 QK11-U USB Driver Installation
This scanner can communicate with PC via the USB-COM interface. Install the USB device driver contained in the provided CD-ROM for communications via USB-COM interface: You can also download the newest version of this driver from DENSO WAVE website:
http://www.denso-wave.com/
The downloaded, compressed file contains the driver and uninstaller. Store the file in the desired folder, and double-click the file icon: The file can then be self-extracted. Connect the scanner interface cable to the USB port of PC: “Add New Hardware Wizard” will automatically start. Set up the USB device driver according to the wizard screen. The next and subsequent pages will show the procedures for setting up the driver on each OS: Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 or XP.
Cautions when connecting USB cable
It will take five to ten seconds for PC to recognize USB-COM device:
Therefore, wait for ten seconds or more to disconnect or connect USB-COM connector again after the connector is connected or disconnected.
USB connector can be connected or disconnected even when the power of PC is ON.
However, do not connect or disconnect USB connector when PC is in the standby (suspended) mode.
Do not connect or disconnect any other USB devices while processing connection of
our USB device.
If USB cable is disconnected during communication, not only will data be lost but the
system may be affected. Therefore, do not disconnect USB cable during communication.
Directly connect QK11-U to USB port of PC or self-power hub. If it cannot be
connected to hub (depending on type of hub) and operation is not stable, connect it directly to USB port of PC.
Cautions when installing USB device driver
If the DENSO WAVE USB-COM driver has not yet been installed, do not connect

 Setting initial conditions
Although the communication conditions and specifications of codes to be read have
been set at the factory, they can be modified using the QR-coded parameter menu.
Notes: (1) Check “4. Parameters and Defaults” and “5. QR-coded parameter menu” for
details on QR-coded parameter menu.
(2) The contents set using QR-coded parameter menu will be stored in memory of
scanner even if power is turned off.
 Cautions for connections
Cautions
Make some allowance for scanner cable.
Do not leave the scanner cable on the floor.
Do not step on the cable or let it get caught on anything so that it gets scratched.
Be sure to hold the connector securely when plugging in and unplugging the
USB cable.
 Cautions for installation
Caution Remarks Do not install the scanner in a place that is exposed to direct sunlight or near a heater. Do not install it where the temperature and humidity are high, such as in greenhouse, or where the temperature is extremely low, such as in a refrigerator.
The circuits and optical components in scanner can be damaged in an environment where the temperature is extremely high or low, or the humidity is very high.
Do not install where water may be splashed.
Water entering the scanner could
cause fault. It is recommended that you firmly secure the scanner or cable on a table where the scanner is set up, to prevent it from falling off the table. Bundle the surplus cable so that the scanner does not fall when the cable gets caught on something.
If the scanner falls, its appearance
may be damaged or it may
malfunction.
Do not install near a device that generates high frequencies.
High frequencies could cause the
scanner to malfunction. Set up the scanner so that no sunlight or strong light from some lighting device, etc. enters the scanning window.
If the sunlight or strong light from
some lighting device, etc. enters the
scanning window, reading may be
impossible.

Chapter 2. How to read
Scanning Codes
Turn power on: The QK11-U will be ready for scanning. In this status, bring the LCD of a mobile phone near the scanning window as shown in the figure below. The QK11-U will read codes, output the data, sound buzzer and cause the OK LED to light.
Reading may be impossible depending on the mobile phone model, setting status of
contrast and backlight, or the condition of LCD surface (pasting of seal, scratches, etc.).
By command control, QK11-U is ready for scanning, it can change into a standby state or a reading code can be set up. Please refer to 3. Communications about the method of command control.
Re-read prevention
The QK11-U supports the re-read prevention function, so that if a code fits on the scanning window, it will not read the same code multiple times in succession. Therefore, if you want the QK11-U to read the same code again, separate the code from the scanning window for at least one second to release the re-read prevention function. However, if you fit a low-quality code that cannot be read for more than one second on the window, the QK11-U can re-read the code at an interval of one second or more.

Chapter 5 QR-coded Parameter Menu
The QR-coded parameter menu allows you to change a variety of functions built in the QK11-U according to the procedure below.
Parameter change procedure
(1) Make the QK11-U ready for scan. (2) Scan the "Start setting" code in the menu control shown on the next page. (3) Scan a QR code(s) of the parameter(s) you want to set. (4) Scan the "End setting" code in the menu control.
This stores new settings in the memory and completes the parameter change procedure. The QK11-U will become ready to scan. If you turn off the power, those new settings will be retained.
NOTE: If you turn off the power without scanning the "End setting" code, new
settings you made will be canceled.
To restore factory defaults, scan the "Defaults" code in the menu control.
To cancel the parameter change procedure, scan the "Cancel" code.
