Tsunami Disaster Appeal
This charity has been launched to support people in the village of
Thirukovil, the home town of the Rev Sam the Methodist minister
from Morley who lost 31 relatives in the Tsunami. Around four hundred
families now live in temporary tented camps.
Your generous donation will provide much needed support for the
poorest survivors; primarily children, elderly and disabled who, in most
cases, have lost the majority of their families.
In an endeavour to develop skills following the loss of their fishing
industry, and give hope of rebuilding lives in the future, training programmes are planned - carpentry, brick laying and cycle repairs
for males, and sewing and embroidery classes for ladies.
The charity offers - help with love - money with pride - commitment
with concern.
Any contribution you are able to make will go directly to this much
needed area - no administration fees or expenses are levied.

BEFORE USE USING THE RADIO
•Keep all the packaging until you are sure that the
Radio/Cassette Recorder is operating correctly.
• Check that the voltage indicated on the rating
plate on the back of your Radio/Cassette
Recorder corresponds to the voltage of your
mains electricity supply.
•Keep this user guide and the sales receipt for
future reference.
• The Radio/Cassette Recorder is for domestic use only.
Mains Power Operation
1 Insert the Mains Lead into
the AC socket which is
located at the back of the
Radio/Cassette Recorder.
2 Move the Volume Control
Slider on the System to MIN
before inserting the mains
plug into a wall socket, then adjust the volume to
suit. If you have batteries in your Radio/Cassette
Recorder the battery power supply will be
automatically disengaged when the Radio/Cassette
Recorder is connected to the mains supply.
Battery Operation
1 If the Radio/Cassette Recorder is connected to the
mains supply, remove the Mains Lead from the back
of the Radio and unplug it from the mains socket.
2 Remove the Battery Cover by pressing down on
the 2 retaining clips.

3 Insert four 1.5 volt batteries size ‘D’so that the
‘+’ and ‘-’ marks on the batteries match the
‘+’ and ‘-’ marks inside the unit.
4 Replace the Battery Cover making sure that the
latches have snapped back into place.
Caution: To protect your System, always observe
the following precautions:
• Do not mix new batteries with old or used
batteries.
• Only use batteries of the same type and brand.
• If you do not intend using your System for a
long time, or you are operating from the mains
supply, remove the batteries.
• When your batteries have finished, you must
dispose of them in a safe manner which
complies with applicable laws.
Earphone Socket (earphones not included)
• Insert the jack plug of your earphones into the
socket on the side of the system marked PHONES.
Note: if your earphone jack does not fit the
Earphone Socket you may need to use an adaptor.
• Move the Volume Control Slider on the System
to MIN before using the earphones, then adjust
the volume to suit.
CAUTION: You should not expose yourself to continuous
play at loud volume levels while using your earphones.
You may damage your ears. If you experience ringing in
your ears, reduce the volume or stop using your System.
If symptoms persist, see your doctor.
Radio Operation
1 Unclip the Aerial and extend it fully.
2 Slide the Band Selector to either FM or AM.
3 Move the Volume Control Slider to MIN.
4 Slide the Function Switch to RADIO.
5 Turn the Tuning Dial and check the Frequency
Indicator to find the station you wish to listen to,
then adjust the volume to suit.
6 To turn off the Radio, slide the Function Switch
to TAPE
.
Radio Reception
FM
Adjust the angle of the Aerial for the best reception.
AM
As the AM aerial is located within your System, it
may be necessary to rotate the System for the best
reception.
Note: Try to keep metallic objects away from your
System.

USING THE TAPE PLAYER
Playback
1 Move the Volume Control Slider on the System
to MIN.
2 Slide the Function Switch to TAPE.
3 Press the STOP/EJECT button to open the
Cassette Door and insert a cassette tape with
the side of the tape you want to hear facing
towards you.
4 Close the Cassette Door by pushing it gently
back to its original position until it clicks.
5 Press the PLAY button.
6 Adjust the volume as desired.
7 To stop playback, press the STOP/EJECT button.
8 During playback, the cassette deck will stop
automatically when the end of a cassette tape
is reached.
Note: To stop playback momentarily, press the
PAUSE button. To resume playback, press the PAUSE
button again. Press the F. FWD or REWIND buttons
to start rapid tape winding in either direction.
Press the STOP/EJECT button when you have reached
the required position.

Recording from the Radio
1 Move the Volume Control Slider on the System
to MIN.
2 Slide the Function Switch to RADIO.
3 Tune into your desired radio programme as
described in ‘USING THE RADIO’ on page 4.
4 Insert a blank cassette tape that is suitable for
recording.
5 Press the PAUSE button.
6 Press the RECORD button, the PLAY button will
depress at the same time.
7 When you a ready to record from the Radio
release the PAUSE button.
8 Adjust the volume as required, this will not
affect the recording.
9 Press the STOP/EJECT button to stop recording.
10 During recording the cassette deck will stop
automatically when the end of a cassette tape
is reached.
Recording to the Tape Player
1 Move the Volume Control Slider to MAX.
2 Slide the Function Switch to TAPE.
3 Insert a blank cassette tape suitable for recording.
4 Press the PAUSE button.
5 Press the RECORD button, the PLAY button will
depress at the same time.
6 When you a ready to record release the PAUSE
button. To achieve the best recording results
place the sound source close to the Speaker.
7 Press the STOP/EJECT button to stop recording.
8 During recording the cassette deck will stop
automatically when the end of a cassette tape
is reached.
9 To listen to your recording press the REW
button to the start of play then press the PLAY
button.

MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY TECHNICAL SPECS
Safety
•To avoid electric shock - never immerse in
water or allow water to drip or be splashed
onto your System. Do not try to open the unit
itself. Always refer servicing to a qualified
service centre.
• Should any heavy object or liquid fall on/into
your System, unplug the System and have it
checked by a qualified service centre only.
•A small amount of current continues to flow to
the System when not in use but still plugged
into a mains socket. Unplug from the mains if it
is not to be used for an extended period of time.
• Do not take the Radio into or near a bathroom,
shower cabinet, swimming pool or any other
location where it is likely to come into contact
with water.
•To disconnect the mains adaptor, pull out by the
plug itself - never disconnect by pulling the cable.
• Do not use with an extension lead.
• Do not place anything on top of, or around
your System that will impede ventilation.
• During use, place your System in a location with
adequate ventilation, to prevent heat build up.
• Close supervision is necessary when the System
is used by children or a person suffering from
any physical impairment.
• Do not drop the System or subject it to strong
shocks as this could result in damage or failure.
• This System should not be mounted on a wall
or ceiling.
• The System should not be used next to heat
sources such as fires or other appliances.
• Do not use in humid or dusty locations.
• Do not use in locations exposed to heavy vibration.
• Do not use on unstable or tilted surfaces.
• Do not situate on beds, sofas, rugs or similar
surfaces which may block the Systems
ventilation openings.
• The power cord should be sited in such a way so
that it will not cause an accident or obstruction.
Maintenance
Tape Heads
Clean the tape head and pinch roller and capstan
regularly to assure continuing high performance
from your System.
A cassette head cleaner or head cleaning fluid may
be used. Follow the instructions on the packaging.
Cleaning
If the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a soft
damp cloth. Never use abrasive cleansers or
chemical solvents, as they may damage the casing.
To prevent a fire or shock hazard, do not expose the
System to rain, moisture or any form of naked
flame, such as a lit candle.

This appliance is fitted with a fused three pin plug
which will be suitable for use in all houses fitted with
sockets to current specifications. Make sure that the
electricity supply voltage is the same as that
indicated on the appliance rating label. If the socket
outlets in your home are not suitable for the plug
supplied with this appliance, the plug should be
removed and an appropriate one fitted. A cut off plug
must have the fuse removed immediately and not be
re-used. It should be carefully disposed of as it can be
dangerous if plugged into a socket by children
Fitting a new plug
If the plug supplied cannot be used, the flexible
mains lead must be connected as shown here. The
wires in the mains lead fitted to this appliance are
coloured in accordance with the following code:
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
If the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
appliance do not correspond with coloured markings
identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows.
The wire which is coloured Green and Yellow MUST be
connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter E
(Earth) or symbol or coloured Green. The wire which is
coloured Blue MUST be connected to the terminal which is
marked with the letter N or coloured Black. The wire which
is coloured Brown MUST be connected to the terminal
which is marked with the letter L or coloured Red.
Before refitting the plug cover check that there are
no cut or stray strands of wire inside the plug and
that the clamp has been secured firmly over the
outer sheath of the mains lead.
Only fuses approved to B.S. 1362 A.S.T.A. should be
used. The fuse value for this appliance is 3amp.
If you are in anyway unsure which plug or fuse to
use, always refer to a qualified electrician.
