1. General warning

1.1 Please read before using this manual
This manual is part of t he product and should be kept near the i nstrument for easy and
quick reference.
The inst rument shall not be used for purposes dif ferent from thos e described hereunder. It
cannot be used as a safety devic e.
Check the application li mits before proceeding.
1.2
Check the supply voltage is correct before connecting the instrument.
Do not expose to water or moisture: use the controller only within the operating limits
avoiding sudden temperature changes with high atm ospheric hum idity to prevent formati on of condensation
Warning: disconnect all electrical c onnections before any kind of mai nt enance.
The instrument must not be opened.
In case of failure or faulty operation send the instrument back to the distributor or to
“DIXELL s.r.l.” (see address) with a det ai l ed description of the fault.
Consider the maximum current which can be applied to each relay (see Techni c al Data).
Ensure that the wires for probes, loads and the power supply are s eparated and f ar enough
from each other, without c ros sing or intertwining.
Fit the probe where it is not acces sible by the end user.
In case of applications in industrial environments, t he use of m ains f ilters (our mod. FT1) in
parallel with inductive loads coul d be useful.
Safety Precautions

2. General description

The XC440C is designed to manage compressors or fans in a c ondensing system such as a pack. The compressors can be s i mple, multist age or with di fferent capacities. Control is by means of a neutral zone or proportional band and is based on the pres sure or temperature sensed in the LP suction (compressors) or HP (condenser) circuits. A special algorithm balances the run hours of the compressors to distribute the work load uniformly. The controllers can convert pres sure and display it as temperat ure. The front panel offers com plete information on the system’ s status by displaying the suction and condenser pressure (temperatures), the status of the loads, possible alarms or maintenance conditions. Each load has its own alarm input that is able to stop it when act i vat ed. By means of the HOT KEY the controller can be eas y programmed at power on. The controller can be connected to the XJ500, controlling and monitoring system , thank s to the serial TTL output, using the standard ModBus RTU protocol.

13. Type of regulation

13.1 Dead band – Only for compressors

This kind of regulation is available onl y for c om press ors. The neut ral zone (Pbd) is s ym m etric al compared to the target set point, with extremes: set+Pbd/2 ... set-Pbd/2. If the pressure (temperature) is inside this zone the controller maintains the same number of l oads switched on and off, without changing anything. When the pressure (temperature) go out from the zone, regul ation starts. If the pres sure is greater than SET+Pbd/2, the l oads are switching on with tim ing given by param eters: don and doF. A load is turned on only if the his safety times Regulation stops when the pressure (temperature) come back int o the neutral zone.
In the following a simpli fy exemplum that explains the regulation i n neut ral zone f or c om pres sor homogeneous with 1 step for each c ompressors. The safety ti mes onon, oFon and donF are not considered. In the real regulation the a load is entered or turned off only if t hese times are over.
Ex. Dead band control, compressors with same capacities, 1 step for each com p ressor. In this example:
oA1 = cPr; oA2 = cPr; oA3 = cPr; oA4 =nu; CtyP = SPo rty = db Sty = yES FdLy = no dLF = no

13.2 Proportional Band – for compressors or fans

The regulation band (Pbd) is divided into as many parts as there are stages according to the following formula:
# step = oAi = CPr or StP (number of compressors or steps).
The numbers of stages s witched ON is proportional to the value of the input signal: when thi s distances itself from the target set point and enters the various bands, the com pressors are switched ON, to be then turned OFF when the signal bri ngs near the set point.
In this way if the pressure is greater than regulation band, all the compress ors are on, if the pressure (temperature) is l ower than t he regul ation band all the compressors are off. Naturally also for this regulat ions all the delays (don and doF) saf ety times (onon, oFon and donF) are valid.
Regulation according to the running hours
The algorithm switch on and off the loads according to the runni ng hours of each load. In this way the running hours are balanced.
Example
oA1 = cPr; oA2 = cPr; oA3 = cPr; oA4 = cPr: 4 CtyP = SPo rty = Pb Sty = yES FdLy = no dLF= no

The instruments are suitabl e only for internal us e. Instrum ents shal l be mounted on panel, in a 29x71 mm hole, and fixed using the special brackets supplied. To obtain an IP65 protection grade use the front panel rubber gask et (mod. RG-C) as shown in figure. The ambient operating temperature range is between 0÷60°C. Avoid locations subject to heavy vibration, corrosive gas es or excessive dirt . The same appli es to the probes. Ensure ventil at i on around the instrument.

All models can be int egrated into the m onitoring and al arm s ystem XJ500 using t he TTL seri al port. They use the standard ModBus RTU prot ocol, s o they c an be fitt ed in a sys tem integrat or using this protocol.
The controller has 2 serial addresses first one Ad1 for compressor section, second one Ad2 for fan section. To completely monitor both sections the values of the 2 addresses have to be different. If the Ad2 parameters have the same value the status of the fans is not monitored.
