Battery Installation & First Time Setup
Note
Battery Warnings
This scale operates on 1 – 3 volt CR2032 lithium battery (installed). There is a strip under the lithium battery cover to prevent battery drain in shipping. Please remove the strip before continuing with these instructions (you may need to remove the battery compartment cover to avoid breaking the strip). Also, some models have a static cling label on the lens to prevent scratching. Please remove before use. Replace the battery when the scale displays “LO” or readings become dim or irregular. To replace the battery:
1. Use one 3 volt CR2032 lithium battery.
2. Remove screw (or screws) from the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the scale and remove the cover.
3. Remove the old battery from the compartment.
4. Place the new battery with the “+” sign up into the battery compartment.
5. Replace the battery compartment cover and screw(s).
New batteries should last for approximately one year under moderate use (less than three times daily).
NOTE: Please recycle or dispose of batteries per local regulations. WARNING: Batteries may pose a choking hazard. As with all small items, do not
let children handle batteries. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. PRECAUTION: Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or
leak. Remove the batteries if the scale will not be used for a long period of time.

Weighing Operation
Tare Operation
1. Place your scale on a hard, flat surface and press the “ON/TARE” button to turn on.
2. The display will show “-18888” and then switch to “0g” or “0.0 lb oz” depending on measurement unit setting. The scale is now ready for use.
3. This scale has 2 units of measurement: grams and pounds/ounces. To switch the measurement unit, press the “g/lb” button while the scale is turned on.
4. Place the item to be weighed onto the platform. The weight will display. As you add weight, the weight displayed increases.
5. When the weight is removed, the display will return to zero. The scale will turn off automatically after 1 minute. Press and hold the “ON/TARE” button to turn the scale off manually.
You may wish to weigh ingredients in a bowl or other container (not included). In this case, you will need to tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so that only the weight of the ingredients is displayed.
1. Choose a container that will safely balance on the platform without tipping or falling. Do not use a heavy container, as this might reduce the maximum capacity of the scale.
2. Press the “ON/TARE” button and the display will read “0.0 lb oz”. Place the container on the scale and press “ON/TARE” again to reset the scale to “0.0 lb oz”.
3. Add the ingredient to be weighed. The weight of the ingredient alone will display.
4. The weight of additional ingredients may be tared out as well. For example, if a recipe calls for ½ lb rice and ½ lb beans, place the rice into the bowl. Once the correct amount of rice is weighed, press the “ON/TARE” button until the display resets to zero. Add ½ lb of beans. Both ingredients have been accurately weighed in the same bowl. This step can be repeated until the max load capacity (11lb/5000g) has been reached.
5. When weights have been tared out, the display will show a negative number when the items are removed from the scale.
