the MH Online UPS are:
No interruptions or signal-changes in case of breakdown of the primary
circuit supply;
Perfect sinus voltage at the output of the UPS. Much better quality of the
output voltage compared to the voltage of the in-house network;
Bypass with process control;
„Power factor“correction at the input (>0.95);
High efficiency factor of the inverter >90% DC / AC;
efficient communication interface (RS232- Interface)

7 Storage and unpacking
7.1 Storage of the UPS
If the unit is not going to be installed immediately, follow those instructions:
Store and keep the UPS always in its original packaging.
Suggested environmental temperature for storage is: +5°C...+30°C.
Keep humidity away from the UPS.
If the storage time is longer than 3 months, the UPS and its external battery
pack (optional) have to be put into service for about 12 hours, to avoid a
total discharge. If the environmental temperature is high, this procedure
has to be continued every 2 months.
7.2 Unpacking of the UPS
Before installation, check carefully the condition of the packaging and the
external appearance. Store the packaging material for future usage.
Remove cartons and other materials of the packaging. Always store the unit
horizontal, not headlong.
Check the delivery slip with the delivery. If delivery is incomplete or if you have
received a wrong delivery, inform immediately your supplier. The standard
packaging is consisting of:

Also check for transport damages. Damages have to be claimed immediately.
Store delivery cartons and packaging materials for checking reasons.
Inform immediately the producer or the supplier.
Inform immediately the forwarder.

8 Installation and connection of the UPS
All instructions for environmental and service conditions have to be complied to
guarantee the perfect function of the UPS.
8.1 Choice of the fitting position
To avoid damages and to increase service life of the UPS you have to choose
a convenient environment for the installation of the unit. Respect the following
instructions:
1. Avoid extreme temperature and humility. With an environmental
temperature of 15 – 25°C the maximum service life can be reached, just
also with regard to the batteries.
2. Always ensure that behind the UPS is enough place to connect the
machines. The underlay must have got a good carrying capacity.
3. Respect the described fitting position. The fitting position can only be
horizontal.

4. Distance between the wall and the back side of the UPS has to be at
least 30 cm.
5. Do not block the air stream of the fan outlets.
6. To avoid overheat and humidity, check the room of installation.
7. Keep dusty, nocuous or saline materials away from the UPS.
8. Pay attention to the complex arrangement. Due to the heat of the UPS
battery bank should always be placed below the UPS. Protect the UPS
system before Fremderwärmung.

8.2 Connection of the UPS
Follow the following instructions and the fig. 5 when connecting the UPS:

Warning
The UPS unit has got components with high voltage and amperage. Incorrect
handling can result in electronic accidents with possible fatal consequences or
damages.
Warning
The PE (protective earthing conductor) must be connected! If not so, the
connected machines are also not grounded.
Warning
The above mentioned fig. 5 is just valid if:
o the loop-resistance until the last connected machine is respected;
o the protective grounding of the connected machines is guaranteed;
o or if the connected machine is protected separately from over current or
error current and additionally grounded;
If the UPS is in a emergency power-off mode, you have to ensure that in case of
activation, the UPS output is not without current. The connected machines will
be supplied during the autonomy time.
8.3 Communicational connection of the UPS
A comfortable communicational connection is available for data exchange with
the UPS.
The RS232 interface allows remote control of the system via the delivery
included software.
Optionally interface cards as R2E (2. RS232 plus EPO), RSE (RS485 plus
EPO), USE (USB plus EPO), DCE (relay interface plus EPO) as well as
SNMP-cards can be used according to the instruction.
The interface-cards R2E, RSE and USE cannot be used at the same time.
The delivery included software-control compatible with the operating systems
Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT and XP. For other systems as Novell, NetWare,
Unix, Linux contact your local supplier.
If the optional interface-cards with integrated RS232 interface are used for
communication, the RS232 interface achieves for the control-commands the
highest priority, then the switch-off command with the DCE-card and also the
EPO signals, then the SNMP/WEB-card, then the R2E, RSE and the USE
achieve the lowest priority.

Follow those instructions for the installation of the hardware.
o Take the cover away of the slot.
o Move the chosen interface-card into the slot.
o Fix the chosen interface-card correctly.
8.4 Connecting the rackmount UPS with the battery
The UPS and the Battery safely switched off beforehand.
Please, only the provided battery cables use.

8.5 Connection order
Connect the UPS with the supplying or bypass circuit, but the circuits and the
UPS have to be switched-off during this procedure.
Connect your periphery with the UPS. Assure that all connected machines are
switched-off.

9 Handling of your UPS-system
The service of this system is characterized by several service types and
indications.
9.1 Setting-up in the normal mode
1. Open the cover of the terminal block at the back side. Before
installation, ensure that protective grounding is correct.
2. Assure that the automatic breaker of the main supply of the UPS and
the circuit breaker of the bypass supply is switched-off (0-position).
3. Assure that voltage of supply conforms to the input voltage window of
the UPS.
4. Connect the main and bypass supply with the unit. Switch the automatic
breakers (of the current distribution and of the UPS) on. The green
LEDs und glow and indicate that the supplying and bypass input

battery pack is starting to load.

9. The setting-up operation of the UPS is finished now. Ensure that the
UPS is at least 8 hours connected with the power supply, until full
charge of the batteries.
9.2 Setting-up in the battery mode (cold starting)
1. Ensure that the UPS that you have installed has got more that 1 set (20
pieces) 12 V/ 7 AH batteries.
2. Push the switch-on button of the UPS for about 3 seconds to activate
the UPS. The buzzer resounds then two times. The LCD-display
indicates drawing A until drawing G and remains for about 10 seconds
activated.
3. Push the switch-on button of the UPS again for about 3 seconds until
the LCD-display indicates drawing G until drawing H. Now the UPS is in
self-mode. The UPS can supply the output within 1 minute with energy
and the LCD-display shows drawing I. If the switch-on button of the UPS
is not pushed within 10 seconds, the UPS will cut off automatically. Then
you have to repeat step 1 until 3.

(drawing R1) or self-test off (drawing R2, UPS makes the battery test
within 10 seconds. When the self-test was successful it indicates
drawing E1, if not it indicates drawing E2 and error message).

9.5 UPS presets and their possibilities
1. Ensure, that the UPS is not yet switched-on „Ein“.
Push the switch-on button and scroll with button
for about 3 seconds down, the buzzer resounds two times, the LCD-
display indicates drawing Q1, the UPS is now in installation mode.
2. The rest of the installation possibilities, except of the buzzer (drawing
Q1 and Q2), can be changed by pushing the button to scroll forward.
The drawings S1 and S2 define the tolerance window of the bypass input,
this can be 184 V ~ 260 V or 195 V ~ 260 V.
Drawing T defines the tolerance window of the bypass frequency of the
inverter output; the acceptable values are ±3Hz and ±1Hz.
Drawing U defines the valid inverter output voltage, whose voltage is 200
V, 208 V, 220 V, 230 V or 240 V.
The drawings V1, V2, V3 and V4 define the service modes of the UPS.
Following choices are possible: online-mode, eco-mode (more economical)
and fixed frequency with 50Hz or 60Hz output.
Drawing W defines the installation of the inverter output, which can be
calibrated as follows:0%, +1%, -1%, +2%, -2%, +3% or -3%.
drawing X defines a fix address and position of the UPS, when it is in
parallel mode. Adjustable values from 1 up to 4.
drawing Y defines the total sum of the UPS-systems in parallel service.
Adjustable values are possible from 1 up to 4.
3. If all changes of the basic setting have been made, you have to push
to be able to store them (drawing Z). Then the LCD-display indicates
drawing AA. If you do not want to change this setting, you can push the
button off „AUS” for 5 seconds, afterwards the LCD-display changes
directly over to drawing AA. This means, that the change of the settings
have been canceled.

4. Switch the automatic breaker of the supplying input off.
5. Your settings are finished.
9.6 UPS is switched-off due to unknown reasons - troubleshooting
1. If a failure occurs, the UPS locks itself into out „AUS“position, as in
drawing AA and the LCD-display will indicate an error message.
2. To unlock the UPS, proceed as follows:
Check recorded error messages.
Solve the problem of the UPS. Otherwise contact your local supplier.
Push the button for 5 seconds. The buzzer resounds two times.
Switch the automatic breaker of the supplying input off.
The UPS is now unlocked, but you should contact your local supplier to
assure that the indicated error message is solved.
9.7 Switch-off
1. Push for about 5 seconds the button off „AUS“ , the inverter output
will be switched-off, the output load will be supplied by the bypass and
the LCD-display indicates drawing B.
2. Switch-off the automatic breaker of the utility and bypass input.
3. Now the UPS is completely switched-off.
9.8 Maintenance bypass-mode
This mode enables an uninterrupted maintenance of the UPS. During change
over to bypass-mode the connected load is not protected from blackouts.
To change over to bypass-mode, respect the following instructions.

Before starting this procedure, you should store all data. Also inform all involved
users.
!! Attention!!
An incorrect changeover of the bypass-switch can cause damage of the UPS or
of the connected machines. The change over instructions has to be respected in
the right sequence.
To change over to bypass-mode, respect the following instructions:
1. Push for about 5 seconds the off button „AUS“ , the LCD-display will
indicate drawing B and the UPS output is in bypass mode.
2. First release the CAM switch (maintenance bypass switch), then switch
the CAM into bypass mode „Bypassmodus“, then the LCD-display will
indicate on the top right corner this sign .
3. Switch-off the automatic breaker of the main supply of the UPS and the
automatic breaker of the bypass supply. Now you can start
maintenance.
It is necessary to start with step no. 1 and then step no. 2. If you forget step 1,
the UPS will make a warning and indicate an error message. Thins warning
can damage the UPS due to an unsafe supplying state. The UPS will
changeover immediately to inverter mode if you switch the CAM back to „INV“.
To changeover from bypass mode to UPS mode, you have to proceed as
follows:
4. Ensure that the UPS is connected correctly (see chapter 9.1)
5. Switch-on the automatic breaker for the bypass and main supply. The
UPS starts-up until drawing B (the unit remains internally in bypass
service). If the display does not indicate this, you have to check the
connections and the function.
6. Switch the CAM back to „INV“ mode and fix the cover again.
7. Afterwards make the set-up as described in chapter 9.1. up to point 5.
Then the UPS will work in inverter mode again.

10 Troubleshooting
Just authorized persons are allowed to do troubleshooting at the UPS.
10.1 Troubleshooting
If failures occur during the UPS service, you can check the following points:
1. Is the connection of input and output correctly?
2. Is the input voltage within the input tolerance window of the UPS?
If there are still problems, follow the below mentioned schedule. If you can not
solve the problem, contact your local supplier.

Notice:
1. The UPS switches-off its inverters and locks automatically into normal
service mode, if those failure codes for example occur Er06, Er07, Er13,
Er14, Er23, Er24, Er26, Er28, Er29. If the bypass voltage is normal, the
UPS switches over to bypass supply, if not the UPS stops the output
load.
2. If other failure codes occur and the bypass voltage is normal, the UPS
switches automatically over into bypass. The UPS tries 4 times per hour
to changeover to the inverter mode. If changeover to the inverter mode
fails or the same failure occurs 4 times per hour, the UPS switches-off
its inverter and blocks automatically. The several error messages and
counting times will be completely canceled, if the UPS switches over to
inverter mode and the error messages are more than one hour ago.

11 Software
Installations and service conditions of the UPS can be detected and handled
by an adequate software package. The software packages are available over
the producer / supplier or over the mentioned service-hotline (chapter
„Service“). There you get necessary information about adequate software
packages with regard to your application and UPS. Also see our website:

12 Maintenance and service
It can be seen as fact that the UPS has got a long service life and an
undisturbed function, with regard to a minimum maintenance. But the liability of
the UPS depends of the environmental conditions. Temperature and humidity
in the environment of the UPS have to be within the indicated limit.
Furthermore the area around the UPS should be clean and not very dusty. The
typical life service of the batteries is about 4 years, when the environmental
temperature is 22°C. Using special batteries, the life service can be increased
significant (about 8-10 years).
Please check regularly (6-12 months) that the rested autonomy time is
sufficient. If it is not, the batteries have to be exchanged.
12.1 Measurement of the autonomy time
Before starting this procedure, you should store all data. Also inform all involved
users.
There are two methods to measure the autonomy time. Method a) is suited for
the measurement of the real autonomy time, whereas at the end of the
autonomy time the user loads will be currentless.
Method b) enables to detect the rested capacity after a defined autonomy
period. During this method the user loads generally will not be currentless.
To employ one of those methods, you have to force the UPS into autonomy
time by switching-off the automatic breaker of the UPS.
After measurement switch the automatic breaker on and start up the UPS as
usually.
Notice that after measurement the batteries of the unit are unloaded. Therefore
the UPS has to be in power supply or loading operation (min. 5 h), before it is
serviceable to 80 %.
If measurement is not possible, due to local conditions or directives, we
suggest exchanging the batteries prophylactically every 2 years, to avoid the
risk of a not sufficient autonomy time because of low batteries.
12.2 Exchange of the batteries
Before starting this procedure, respect the mentioned security advices. Proceed
in the indicated sequence. Just use isolated hand tools. Before starting, assure
that the UPS is switched-off and disconnected to the mains supply.

Just specialized staff is allowed to do works on the battery pack. This staff must
have professional experience with regard to batteries.
Notice that there is still high voltage after disconnection, for example voltage in
the battery pack, loading voltage of net capacitors. Precaution regarding to
electric shocks have to be respected.
Because of the above mentioned dangers, there is no need to explain more for
the exchange of batteries.
