LOCATING THE FIREPLACE HEATER
Plan where to locate and frame the fireplace heater. This will
save time and money later when you install the fireplace. Before
installation consider the following:
1. Where the firebox is located must allow for wall and ceiling
clearances (see Installation Clearances).
2. Consider a location where the appliance screen will not be
exposed to direct sunlight from windows or doors.
3. A 15 ampere, 120 Volt, 60 Hz branch circuit with proper
ground must be available at the location. Preferably a
dedicated branch circuit should be provided to avoid circuit
breakers to trip or fuses to blow.
Flush installations are recommended where living space is
limited or at a premium. Since the space required to enclose the
appliance would be located beyond an outside wall, this
installation would require additional planning and construction.
Check local codes for any restrictions.
Projected installations can extend any distance into the
room. A projection may be ideal for a new addition on an
existing, finished wall.
Corner installations make use of space that may not normally
be used and provides wider and more efficient heat distribution.
Internal wall installations provide a discreet option for room
separation and can also be an ideal addition to an existing wall.

HEARTH DIMENSIONS
Although not mandatory, a hearth extension is suggested for
aesthetic purposes. The appliance may be raised on a wood or
non-combustible platform supporting its entire width and depth
and extending in front of the appliance as long as the louvers are
not obstructed.
NOTE: In cold climates, when installing the appliance against a
non-insulated exterior wall, outer wall must be fully insulated in
accordance with local building code.
FRAMING DIMENSIONS
Built-in installations require a framed-in enclosure constructed of
2 x 4 or heavier lumber and sized in accordance with Figure 5.
This allows the unit to slide into the opening and be nailed to the
stud space at the sides and top nailing flanges. These flanges
accept 5/8” drywall or plywood board to finish the unit flush to
the face. Optional trim accessories are available that will extend
½” over rough edge of the wall opening (see Accessories, page

PRODUCT FEATURES AND CONTROL OPERATION
Models (V)E36/32L series electronic fireplaces feature a random flame
effect, and realistic log bed with glistening embers that can be adjusted for
flame speed and light intensity.
Models (V)E36/32LH have an added circulating heater, rated at 1100 W.
In addition to a heater, the models E36/32LB and E36/32LBH include a
hand detailed, textured red-brick lining (Models VE36/32LB and VE36/32LBH come standard with natural white brick).
The controls can be accessed by pulling on the top outer edges of the
uppermost louver until the panel releases from the magnetic catches on each
side and swings down to the open position. See Figure 11.
Figure 12 shows the control layout for heater equipped models with the
main power switch to the flame controls and the heater power switch (when
equipped) to the heating unit. This allows independent and efficient
operation of both features.
Once main power is turned on, flame speed and brightness may be turned
on and adjusted independently.
A slow flame speed creates a soothing appearance of a romantic fire while a
high flame speed invites the presence of a warm roaring fire.
The flame brightness may be adjusted to accommodate a particular mood or
lighting situation within the room.
Models E36L, E32L, VE36L and VE32L may accept bi-fold glass
doors that are fully operable or a fixed panel door that limit access

11. If replacing the top, reflective ribbons on the base cover, cut a 3
inch section of ribbon and split down the middle. Then with the
shiny side up, attach with cellophane tape onto the rear edge of
the base cover opening. See Figure 40.
12. Readjust the flame pennants (if removed). See Servicing Flame Pennants, page 17.
13. Reassemble the imager. See Accessing Imaging Unit, page 15.
14. Replace log set and lava rock, See Hearth Assembly, page 6.
Cleaning Viewing Screen
Clean the viewing screen with an alcohol based, non-abrasive,
residue free cleaner (pre-moistened hand wipe are ideal). Do not
use glass cleaners with ammonium, abrasive scrubs or degreaser
solvents of any kind.
The imaging unit can be removed from inside the firebox for
servicing as follows:
1. Remove 4 Hex screws on the lower louver panel and detach the
louver assembly from the front face. See Figure 41, page 18.
2. Rotate the top edge of lower frame rail inward and lift upward
until locking tabs detach from the front face (see Figure 42).
3. Slide the entire imaging forward and lift out through the front
opening (see Figure 43).
Note: An additional 3 feet of harness is tucked behind the imager
to permit removal without disconnecting any control wiring.
Note: If full replacement of the imager is necessary, the wiring
harnesses must be disconnected and the new harnesses reconnected
at the control panel. For proper connection, follow the wiring
diagram show in Figure 28, on page 12.
