Frequently Asked Questions...
• What is a power shower?
A power shower does not heat the water directly, but rather takes both hot and cold water
from the cylinder and header tank respectively, using a mixer valve, offering a simple plumbing installation. An integrated booster pump is used to boost the flow of water to give a powerful shower spray . Power Showers are generally used where there is insufficient water pressure on gravity fed water supplies. Please refer to the diagram.
• What is a gravity fed water supply?
A gravity fed water supply usually consists of a cold water tank, typically stored in a loft and a hot water cylinder, usually stored in an airing cupboard. A power shower or mixer shower can connect to this type of system. Electric showers cannot be connected to this type of system.
• Identifying the right shower for your water system
The type of shower you need and its performance will be influenced by your water system. If you have a gravity fed (low pressure) system and you are looking to install a shower, you will need to choose a Creda power shower. If you have a cold water mains fed plumbing system, you will not be able to install a power shower but can choose from the Creda electric showers range.
• What things do I need to consider when replacing my existing shower?
You will need to consider the type of plumbing system you have which is covered above. Are you replacing an existing mixer shower, electric shower or power shower? Mixer showers and power showers will fit on a gravity fed plumbing system but electric showers will not. Electric showers connect to a cold water mains fed plumbing system only and heats the water directly as required.
• What is a mains fed hot water system?
A mains fed hot water system is fed directly from the rising main cold water supply coming into the house and does not use a
header tank. A high-pressure cylinder of water, heated by a boiler or immersion heater, usually provides high volumes of water. Electric showers can connect to this system. You can not connect a power shower to this type of system.
