LOCATING THE FIREPLACE HEATER
Plan where to locate and frame the fireplace heater. This will save time and money later when you install the fireplace. Before installation consider the following:
1. Where the firebox is located must allow for wall and ceiling
clearances (see Installation Clearances).
2. Consider a location where the appliance screen will not be exposed to direct sunlight from windows or doors.
3. A 15 ampere, 120 Volt, 60 Hz branch circuit with proper ground must be available at the location. Preferably a dedicated branch circuit should be provided to avoid circuit breakers to trip or fuses to blow.
Flush installations are recommended where living space is
limited or at a premium. Since the space required to enclose the appliance would be located beyond an outside wall, this installation would require additional planning and construction. Check local codes for any restrictions.
Projected installations can extend any distance into the
room. A projection may be ideal for a new addition on an existing, finished wall.
Corner installations make use of space that may not normally
be used and provides wider and more efficient heat distribution.
Internal wall installations provide a discreet option for room
separation and can also be an ideal addition to an existing wall.

HEARTH DIMENSIONS
Although not mandatory, a hearth extension is suggested for aesthetic purposes. The appliance may be raised on a wood or non-combustible platform supporting its entire width and depth and extending in front of the appliance as long as the louvers are not obstructed.
NOTE: In cold climates, when installing the appliance against a
non-insulated exterior wall, outer wall must be fully insulated in accordance with local building code.
FRAMING DIMENSIONS
Built-in installations require a framed-in enclosure constructed of 2 x 4 or heavier lumber and sized in accordance with Figure 5. This allows the unit to slide into the opening and be nailed to the stud space at the sides and top nailing flanges. These flanges accept 5/8” drywall or plywood board to finish the unit flush to the face. Optional trim accessories are available that will extend
½” over rough edge of the wall opening (see Accessories, page
21).
IMPORTANT: If installing a perimeter trim kit, you must install
shoulder screws before inserting firebox into opening. See instructions included with the trim kit. If installing a mantel above the firebox, you must follow clearance instructions (see
Installation Clearances, page 3).

HEARTH ASSEMBLY
Before operating the appliance the lamp bulbs must be inspected and lava rock treatments, if desired, may be added as follows:
1. Lift the log bed off the hearth base to gain access to the lamp fixtures, (the log bed is attached with contact magnets only).
2. Turn the power on to the light circuit and check that all bulbs are operating. The Red bulb is placed in the left most fixture and the Yellow
and Orange follow in that order. See Figure 10.
NOTE: If any bulbs need replacing, see Replacing Light Bulbs, page 13. Be
careful not to tear or damage the reflective strips. If they have come loose, the ends can be easily reattached or replaced at the support brackets. See -
Replacing Reflecting Ribbons, page 18.
4. Center the log bed over the opening and in between the screen and grate.
5. Cover the remaining hearth area with a ¼” layer of lava rock provided.
PRODUCT FEATURES AND CONTROL OPERATION
Models (V)E36/32L series electronic fireplaces feature a random flame
effect, and realistic log bed with glistening embers that can be adjusted for flame speed and light intensity.
Models (V)E36/32LH have an added circulating heater, rated at 1100 W. In addition to a heater, the models E36/32LB and E36/32LBH include a
hand detailed, textured red-brick lining (Models VE36/32LB and VE36/32LBH come standard with natural white brick).
The controls can be accessed by pulling on the top outer edges of the uppermost louver until the panel releases from the magnetic catches on each
side and swings down to the open position. See Figure 11. Figure 12 shows the control layout for heater equipped models with the
main power switch to the flame controls and the heater power switch (when equipped) to the heating unit. This allows independent and efficient operation of both features.
Once main power is turned on, flame speed and brightness may be turned on and adjusted independently.
A slow flame speed creates a soothing appearance of a romantic fire while a high flame speed invites the presence of a warm roaring fire.
The flame brightness may be adjusted to accommodate a particular mood or lighting situation within the room.

Replacing Light Bulbs
There are (3) colored lamps rated at 120V, 100 Watts, for use in a medium sized socket. These bulbs are located under the log bed and can be replaced as follows:
1. If you are unsure which bulb need replacement, defective bulbs may be visually located as any of 3 bulbs colored – Red,
Yellow and Orange starting from the left (see Figure 10, page
6). Defective bulbs can be replaced individually or for
convenience you may want to replace all the light bulbs even if only one is defective.
2. Disconnect power to the unit at the main breaker or fuse panel.
3. Lift the log bed off the hearth base to gain access to the lamp fixtures; log bed is attached with contact magnets only.
4. Remove each defective bulb from its socket, and replace with the appropriate color and size bulb.
NOTE: be careful not to tear or damage the reflective ribbon. If
they have come loose, they can be easily reattached or replaced at
the support brackets. See – Replacing Reflective Ribbons, page 18.
5. Return power to the circuit and turn main power switch and lamp power on to check the operation of the bulbs before replacing the log set.
6. If all the bulbs are working properly replace the log bed over the center opening in between the rear screen and front grate.
Maintaining Motors
Motors used on the fan and heater assembly are permanently lubricated do not require lubrication. Annual cleaning and/or
vacuuming around the heater and fan unit is recommended.
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance or cleaning to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or personal injury.
Any electrical repairs or rewiring of this unit should be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with national and local codes.
Do not exceed 100 Watts per bulb when replacing bulbs. Use of higher-rated bulbs may result in fire, causing property dama
ersonal injury, or loss of life.
Make sure the power is turned off at the supply prior to disassembling this unit.
