5Technical description
5.1Function description
All materials used in the refrigerator are compatible for use with medicines and
medicinal products.
The refrigerant circuit is maintenance-free.
The refrigerator is available as freestanding version (FS) and as built-in version (BIU).
The freestanding version is intended for freestanding use. The cooling unit cover
protects the warm parts of the cooling units. The foot frame with ventilation openings
ensure sufficient ventilation. By removing the foot frame and cooling unit cover the
refrigerator can be used as a built-in version.
The built-in version is intended to be mounted into furniture. It doesn‘t have a foot
frame or cooling unit cover.
The digital thermometer shows and stores the minimum and maximum inner
temperatures from the last reset so that you can check whether the medicinal
products have been stored at the appropriate temperatures.

5.4Rechargeable battery
In case the power supply is interrupted, the monitoring functions of the electronics
are maintained by an integrated rechargeable battery for at least 12 hours.
The battery is automatically charged if the device is connected to the mains and
switched on.
At the first starting up of the device the error message “E3” may appear. The
message will disappear as soon as the battery is charged.
If the capacity of the battery is no longer sufficient to take over the monitoring
functions the error message “E3” appears on the display.
NOTICE!
A
The battery should be precautionary replaced every 2 years.
This replacement must be carried out by qualified personnel.
5.5Internal ventilation
The device is fitted with an internal ventilation.
The fan is operating when the door is closed.
NOTICE!
A
To prevent warm outside air from being unnecessarily sucked in, the fan
automatically switches off when the door is opened.
The airflow to the fan must never be impeded by blocking or covering
the ventilation slots.
5.6External alarm function
There are two terminals with two floating contacts on the back of the device that can
be used to trigger an additional external alarm (acoustical or visual).

NOTICE!
A
➤ Connect the plug of the connection cable into the mains.
✓ The green power LED lights up (fig. 2 2, page 4).
➤ Press the button.
✓ The display turns on.
For the first two seconds the display will not show temperature values; it shows
“--.-”. Then the temperature read from the sensor is shown.
•Connect the device to a separate circuit to prevent malfunctioning
due to problems with other electrical equipment. Never connect the
device to a single socket with other electrical equipment by means
of a multi-socket.
•UK only: The refrigerator is supplied with a plug fitted with 3 A fuse.
In case this fuse has to be to changed, a 3 A ASTA approved
(BS 1362) fuse must be used.

6.6Installing an external alarm
Use the floating contacts at the back of the device as follows:
•The upper contacts correspond to the power fail alarm (fig. 9 1 and 2, page 7).
•The lower contacts correspond to the temperature alarm (fig. 9 3 and 4,
page 7).
A voltage between 12 V and 250 V can be connected at the contacts. The maximum
load must not exceed 8 A. The minimum power rating is 100 mA/5 V.
NOTE
I
The external alarm signal can only be switched off by eliminating the
cause of the alarm.
7Using the refrigerator
NOTE
I
•Before starting your new refrigerator for the first time, you should
clean it inside and outside with a damp cloth for hygienic reasons
(please refer to the chapter “Cleaning and maintenance” on
page 25).
•Always leave some space between the medicinal products in the
refrigerator to ensure efficient and even cooling. If the drawers are
packed too tightly there may be unacceptable temperature values.
•Keep these operating instructions ready at hand and leave them with
the device, so that all users can find out about the functions and
safety regulations.
7.1Energy saving tips
•Choose a well ventilated location which is protected from direct sunlight.
•Do not open the refrigerator more often than necessary.
•Do not leave the doors open for longer than necessary.
•Defrost your refrigerator as soon as a layer of ice forms.

7.2Starting up the device
CAUTION!
!
Do not store medicines and medicinal products before the E6 error
code has disappeared and the operating temperature range has been
reached.
NOTE
The temperature values are shown in °C. This cannot be changed.
I
•At the first starting up of the device or after switching it off for a long time the
display of the digital thermometer (fig. 2, page 4) shows the current ambient
temperature alternating with the error message “E6”.
•The alarm LED will light up but no audible alarm will sound.
•As soon as the inner temperature reaches the operating temperature range
(2 °C – 8 °C) the current temperature is shown.
➤ Reset the thermometer to avoid a wrong maximum temperature value.
➤ Press the button for 5 seconds.
7.3Display backlight in battery mode
The thermometer display has a blue backlight to make the temperature values easier
to read. The display backlight works continuously while the device is connected to
the mains.
In battery mode the display backlight will switch off after 2 minutes.
➤ To activate the display backlight for 3 seconds, briefly press the button.
7.4Temperature values
The thermometer stores the values of the minimum and maximum inner temperature
since the last reset.
To reset these values:
➤ Press the button for 5 seconds.

7.6Defrosting the refrigerator
NOTE
I
Humidity can cause frost to form in the interior of the refrigerator or on the vaporiser.
A slight layer of frost or water droplets could form in the interior of the refrigerator if
it has been cooling for longer periods. This is normal because the moisture in the air
condenses to water when the temperature in the refrigerator drops. The refrigerator
is not defective.
The condensate flows out through a water drain duct into a water container at the
back of the device at top of the compressor, where it evaporates.
It is recommended to defrost the refrigerator every three weeks.
In high ambient temperatures, the refrigerator may operate
continuously, which can lead to excessive formation of frost on the rear
wall of the refrigerator compartment.
Proceed as follows:
➤ Switch off the refrigerator: press the button for more than 5 seconds.
➤ Disconnect the refrigerator from the mains.
➤ Remove the drawers (see chapter “Removing the drawers” on page 24).
➤ Leave the door open.
➤ After defrosting wipe out the cabinet interior with a clean, damp cloth.
➤ Assemble the drawers.

7.7Switching off and storing the refrigerator
If you do not intend to use the refrigerator for a long time, proceed as follows:
➤ Switch off the refrigerator: press the button for more than 5 seconds.
➤ Disconnect the refrigerator from the mains.
➤ Clean the refrigerator (see chapter “Cleaning and maintenance” on page 25).
➤ Leave the door slightly open.
This prevents smells from building up.
7.8Removing the drawers
You can remove the drawers, e.g for cleaning.
Proceed as follows (fig. 0, page 8):
➤ Open the door (A).
➤ Pull out the drawer (B).
➤ Push the fixing pins from the outside to the inside (C).
➤ Remove the drawer (D).
➤ Assemble the drawers in reverse order.

8Cleaning and maintenance
WARNING!
!
A
➤ Clean the refrigerator regularly and as soon as it becomes dirty with a damp
cloth.
Always disconnect the refrigerator from the mains before you clean and
service it.
NOTICE!
•Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or hard objects during cleaning
as these can damage the refrigerator.
•Never use hard or sharp tools to remove ice or to free objects frozen
onto the device.
•Do not use any mechanical tools or any other tools to speed up the
defrosting process.
➤ Make sure that no water drips into the seals. This can damage the electronics.
➤ Wipe the refrigerator dry with a cloth after cleaning.
➤ Check the condensate drain regularly.
Clean the condensate drain when necessary. If it is blocked the condensate
collects on the bottom of the refrigerator.
➤ Clean the door seals regularly.
➤ Freestanding version: Clean the grid of the condenser and the compressor on
the back of the device with a vacuum cleaner regularly.
