Note −
The BHT is equi pped with a backup battery to backup the internal memory and calendar
in case the battery is removed or the battery voltage falls below the stipulated level.
It is therefore necessary to charge the internal backup battery when using the BHT
time or when left unused for long periods of time.
The backup battery is charged automatically when a fully-charged battery is loaded.
To ensure that the backup battery is fully charged, do not remove the battery
when using the BHT for the first time or when using it after long periods of time.
Refer to Chapter 6, 6.3Using the BHT after Long Periods for the details of handling the
after long periods of time.
Avoid storing the battery in high-temperature locations. The battery capacity may decrease. Do not touch the BHT, battery, or charger terminals by hand or stain them.
Failure to follow instruction may result in a BHT malfunction or battery charging failure.
It is recommended that any dirt on the battery terminals or BHT batter y terminals be
wiped off with a soft, dry cloth.

2.2.3 Battery Voltage Drop
The message on the right shows up f or approximately 2 seconds and the beeper
sounds three times when the battery voltage drops to a level that requires charging
or battery replacement.
The message and beeper are briefly indicated to alert you only once when a key is
pressed or the touch screen is tapped while using the BHT. Then the BHT returns to
normal operation. Replace or charge the battery promptly.
If the BHT is left without charging the battery, the BHT may perform full-reset
automatically and data including files and settings stored in the RAM may be lost.
If the BHT is used without charging or replacing the battery after the above
message is shown, the battery voltage drops to a level that stops the BHT operation.
Then the screen on the right shows up, the beeper sounds five times, and the power
automatically turns OFF. (Depending on the battery level, this message may not
show up or the beeper may not sound five times.)
Replace or charge the battery immediately when this message shows up.
If the BHT is left without charging the battery, the BHT may perform full-reset
automatically and data including files and settings stored in the RAM may be lost.

To open the barcode menu, double tap the “Scanner” icon in the System
Properties.
INVERT: Enables or disables inverted barcodes to be read.
DECODE LEVEL: Selects the decode level.
ITF: Selects the minimum number of digits for ITF.
STF: Selects the minimum number of digits for STF.
CODABAR: Selects the minimum number of digits for
CODABAR.
Read Parameter: Launch the menu for barcode reading parameter
Inverted barcodes are white bars on black backgrounds,
standard barcodes are black bars on white backgrounds.
Set either “ON” for enabling inverted barcodes to be read or “OFF” for disabling inverted barcodes to be
read. Default is set to “OFF”.
DECODE LEVEL
The decode level can be set from 1 to 9.
The default level is set to 4.
Lowering the level increases the barcode reading efficiency, however, misreading probability of
poor-quality barcodes (broken or dirty bars) also increases.
Raising the level decreases the barcode reading efficiency, and also decreases misreading probability of
poor-quality barcodes.
Select only the required level to reduce the misreading probability.
ITF, STF and CODABAR
The minimum number of digits to be read for ITF, STF and CODABAR can be changed.
Setting smaller numbers for each code increases probability of missing digits or misreading, depending on
various factors such as barcode reading conditions and barcode quality.
Setting larger numbers for each code decreases probability of missing digits or misreading.
Select only the required number to reduce the probability of missing digits or misreading.

REVERSE (Mirror image 2D code reading function)
Mirror image 2D code is a code viewed from a reversed side of a 2D code.
Mirror image 2D code can be read by setting the “REVERSE” to “ON”.
The default is set to “OFF”.

Note
Setting to “Always ON” increases the power consumption, and may shorten the operation
time as compared to the other two settings.
Changing the settings is not recommended unless necessary.

The light mode can be set.
0: AUTO (default)
1: Always ON
2: Always OFF
SCAN MODE
Select the scan mode either “NORMAL” or “POINT”.
NORMAL: Normal read mode (default)
POINT: Point Scan mode
The point scan mode is used to read a code by aiming at the center cross section of the leaser light
marker. The laser light marker is used to indicate the barcode reading position.
A code cannot be read in the point scan mode, if there is no code within the cross section, or if
unable to detect the marker due to external light, and so on.
The point scan mode can be used only when the laser light marker is enabled and the normal read
mode is selected.
MARKER
The “MARKER” is used to set whether the laser light marker illuminates or not, when a trigger key is
pressed.
0: Normal
The laser light marker illuminates during barcode reading. (default)
1: Always ON
The laser light marker illuminates during barcode reading, and stays illuminated for the first 30
seconds until the barcode is read.
2: Always OFF
The laser light marker never illuminates.
