For Your Safety
ß Do not touch hot surfaces, use handles and knobs. ß Ensure the lid is securely fastened to the carafe before positioning under the  lter chamber and before pouring
coffee once brewed.
ß Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brew cycle. ß Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe with a loose handle. If your carafe is damaged contact the Cuisinart
Helpline. (See “UK After Sales Service”).
ß Never open the lid during the brewing cycle, even if no water is draining from the  lter basket, since extremely
hot water/coffee can spill out from the  lter basket and cause injury. If water/ coffee is not draining from the  lter basket during the brewing cycle, switch off and unplug the unit and wait 10 minutes before opening the top lid and checking the  lter basket.
Caution: Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the  lter basket can occur under any or a combination of any of the following conditions: the use of too  nely ground coffee, using two or more paper  lters, using the gold tone  lter in conjunction with a paper  lter or not properly cleaning coffee grounds from the gold tone  lter, or allowing coffee grounds to spill over the  lter.

Preparing to Brew A Inserting the Charcoal water  lter
Your appliance is supplied with two charcoal water  lters. Before using your coffeemaker, we highly recommend that you insert one to remove impurities from your water, improving water quality and ultimately the  avour of your coffee.
ß Remove the  lter from its packaging and soak in cold tap water for 15 minutes. ß Lift the lid of the coffee maker and you will  nd the charcoal water  lter holder located at the back on the
left of your appliance. To remove, simply lift it up and out from its compartment.
ß Holding the stem of the water  lter holder in one hand use your other hand to gently press the  lter holder
door down and pull outwards to  ip open.
ß Place the  lter in the holder and close the compartment cover; you will hear a snap indicating  lter is in place.
N.B. Caution must be used when inserting the charcoal  lter. Improper placement in the holder can cause tearing of the  lter skin.
ß Hold the  lter under cold running tap water for 10 seconds to  ush. Hold the water  lter holder horizon-
tally, directly under the water stream so that the water  ows through the  lter compartment.
ß Allow the  lter to drain completely. ß Replace the water  lter holder to its compartment in the coffeemaker, pushing it all the way down to the
base of the unit.
11
Page 12
N.B. We strongly recommended that the water  lter is replaced after 90 days or 90 uses; more often if you have hard water. Failure to do so can lead to a build-up of limescale and affect the performance of your appliance. Replacement  lters can be purchased directly from the manufacturer, (refer to UK After Sales section for further details).
B Adding the Water and Ground Coffee
Before making coffee for the  rst time, we recommend operating the appliance once, using only water, to remove any dust or residue that may remain in the system from the manufacturing process.
1. Fill the water reservoir
ß Open the lid of the Brew Central, the water reservoir is located at the back right of the machine. ß Pour the desired amount of fresh cold water into the reservoir using the step water level indicator, located
at the rear of the reservoir.
2. Add the ground coffee
ß Remove the  lter basket from the  lter chamber by grasping the handle and lifting straight up, and then
place it on the work surface.
ß Insert a suitable paper  lter if required ensuring it is completely open and fully inserted in the basket. Or
simply use the permanent gold tone  lter.
ß Add the desired amount of ground coffee, corresponding to the number of cups being brewed. We recom-
mend using 1 level scoop of ground coffee per cup, but use more or less to suit your taste. Always ensure the coffee used is ground to the correct consistency for a  lter coffee machine, otherwise the machine may  ood. N.B. The maximum capacity for ground coffee is 17 tablespoons for this coffee maker. Exceeding this amount may damage the appliance.
12
Page 13
ß Replace the  lter basket in the  lter basket holder, by aligning the cut out of the basket opposite the handle,
with the cut out at the back of the chamber and  ip the lid closed.
C Preparing the Carafe
ß Remove thermal carafe lid by turning in the direction of the ‘unlock’ arrow. Pre-warm the carafe by rinsing
it out with hot water. This will help keep the coffee hotter for longer.
ß Return the carafe lid to the carafe. To lock, align the arrows on the lid and the carafe and turn in a clockwise
direction until the lid  ts tightly on carafe and arrow lines up in the centre of the spout. This ensures the lid is locked into place and in the correct position for brewing and pouring.
ß Replace the thermal carafe in its position on the resting plate. Plug the appliance into the mains, you are
now ready to brew your coffee.
13
Page 14
Brewing Coffee
Now the coffee machine is ready to brew.
A Immediate and Programmed Brewing:
Turn the function knob to brew, press the ‘On/Off’ button and the red indicator light will illuminate and the process will begin. Alternatively, to set your machine to start at a particular time, set the ‘Auto On’ function (see ‘Programming your coffee maker’ section for full instructions) and the green light will illuminate.
B During and After Brewing
ß When the brewing cycle has completed, 5 beeps will sound. Coffee will continue to stream from the  lter
for several seconds afterwards.
ß When the coffee is ready, stir before serving, to blend the  avours. The coffee at the bottom of the carafe
will be stronger than that at the top.
ß The brew-through, pour-through lid allows coffee to drip from appliance through the closed lid. When
brewing is complete, the lid seals itself so air stays out and coffee freshness and temperature are maintained. No need to turn or adjust the lid before pouring.
ß After brewing, the appliance will automatically shut off. The thermal carafe will keep the coffee hot for a
long period of time.
ß The ‘Brew Pause’ feature allows you to remove the carafe during brewing. The brewing process does not
stop during this period, only the  ow of coffee from the basket to the carafe stops.
WARNING: do not remove the carafe for longer than 30 second or the coffee may over ow the basket.
14
Page 15
N.B. Whilst we offer this feature for your convenience, we do not recommend that you pour coffee before the cycle has reached completion, since the coffee brewed at the beginning of the cycle has a very different  avour pro le to that made at the end of the cycle. Removing a cup during the cycle will alter the  avour of the  nished pot.
CAUTION: The bottom of the thermal carafe is hot to touch for several minutes after brewing.
ß To turn the Brew Central off, press the On/Off button and release. N.B. The coffeemaker shuts off automatically after brewing is complete.

Cleaning & Maintenance
ß Always turn the appliance ‘OFF’ and remove the plug from the mains outlet before cleaning. ß Completely clean and dry all parts after every use. ß Open the reservoir lid and lift out the  lter basket, discard the paper  lter (if using) or discard the cof-
fee grounds from the gold tone  lter. The gold tone  lter and  lter basket can be washed with warm soapy water and rinsed thoroughly or put on the top rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts thoroughly. N.B. Do not put any water in the unit once the  lter basket has been removed. Wipe the area under the  lter basket with a damp cloth.
ß Once clean, replace all the parts. ß To replace the  lter chamber, align the cut out opposite the handle on the  lter chamber, with the cut out
at the back of the coffeemaker and push down into place.
ß Remove the carafe from the resting plate. Discard any remaining coffee. The carafe and lid can be washed
in warm soapy water and rinsed thoroughly, or placed in a dishwasher. The carafe and carafe lid should be placed on the upper rack only.
ß Do not use scouring agents or harsh cleanser on any part of the appliance. ß Never immerse the main housing unit, cord or plug in water or other liquid. To clean the housing base,
simply wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry before storing.
ß Wipe resting plate with a clean, damp cloth. Never use rough, abrasive materials or cleansers to clean the
resting plate.
ß Do not dry the inside of the water reservoir with a cloth as lint may remain.
18
Page 19
Descaling and the ‘Clean’ function
ß Always use the charcoal water  lters provided and replace on a regular basis (i.e. every 90 days or 90
uses)
ß It is strongly recommended that you descale the appliance from time to time. The frequency depends
upon the hardness of your tap water an how often you use the appliance. The  ashing ‘Clean’ light will indicate when you should clean your coffeemaker.
If the ‘Clean’ light begins to  ash when the coffeemaker is turned on, it is telling you that the calcium build-up is interfering with the functioning of your coffeemaker and the  avour of your coffee.
To descale
ß Fill the water reservoir completely with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water and switch the
appliance on. Press the ‘Clean’ button. When the self clean light glows, turn the coffeemaker on by pressing the on/off button. The clean light will shine steadily. The coffeemaker is now in clean mode. One cycle should be suf cient to descale the appliance.
ß Once the cycle has been completed and 5 beeps sound, switch the appliance off. Turn the appliance back
on to see if the ‘Clean’ light continues to  ash. If it does, turn it to ‘Off’ and then repeat the cleaning procedure with a fresh solution of vinegar and water. If the clean light no longer  ashes, turn the coffeemaker to ‘Off ’ and then run one cycle of fresh cold water throught the unit before using the unit again to brew coffee.
Notes on the Cleaning Function
Pressing the ‘Clean’ button cancels all other settings. If it is pressed accidentally, press it again to return the coffeemaker to all its previous settings. Pressing ‘On/Off’ will also exit the ‘Clean’ mode and turn the coffeemaker off.
