SUBJECT: 20-FOOT VACUUM HOSE
ATTACHMENT KIT # 71125
FITS MODELS: SC5540 (70054)
AND SC5614 (71020)
These instructions will describe how to attach the 20-foot vacuum hose to a chipper/shredder. Note that this kit is to be
used only on machines that already have the Two-Speed Blower Kit (PN 71110) installed.
MOUNT LATCHES FOR RUBBER STRAPS
Place the vacuum hose inlet plate over the chipper/shredder hopper so that the hose inlet is on the side near the 1.
chipper chute end.
Locate the position where the strap latches should be bolted by pulling the latch down to the hopper. The strap 2.
should be tight. Push the strap end into the latch and mark the place on the hopper where bolt holes should be
drilled.
Drill two holes 1/4" in diameter in the hopper. 3.
Secure the strap latch to the hopper with two (2) 10/24 x 1/2 inch bolts and nuts.4.
Repeat steps 2-4 for the strap on the other side.5.

OPERATION
Set speed control lever to SLOW.1.
Start engine or engage PTO.2.
Make sure that the vacuum nozzle is pointed in the proper direction.3.
Slowly move the lever to FAST speed setting.4.
Point the nozzle toward the debris that you want to remove; use a sweeping motion to remove debris from a larger 5.
area.
CAUTION
Do not allow the vacuum hose to contact the muffler
exhaust pipe. The heat from the exhaust pipe might
burn the vacuum hose.
OPERATION TIPS
The vacuum is designed to be used with • fairly dry material. If the material is wet or moist, it will cake onto the blower
unit and/or discharge screen similar to wet grass on the bottom of a lawn mower.
Use a slower feed rate• when vacuuming wet material. Regularly feed branches into the chipper while vacuuming wet
material to help reduce plugging. Hold the end of the vacuum off the ground to maintain air movement.
If suction decreases or material discharges unevenly,• cycle dry wood or branches through the chipper chute to help
prevent build up in the blower housing. If the blower housing becomes plugged, the vacuum will lose suction.
To unplug: • Shut the unit down completely. Open the cleanout door and remove debris. Replace door and resume
operation. If the clog is severe, shut off the engine and allow the machine to come to a complete stop. Remove the
blower unit to clear our the housing. Remove the discharge screen and clean the chipper/shredder housing.
The rotor will continue to turn for some time after the engine or tractor has been shut off. • You can shorten the stopping
time by inserting a branch in the chipper chute; the friction will slow the rotor.
