OPC ServerThe Danfoss ECL Comfort OPC Server is an OPC-
compliant server that serves data to OPC clients.
The OPC server is implemented using advanced
programming concepts of the current version of
the OPC specification for use in developing
modern industrial software applications.

The OPC Server communicates with OPC clients
and Danfoss ECL Comfort controllers. This OPC
server is also based on the popular Modbus
protocol and can be connected to real world
Modbus compatible I/O hardware using Modbus
via an RS485 serial line or Modbus via a TCP/IP
Ethernet/internet connection.
• Advanced OPC data quality and data conversion to client’s request.
• Supports multiple multi-drop I/O devices.
• User interface for viewing tags, groups, and real-time signals.
• OPC data spy is included for viewing real-time signals in OPC Client and OPC Server
Configuration module.
• No limits to number of connections, subscriptions or tags.
• OPC tags for server status: checking, detection of connection problems and server failures,
performance etc.
• Multiple independent OPC server connections.
• Performance data throughput on serial connection @ 38400 baud: 15 packages/sec.
• Compressed read of device parameters.
• Read heat meters basic data using M-bus network in ECL Comfort 310.
• M-bus gateway function.
• Read data log file from ECL Comfort 310 memory.
• ECL Alarms in OPC tags.
• Customer basic data as OPC tags.

Data sheet ECL Comfort OPC Server
The OPC Server software contains two parts:
a user interface configuration module and the
actual OPC server, the runtime module.
Configuration moduleThe configuration module allows you to create a
database that holds configuration data of the tags
such as the tag name, the data type and the alarm
settings.
Runtime moduleThe runtime module uses a runtime database to
access the actual values of the tags configured.
Structures of both databases are indicated in the
following sections.
User benefitsThe advantages of the OPC Server software are among others:
Easy installationEasy modifications
The wizard makes installation easy
The installation of the OPC Server software is
made easy with the installation wizard. It installs
both the Configuration module as well as the
Runtime module. After installation you are
immediately able to integrate the ECL Comfort
controller into the SCADA system. The OPC Server
can even be combined with other OPC Servers.
The special features are:
Intelligent OPC Group parameter optimization.
Automatically adds, removes and maintains OPC
groups and items from ECL 210 / 310 controllers.
Simulation of OPC tags.
Set up alarm conditions for OPC tags.
Conversion of OPC server database based on
ECL Comfort 300 / ECA71 interface.
Changes made to the configuration are accepted
only after a restart of the OPC server. However,
changes made to the runtime database are
accepted online.
The SCADA system can easily be extended or
modified
New ECL Comfort controllers can easily be added
to the SCADA system at any time by using the
Configuration module. From here you can create
new areas and groups and assign ECL Comfort
controllers to these groups with just a few mouse
clicks. Switching to new application keys is also
made easy by using the Configuration module as
all parameters (PNUs) for the available application
keys are predefined.
Easy configurationOptimized performance
Use the Configuration module to save time
The Configuration module is a part of the OPC
Server software package. It is a valuable tool to
ease the integration of an electronic device, like
the ECL Comfort controller, into the SCADA
system. With the Configuration module you can
let the SCADA system use all the predefined
parameters (PNUs) for a specific application key
with just a few mouse clicks. The engineering
units, signal ranges and data types for the
parameters can be modified if needed.
The OPC Server ensures optimal reading of
parameters
The OPC Server has implemented special methods
to optimize the performance of reading parameter
values in the ECL Comfort controller. This ensures
high performance of the SCADA system even
when many parameters need to be read from
many ECL Comfort controllers.
The architecture of a traditional SCADA system
using OPC Servers is shown below.
The central building blocks of the SCADA system
are the HMI (Human Machine Inter face) using any
available SCADA client software (not included),
the database for storing all logged data from the
controllers (not included) and the OPC Server(s)
software handling the data communication with
the ECL Comfort controllers.
