1. IMPORTANT REMARK
Congratulations! You are the owner of a carefully designed and manufactured equipment. We thank you for trusting in us and choosing our PHILOS Series loudspeaker cabinets. In order to get the optimum operation and efficiency from this unit, it is VERY IMPORTANT - before you plug anything - to read this manual very carefully and bear in mind all considerations specified within it. We strongly recommend that its maintenance be carried out by our Authorised Technical services.
2. WARNINGS
No user serviceable parts exist inside these units. Never use this unit in the proximity of water. Do not expose the unit to water
splashing, nor place liquid containers on top of it.
Avoid placing the unit next to heat sources such as spotlights or heaters.
Use only the accessories specified by the manufacturer. The units must never be flown from their transportation handles. Use the correct accessories for each application.
3. INTRODUCTION
These acoustic enclosures have been designed to offer a wide range of applications: Starting with conference rooms where superior intelligibility is required or outdoor installations like mobile discos. These situations require an excellent sound projection, large sound pressure and operating safety.
All models feature a perforated grating, acoustically transparent effectively protecting the loudspeakers. All units feature an effective protection system on the high frequency way against Larsen effect and signal clipping. The connection plates are equipped with speak-on connectors.
4. MODELS
PHILOS 10 It is equipped with a 10" high performance woofer that can cope with large cone displacements. The high frequency way uses a 34mm titanium diaphragm tweeter.
PHILOS 12 It is equipped with a 12" high performance woofer that can cope with large cone displacements. The high frequency way uses a 44mm titanium diaphragm tweeter.
PHILOS 15 It is equipped with a 15" high performance woofer that can cope with large cone displacements. The high frequency way uses a 44mm titanium diaphragm tweeter.
5. CONNECTIONS
The connection cables which connect the amplifiers output and the speaker should be of good quality, have sufficient conductor area and be as short as possible. The latter fact is specially important when the distance is long and the load impedance low (4-8 Ω). A crosssection of at least 2.5mm2 is recommended for distances up to 10m; 4 or 6mm2 for longer distances. Following formula gives the required section, assuming 4% losses: Length in m
Cross section in mm2 =

Loudspeaker Impedance in Ω
Always respect polarity. All connections are Speak-on type. The pin-out is indicated in the diagram.
6. RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER
Following table shows the output power of the amplifier adequate to each acoustic system:
PHILOS 10 between 200 and 400W PHILOS 12 between 250 and 500W PHILOS 15 between 300 and 600W
7. PRE-AMPLIFYING MIXERS
Avoid excessive gain adjustments in the equalizer or tone control sections.
8. PLACEMENT AND MOUNTING
Consider following general rules:
Place the acoustic enclosures on solid and firm surfaces. No obstacles should stand between the enclosures and the audience. The high frequencies are very directive compared to the low frequencies, so that any obstacle will impair their response. In case large audiences must be addressed, a better long distance sound propagation will be achieved if the enclosures are flown high enough.
Two stands are provided with each PHILOS cabinet in order to be installed in one of the sides allowing the speaker cabinets to be used as stage monitors (see drawing)
9. SUSPENDING THE UNIT
The PHILOS series acoustic enclosures may be flown either using the optional SR 12 accessory or by using its 10 rigging points. These rigging points consist of four embedded nuts on the back and six nuts on the top and bottom of the unit.
When using SR12 fixings, an additional safety cable must be attached.
The units must never be flown from their transportation handles.
