RAIDCFG

When creating virtual disks, th e chunk ( stripe) size is al ways in K Bs. Do no t specify any unit s of mea sure for the
chunk size.
•
When providing multiple physical disks for the "create virtual disk" command, do not sepa rat e the d isks with sp aces .
For example, "-ad =1:4, 1: 5" causes an error. T he corr ect way to display mu ltiple ph ysical di sks is "-ad=1:4,1:5,1:6."

If you change the controll er mode fr om SCS I mode to RAID m ode, data lo ss may occur. Back up any data yo u

•
If you delete a virtual disk o n PERC 4I/M on Windows PE, yo u need to r eboot the system f or the c hanges t o take
effect.
•
You cannot delete a virtual dis k on C ERC S ATA 2S wh en RA ID 1 i s cre ated with t he "--clear " opt ion. T he v irtua l disk
can be cleared from the controller BIOS.
•
Perform copy operations us ing the "XCO PY" co mmand, becaus e the DOS " COPY" co mmand m ay fail when co pying

You can assign up to 10 Global Hot spares us ing Raidcfg . Use T he Dell Op enManag e Server A dminist rator S torage

•
SW RAID controllers S100 and S30 0 will not be detect ed in the Micr osoft W indows S erver 20 03 with SP1 (32-bit).
•
DTK does not support Non RAID (Volume) mode on S100/S300 controller.

S300 controller Cachepoli cy setting is "Not Applica ble". Henc e VD cre ated wit h different c ache policy setti ngs fro m

SYSCFG Issues
•In DRAC 5, the --virtualmedia and --vflash options do not work if there is an active virtual m e d ia
session. Disconnect the virtual media using the DRAC GUI. Log into DRAC. Click Media > Virtual
Media > Disconnect.
• The syscfg --bootseq command detects CD-ROM with SAS/SATA controllers as unk.emb.1.
• On R815, syscfg power --profil e op tion allows to set to apc, though apc is not supported on R815.
syscfg does not throw an error message.
•On Windows PE 3.0, when you run the syscfg command to list all availabl e op tions, if you press
CTR + C before the command fully e xecutes, an error message is displayed. Click OK. You can
ignore the message.
• The option for "powerctl," which is "softshutdown," does not work on Windows PE.
• The "--solbitrate" option in "solcfgparams" and the "--mgscommbitrate" option in "serialcfgparams"
accept a baud rate of 57600, but tools such as "ipmish" and "solproxy" do not function at that baud
rate for PowerEdge systems.
•The legacy attribute values enable/disable are also supported for 12G systems for backward
compatibility. In future releases, these arguments might be deprecated. Try to use the values
shown in help message for BIOS options for 12G server.
RACADM Issues
•If you use virtual media to boot into Windows PE, executing certain RACADM commands may cause
Windows PE to crash.
•After generating the rac confi g u r ation file using the "racadm getconfig -f <file_name>" command,
comment out the following pr op erties in the configuration file before you update a configuration
using the "racadm config -f <file_name>" command:
o #cfgRacTuneCtrlEConfigDisable=0
o #cfgRacTuneLocalConfigDisable=0
•VLAN objects (cfgNicVLanEnable, cfgNi cV LanId, and cfgNicVLanPriority) displayed using the local
RACADM command "racadm getconfig -g cfgLanNetworking" or VLAN ob jects generated in the
configuration file using the local RACADM command "racadm getconfig -f <file name>" do not
contain the leading "#" symbol which indicates that they are read-only.
Windows PE Installation Issues
•
If virtual flash is enabled and does no t contain a valid im age (f or exampl e, if t he virtual fl ash co ntains a cor rupt or
random image), you may not be able to install Windows 2000 or Windows 2003, locally or remotely. To fix this
issue, install a valid im age on vi rtual fla sh or disa ble virtu al flash if it will not be us ed during the instal lation
procedure.
•
Running partcfg.bat may fai l when virt ual media is enabled. For t he har d dis k, pa rtcfg .bat uses t he dr iver l ette r
"c:". When virtu al me dia is enabl ed, so met imes, t he vir tual dev ice ge ts as signe d with the drive l etter "c:" And,
partcfg.bat execution fails. To run partcfg .bat succes sfully, either disable the virtual media or use the diskpart
command to assign a free driver letter for partcfg.bat.
Windows PE Issues
•
Windows PE 2.0 an d 3.0 f or 64-bit do not suppor t raca dm.e xe fo r DRAC 4.
•
Windows 2008 64-bit cannot be installed usin g DTK wit h Windows PE 3.0. Use Win dows PE 2.0 for in stalling
Windows 2008 64-bit.
•
When using the H2 00 dr iver p ro vided in Win dows PE 3. 0 (64-bit), the diskpart command does not list the first
virtual disk cre ated. Do wnl oad the lat est drive r fro m the suppo rt sit e at s uppo rt.dell.com.
•
Windows PE 3.0 do es no t sup por t PERC 4 cont rol lers.
