• Alwayswear safetyglassesorsafetygogglesduringoperation andwhileperformingan adjustmentorrepairto protectyoureyes. Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancauseseriousinjurytothe eyes.

Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclose-fittingslacks and shirts.Shirtsand pantsthatcoverthearmsandlegsand

steel-toedshoesare recommended.Neveroperatethis machine inbarefeet,sandals,slipperyor light-weight(e.g.canvas)shoes.

Donot puthandsor feetnearrotatingpartsor underthecutting

deck.Contactwithbladecan amputatefingers,hands,toesand feet.

A missingordamageddischargecovercancausebladecontact or thrownobjectinjuries.

Manyinjuriesoccuras a resultofthe mowerbeingpulledoverthe footduringafallcausedby slippingortripping.Do notholdon to themowerif youarefalling:releasethehandleimmediately.

Neverpullthemowerbacktowardyouwhileyou arewalking.If youmustbackthemowerawayfroma wallor obstructionfirst

lookdownandbehindtoavoidtrippingandthenfollowthese

steps:

1. Stepbackfrommowerto fullyextendyourarmsforward.

2. Besureyouarewellbalancedwithsurefooting.

3. Pullthemowerbackslowly,no morethanhalf waytoward

you.

4. Repeatthesestepsas needed.

Donot operatethemowerwhileunderthe influenceofalcoholor drugs.

Donot engagetheself-propelledmechanismon machinesso equippedwhilestartingengine.

• Thebladecontrolhandleisa safetydevice.Neverattemptto bypassitsoperation.Doingsomakesthesafetydeviceinopera- tiveandmayresultin personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe rotatingblade.Thebladecontrolhandlemustoperateeasily in bothdirectionsandautomaticallyreturntothe disengaged positionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatethe mowerinwetgrass.Alwaysbe sureof your footing.A slip andfallcancauseseriouspersonalinjury.Ifyou feelyou arelosingyourfooting,releasethebladecontrolhandle immediatelyandthebladewill stop rotatingwithinthreeseconds.

• Mowonlyin daylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.

• Stopthebladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.

• Iftheequipmentshouldstartto vibrateabnormally,stopthe engineandcheckimmediatelyfor thecause.Vibrationis gener- allya warningoftrouble.

• Shuttheengineoff andwaituntilthebladecomestoa complete stopbeforeremovingthe grasscatcheroruncloggingthechute. Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotateforafewsecondsafterthe bladecontrolisreleased.Neverplaceanypartofthebodyinthe bladeareauntilyou aresurethe bladehasstoppedrotating.

• Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrailshield,dischargecover, grasscatcher,bladecontrolhandleor othersafetyprotectivede- vicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemowerwithdamaged safetydevices.Failuretodo socan resultinpersonalinjury.

Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancausea burn.Donot touch.

• Neverattempttomakea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile theengineis running.

• Onlyusepartsandaccessoriesmadeforthis machineby the manufactureraslistedin the Partspagesof thisOperator's Manual.Failuretodosocan resultin personalinjury.

• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntilresistanceisfelt,then pullrapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord(kickback)willpull handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Broken bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.

• Ifsituationsoccurwhicharenotcoveredinthismanual,usecare andgoodjudgement.Contact1-800-4MY-HOME®forinformation

andassistance.

SLOPE OPERATION

Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedto slipandfall accidents,whichcan resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopesrequiresextracaution.If youfeel uneasyona slope,do notmowit. Foryoursafety,usethe SlopeGuideincludedaspartof thismanualto measureslopesbefore operatingthis machineona slopedor hillyarea. Iftheslopeisgreater than15degrees,donot mowit.

Do:

Mowacrossthefaced slopes;neverupanddown.Exercise

extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.

• Watchforholes,ruts,rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumpswhichcan causeyouto sliportrip.Tallgrasscanhideobstacles.

• Alwaysbesureofyourfooting.A slipandfall cancauseserious personalinjury.Ifyou feelyou arelosingyourbalance,release thebladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop

rotatingwithinthree(3)seconds.

DoNot:

• Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditchesorembankments,because youcouldloseyourfootingorbalance.

• Donotmowslopesgreaterthan15degreesas shownon the slopeguide.

• Donotmowon wetgrass.Unstablefootingcouldcauseslipping.

CHILDREN

Tragicaccidentscanoccuriftheoperatoris notalerttothe presence ofchildren.Childrenareoftenattractedto themowerandthe mowing activity.Theydonotunderstandthe dangers.Neverassumethat childrenwill remainwhereyoulastsawthem.

Keepchildrenoutofthe mowingareaandunderwatchfulcareof

a responsibleadultotherthantheoperator.

• Bealertandturnmoweroffif achildentersthe area.

• Beforeandwhilemovingbackwards,look behindanddownfor smallchildren.

• Useextremecarewhenapproachingblindcorners,doorways, shrubs,trees,orotherobjectsthatmayobscureyourvisionofa childwhomayrunintothe mower.

• Keepchildrenawayfromhotor runningengines.Theycan suffer burnsfroma hot muffler.

• Neverallowchildrenunder14yearsofagetooperatethis machine.Children14andovershouldreadand understandthe

instructionsandsafeoperationpracticesinthis manualandon themachineandbetrainedandsupervisedby an adult.

SERVICE

SafeHandlingOf Gasoline:

• Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamageuseextremecare in handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthe vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen gasolineis spilledonyourselfor yourclothes,whichcan ignite. Washyourskinandchangeclothesimmediately.

• Useonlyanapprovedgasolinecontainer.

• Neverfillcontainersinsideavehicleoronatruckortrailerbed witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson thegroundaway

fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruck ortrailerand

refueliton theground.Ifthisis notpossible,thenrefuelsuch equipmenton atrailerwitha portablecontainer,ratherthanfrom a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthenozzleincontactwiththe rimofthefueltankor containeropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Donotuse a nozzlelock-opendevice.

• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersources ofignition.

• Neverfuelmachineindoorsbecauseflammablevaporswill accumulateinthearea.

• Neverremovegascap oraddfuelwhileengineis hotor running. Allowengineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

• Neverover-fillfueltank.Toallowforexpansionofthefuel,donot fillabovethebottomofthe fueltankneck.

• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

• Ifgasolineis spilled,wipeit offtheengineandequipment.Move machinetoanotherarea.Wait5minutesbeforestartingengine.

• Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainernearanopenflame, sparkor pilotlightasona waterheater,spaceheater,furnace, clothesdryerorothergas appliances.

• Toreducefirehazard,keepmachinefreeofgrass,leaves,or otherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanupoil orfuelspillageand removeany

fuel-soakeddebris. Allowmachinetocoolat least5 minutesbeforestoring.

GeneralService:

• Neverrunanengineindoorsorina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertainthe bladeandall movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthe spark plugwireandgroundagainstthe enginetopreventunintended starting.

Checkthebladeandenginemountingboltsatfrequentintervals forpropertightness.Also,visuallyinspectbladefordamage(e.g., bent,cracked,worn).Replacebladewiththeoriginalequipment manufacture's(O.E.M.)bladeonly,listedinthePartspagesofthis manual.Useofpartswhichdonotmeettheoriginalequipment specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompro- misesafety!

• Mowerbladesare sharpandcancut. Wrapthe bladeor wear gloves,anduse extracautionwhenservicingthem.

Keepall nuts,bolts,andscrewstighttobe suretheequipmentis insafeworkingcondition.

Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation regularly.

Afterstrikingaforeignobject,stopthe engine,disconnectthe sparkplugwireand groundagainsttheengine.Thoroughly inspectthemowerforanydamage.Repairthedamagebefore startingandoperatingthemower.

Neverattempttomakea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile theengineisrunning.

• Grasscatchercomponents,dischargecover,and trailshieldare subjectto wearanddamagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsor allowobjectstobethrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheck componentsand replaceimmediatelywithoriginalequipment manufacturer's(O.E.M.)partsonly,listedinthePartspages ofthismanual.Useof partswhichdo notmeettheoriginal equipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand compromisesafety!

Donot changetheengine'sgovernorsettingor over-speedthe engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthemaximumsafeoperatingspeed ofthe engine.

Checkfuelline,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyfor cracksor

leaks.Replaceifnecessary.

Donot crankenginewith sparkplugremoved.

• Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnecessary.

• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulations.Improperdisposal offluidsandmaterialscanharmtheenvironment.

Accordingto theConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC) andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct

hasanAverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 140hoursof

operation.AttheendoftheAverageUsefulLifehavethemachine

inspectedannuallybya Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer

toensurethatallmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworking

properlyand notwornexcessively.Failuretodosocanresultin

accidents,injuriesordeath.

DO NOT MODIFY ENGINE

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do not modifyengineinany way. Tamperingwiththegovernorsettingcanleadtoa runawayengineand causeitto operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysetting ofenginegovernor.Doingsowillvoidtheproductwarranty.

NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS

EngineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywithCaliforniaandfederal

EPAemissionregulationsforSORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are certifiedto operateonregularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude thefollowingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM)and ThreeWayCatalyst(TWC)ifsoequipped.

SPARK ARRESTOR

Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineand shouldnotbe usedonor nearany unimprovedforest-covered, brush-coveredorgrass-coveredlandunlessthe engine'sexhaust systemisequippedwitha sparkarrestormeetingapplicablelocalor statelaws(if any).

Ifa sparkarrestorisused,itshouldbe maintainedineffectiveworking orderbytheoperator.Inthe StateofCaliforniatheaboveisrequired

bylaw(Section4442ofthe CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other

statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonfederallands. A sparkarrestor(PartNo.398067)forthe mufflerisavailablethrough

yournearestSearsPartsandRepairServiceCenter.

READ THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL(S)

Read, understand, and follow all instructions in the manual(s) before attempting to assemble and

operate

DANGER -- ROTATING BLADES

To reduce the risk of injury, keep hands and feet away. Do not operate unless discharge cover or grass catcher isin its proper place. If damaged, replace immediately.

DANGER -- BYSTANDERS Do not mow when children or others are around.

DANGER-- HAND/FOOT CUT Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts.

DANGER -- THROWN DEBRIS Remove objects that can be thrown by the blade in any direction. Wear safety glasses.

DANGER -- SLOPES Use extra caution on slopes. Do not mow slopes greater than 150.

WARNING--GASOLINE ISFLAMMABLE Allow the engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling.

WARNING-- CARBON MONOXIDE

Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas.

WARNING-- HOT SURFACE

Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and muffler to cool before touching.

Attaching The Handle

1. Removeanypackingmaterialwhichmaybebetweenupperand lowerhandles.

A. Pullupandbackon upperhandleasshownin Figure1.

Makecertainthe lowerhandleisseatedsecurelyintothe handlemountingbrackets.Donotcrimpcableswhilelifting thehandleup.

B. Tightenstarknobstosecureupperhandleto lowerhandle.

Makesurethateach carriageboltisseatedproperlyinthe handle.

2. Locatethehairpinclip ontheweldpinon eachsideof lower handle.

A. Removehairpinclipfromweldpin.Usinga pairofpliers,

inserthairpinclipintotheholeonpinclosestto thebracket. SeeFigure2. Repeaton otherside.

B. Inserta carriageboltfromthe manualbagintotheupper

holeonthehandlemountingbracket.Securewithone plastic wingnut,also includedinthemanualbag.Repeatonother sidewith remaininghardware.

NOTE:Makecertainthe drivecable isroutedaroundtheoutsideand abovethelowerhandleso itdoes notinterferewithattachingthegrass

bag.The chutedoorhasbeendesignedtomovethestarterropeoutof thewayof thebagwhenthechutedooris opened.

wheel.

1. Pulltheheightadjustmentlevertowardswheel.

2. Moveleverto desiredpositionfora changeincuttingheight.See Figure7.

3. Releaselevertowardsdeck.

Drive Control

Theadjustmentwheelislocatedin the drivecontrolhandlehousing andisusedtotightenor loosenthedrivebelt.Youwillhaveto adjust thedrive controlifany ofthe followinghappens:

1. Themowerdoesnotpropelitselfwiththedrivecontrolengaged.

2. Themower'sdrivewheelshesitatewiththedrivecontrolengaged.

Ifeitherof theseconditionsoccur,rotatetheadjustmentwheel clockwisetotightenandcounter-clockwiseto loosencabletoadjust thedrive control.SeeFigure8.

Thebladecontrolis attachedtotheupperhandleofthemower.See Figure9. Depressand squeezeitagainsttheupperhandleto operate theunit.Releaseitto stopengineand blade.

Yourmoweris shippedasa mulcher.Todischargethegrassclippings tothe sideinstead,followtheinstructionsin theAssemblysectionto attachthe sidedischargecover.

Thisbladecontrolisa safetydevice.Neverattempttobypassits operations.

CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

LEVER

Thecuttingheightadjustmentleverislocatedabovethe left rearwheel.Toadjustthecuttingheight,referto the Assemblysection.

DRIVE CONTROL

2. Holdingthesetwohandlestogetherfirmly,grasprecoilstarter handleandpull ropeslowlyuntil resistanceisfelt, thenpullwitha rapid,continuous,full armstroke.SeeFigure11.Keepinga firm griponthestartercordhandle,letthe roperewindslowly.Repeat untilenginecranks.Lettheroperewindeachtimeslowly.

Rapidretractionof startercord(kickback)willpullhandandarm towardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Brokenbones,fractures, bruisesorsprainscouldresult.

NOTE:Ifenginefloods,waita fewminutesto restart.

TO STOP ENGINE

1. Releasebladecontroltostopthe engineandblade.

Waitforthe bladeto stopcompletelybeforeperforminganyworkon themowerorto removethegrasscatcher.

USING YOUR LAWN MOWER

Besurelawnisclearofstones,sticks,wire,orotherobjectswhich coulddamagelawnmoweror engine.Suchobjectscouldbeaccidently thrownbythemowerin anydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjury tothe operatorandothers.

Theoperationofany lawnmowercanresultinforeignobjectsbeing thrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyesseverely.Always wearsafetyglasseswhileoperatingthemower,or whileperforming anyadjustmentsor repairsonit.

1. Oncethe engineis running,squeezethedrivecontrolagainstthe upperhandleto propelmower.Releaseittodisengagethedrive.

USING AS MULCHER

Formulchinggrass,removethegrasscatcherorthesidedischarge chutefromthemower,and reattachthemulchingbaffle.Foreffective mulching,donot cutwetgrass.If thegrasshasbeenallowedtogrow in excessoffourinches,mulchingisnot recommended.Usethegrass catcherto bagclippingsinstead.

USING GRASS CATCHER

Youcanuse thegrasscatchertocollectclippingswhileyou are operatingthemower.

1. Attachgrasscatcherfollowinginstructionsinthe Assembly section.Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect inthebagas

yourunthe mower.

2. Operatethemowertillthegrassbagisfull.

3. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe bladecontrol.Makesure thattheunit hascometo a completestop.

4. Whileholdingthegrassbagbyboththerearhandleandthe lower

handle,liftthe grassbagstraightupoffthe adapter.Thechute

doorwillmovethe ropeoutof thewayof thebag.

5. Continuingtoholdthelowerhandle,raisethe rearofthe grass

bagand releasethelowerhandleovera properreceptacle.The

grassbagwillopenandthe grassclippingswilldisperse.When

replacingthe grassbag,be surethetop ofthe bagrestsonthe

wiresupportbetweenthehandles.

If youstrikea foreignobject,stoptheengine.Disconnectthe spark plugwire,thoroughlyinspectmowerforanydamage,and repair damagebeforerestartingandoperating.Extensivevibrationof mower duringoperationisan indicationofdamage.Theunit shouldbe promptlyinspectedandrepaired.

2. Tipmowersothat it restsonthe housing,keepingthemufflerside down.Referto Figure14.Holdmowerfirmly.

Nevertip themowermorethan900inany directionanddo not leave

the mowertippedforany lengthoftime.Oilcandrainintothe upper

partof theenginecausinga startingproblem.

3. Scrapeandcleantheundersideof thedeckwithasuitabletool.

Donot spraywithwater.

IMPORTANT:Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhosetoclean yourunit.Thesemaycausedamageto bearings,orthe engine.The useof waterwillresultinshortenedlifeandreduceserviceability.

4. Putthemowerbackon itswheelsontheground.Ifyouhadput plasticunderthe gascapearlier,makesuretoremoveit now.

REPLACING REAR FLAP

Toreplacerearflap,proceedasfollows:

1. Toremoverearflap,lift reardoor,removescrew,andpressflapin oneithersideto removefromhole.SeeFigure16.

2. Removescrewandflapfromoppositeholeandreplacewithnew flapinthe oppositeorderand mannerofremoval.

BLADE CARE

Whenremovingthe cuttingbladefor sharpeningor replacement,

protectyourhandswitha pairof heavyglovesor usea heavyragto holdthe blade.

Periodicallyinspectthebladeadapterforcracks,especiallyifyou

strikea foreignobject.Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps belowfor bladeservice.

1. Disconnectsparkplugbootfromsparkplug.Turnmoweronitsside makingsurethatthe airfilterandthecarburetorarefacingup.

2. Removetheboltandthebladebellsupportwhichholdtheblade andthebladeadapterto theenginecrankshaft.SeeFigure17.

3. Removebladeandadapterfromthecrankshaft.

4. Removebladefromtheadapterfor testingbalance.Balancethe bladeon a roundshaftscrewdriverto check.Removemetalfrom

theheavyside untilit balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe blade,followthe originalangleof grind.Grindeachcuttingedge equallyto keepthe bladebalanced.

Anunbalancedbladewillcauseexcessivevibrationwhenrotatingat highspeeds.Itmaycausedamagetomowerandcouldbreakcausing personalinjury.

Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrolpartsdefects fora periodofone year,subjecttoprovisionssetforthbelow.Ifanycovered

Owner's Warranty

Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,youareresponsiblefor theperformanceof therequiredmaintenancelistedin yourOperatingandMaintenanceInstruc-

tions.Searsrecommendsthatyouretainallyourreceiptscoveringmaintenance onyoursmalloff-roadengine,butSearscannotdenywarrantysolelyforthe lackofreceiptsorforyourfailuretoensuretheperformanceof allscheduled maintenance.Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,you shouldhoweverbe

4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions

Warrantyclaimsshallbefiled inaccordancewiththe provisionsofthe SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor failuresof WarrantedPartswhicharenotoriginalSears partsor because ofabuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears

EngineWarrantyPolicy.Sears is notliableto coverfailuresof Warranted Partscausedby theuseof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.

5. Maintenance

AnyWarrantedPartwhichis notscheduledforreplacementas required

maintenanceor whichis scheduledonlyforregularinspectionto the effect

of"repairor replaceasnecessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the warrantyperiod.AnyWarrantedPartwhichis scheduledfor replacement asrequiredmaintenanceshallbewarrantedasto defectsonly forthe

periodoftime uptothe firstscheduledreplacementfor thatpart.Any replacementpartthat isequivalentin performanceand durabilitymay

beusedinthe performanceofanymaintenanceor repairs.Theowneris responsibleforthe performanceof allrequiredmaintenance,asdefinedin

the SearsOperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.

6. ConsequentialCoverage

Coveragehereundershallextendto thefailure ofanyenginecomponents causedbythefailureofanyWarrantedPartstillunderwarranty.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears Brands Management Corporation makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte- nance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time. Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time. Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time. For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions

Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years. The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The

lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears Brands Management Corporation engines will be certified to meet the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating hours for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours. For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This isa generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

1. Retireel materialde empaqueque pudiera estar entre lasmanijas superiore inferior.

A. Tire haciaarriba y hacia atra.sia manijasuperior como se

muestraen la Figura 1.Asegurese de que ia manijainferior este asentadafirmemente en los soportes de montaje de la manija. Asimismo,no prense los cables mientrasievanta la manija.

B. Apriete las perillas estrella que sujetan la manija superior a

la manija inferior.AsegQrese de que cada perno del carro est_ apropiadamente asentado en la manija.

2. Localiceel pasadorde horquilla que se encuentraen el pasador soldado acada ladode la manijainferior.

A. Saque el pasador de horquilla deeste orificio. Con unpar de

pinzas,inserte el pasador de horquilla enel agujerodei pasador mas cercanoai soporte. Vea ia Figura2. Repitadei otto iado.

B. Inserte el bul6n de carro en el manual de la bolsa en el

orificio superior en el soporte de montaje de la manija. Sujete con una tuerca pl_.sticade mariposa, que tambi_n se incluyeen el manual de la bolsa. Vea la Fig. 3-2. Repita del

otto lado con los restantes hardware.

NOTA: Aseguresede que el cable de transmisi6nquede alrededorde la parteexterior y pot encima de la manija inferiorde manera queno interfiera cuandose acople la boisacolectora. Control de la transmisi6n

LLENADO DE GASOLINA Y ACEITE

Aceite (se envia una botella junto con la unidad)

Primer uso

1. Saquela varilla del niveldeaceite (G).

2. Con la cortadorade cesped ubicada en suelo nivelado, viertael aceitebntamente pot dentro del tubode Ilenadode aceite del motor (H) hastalamarca de limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite(J). Vea la Figura 10.

3. Vuelvaa colocar la varilla de Ilenadode aceitey ajQstela.

Usos posteriores

Use aceitepara motor de 4 tiempos que cumplao sobrepase los requisitos para laclasificaci6n de servicio APi SK SG, SH, SJo

equivalente. Compruebesiempre ia etiquetade servicio API en el recipientedei aceite para asegurarseque incluye las letrasSK SG,SH, SJ o equivalente.

Temperaturasai aire libre de determinar laviscosidad dei aceite correcto para el motor.Use la tabla paraseleccionar la mejor viscosidad para el rangode temperatura ai aire libre se espera.

5. Vuelvaa instalar la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.

Gasolina

No utilicegasolinas noaprobados,tales como E85. Nomezcle el aceite en ia gasolinao modificar el motorparafuncionar con combustibles aiternativos. Esto dafiara,los componentesdel motor y anular la garantia del motor.

De combustible debe cumplirestos requisitos: ,, Limpia, fresca, la gasolina sin piomo.

• Un minimo de 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON).

Lagasolina es aitamente inflamabley explosiva y usted puede quemars_ o iesionarse gravementeai reabastecer.Pareel motor y mantenga iejos el calor, las chispas y las llamas. Reabastezcas61oaiaire libre. Limpie

inmediatamente los derrames.

Si vaa usar eiequipo de forma intermitente os61oocasionalmente,

consulte ia secci6n deAimacenamiento FueradeTemporada para obtener ma.sinformaci6nsobre el deterioro del combustible.

NOTA:El combustible puede dafiar lapinturay aigunos tipos de plastico.

Tengacuidado de no derramar combustible cuando Ilena el tanque.

No use nuncagasolina rancia o contaminada ni mezclas de aceitey gaso- lina.No permita queentre suciedad o aguaen el tanque de combustible.

AsegQresede que ninguna personaaparte deioperador permanezca cerca de ia cortadora mientras arranca elmotor u opera la misma. Nunca encienda el motor en espacioscerrados o en una zonacon poca ventilaci6n. El escapedel motor contiene mon6xidode carbono, ungas inodoro y ietai. Mantenga ias manos,los pies, el cabello y la ropa suelta alejados de las partes m6viles del motor y de lacortadora.

PARA ENCENDER EL MOTOR

1. Coi6quesedetra.sde la podadora, aprieteia manija de control de la cuchillay sostengala contra lamanija superior.Vea la Figura 11.

2. Sostengafirmemente lasdos manijasjuntas, tomela manija del arrancadorde retroceso y tire de ia cuerda para sacarla con un movimientora.pidoycontinuo. Vea la Figura 11.Mantenga firme ia manijadel arrancador,deje que la cuerda regrese lentamenteal arrancador.Repitahastaque el motor esteen marcha. Deje quela cuerdase enrosque lentamentede regreso.

PARA DETENER EL MOTOR

Esperea que ia cuchillase haya detenidopot completo antesde hacer cualquiertrabajo en la cortadora o de retirarel colector de cesped.

USO DE LA CORTADORA DE ClaSPED

Aseguresedequeel cespedesta.librede piedras,palos,cablesu otros objetosque pudiesendafiar la cortadorao el motor.Dichos objetospueden setarrojadosaccidentalmentepotla cortadoraen cualquierdirecci6ny provocarlesionespersonalesgravesai operadory a otraspersonas.

AIoperar una cortadora de cespedes posible que objetos extrafios sean arrojadosa los ojos, Iocual puede dafiarlos gravemente.Utilice siempre

galas de seguridad durante laoperaci6n de la cortadora de cespedo mientrasla ajusta o repara.

1. Una vez que el motor est6 funcionando, apriete el control de transmisi6n contra la manija superior para propulsar la podadora.

USO COMO ABONADORA

Paraabonar el cesped, quiteel colector de cesped o el canal de descarga lateralde ia ma.quina,y acople la tolva de abono. Para unabono eficiente, no corte cespedhQmedo.Si el cesped ha crecido ma.sde 10,2cm. (4 pulg.) no serecomienda el uso de la podadora comoabonadora. Enese

caso, useel colector de cespedpara embolsar los recortes.

USO DEL COLECTOR DE ClaSPED

Puedeutilizar elcolector de cesped para recoger dichos recortes mientras

opera la podadora.

1. Acople el colector de cesped siguiendo iasinstrucciones de la secci6n de Montaje.Los recortesde cesped son recolectadosen la

bolsade forma automa.ticaa medida que pasaia cortadora.

2. Opere ia cortadora hasta queia bolsacolectora este iiena.

3. Detengaei motor pot completosoltando la manija de control de la cuchiiia. Compruebe que ia unidad se hayadetenido por completo.

4. Mientrassostengala boisa colectora de pastopot medio de la

manijatraseray la manijainferior, levantela bolsa colectorapara

sacarla dei adaptador.La puerta delcanal movera,la cuerda fuera del camino de la bolsa.

5. Continuesosteniendo ia manija inferior,eleve ia parte posteriorde la bolsacolectora,y liberanel manija inferiorsobre un recepta.culo

apropiado. La bolsa colectorase abrira,ylos recortesde cesped se dispersara.n.AIvolver a colocarla bolsa decesped, asegurese de que la partesuperior de la bolsa seapoye sobre el sosten del cable entre las manijas.

Si golpea un objeto extrafio, detenga ei motor.Retire elcable de ia bujia, inspeccione detenidamentela cortadora para vet que no tenga dafios, y repare el dafio antesde volver aencender y operar. Elexceso de vibraci6n de la cortadora durante la operaci6n es una indicaci6nde dafio. Se debe inspeccionary reparar la unidad Io antes posible.

Comprobar el aceite del motor

Comprobarel nivelde aceite antesde cada operaci6n. Aseg_resede que el niveide aceite se mantiene.

La gasolina y sus vapores son extrernadarnente inflarnables y explosivos. Un incendio o una explosi6n pueden causar graves quernaduras o a rnuerte.

Limpie el motor

Diariamenteoantes de cada use, limpie el cesped, lagrasa o los residues acumuladosdel motor.Mantenga limpios el varillaje,los resortes y los controles. Mantenga eia.reaque rodea alsilenciador y detra.sdei mismo iibrede cualquier residue combustible.

El mantenimientodel motoren condiciones limpias permiteel movimientode aire airededordel mismo.

Laspartes dei motor se @ben mantenerlimpias para reducir el riesgode sobrecalentamientoy combusti6n de los residues

acumulados.

No useagua para limpiar ias piezas dei motor. Elagua puede contaminar el sistemade combustible. Use un cepillo o un trapo seco.

LUBRICACI6N f -_

Control de la cuchilla

Lubriquecon aceiteligero los puntosde pivote del control de la cuchilla al

menos unavez cada estaci6n. Estecontrole debe funcionar libremente en ambas direcciones.Vea la Figura15.

Ruedas

Lubriquelasruedas una vez pottemporada con aceite ligero (o aceite para motor).Sinembargo, si las ruedas se quitan pot cualquierraz6n, debe lubricar la superficie del perno del eje y la superficie internade la ruedacon aceite iigero. Veaia Figura15.

Adaptador de colector de pasto

Lubriqueelresorte de torsi6n y ei punto de pivote en cadaextremo de la puertadel adaptadorde colector de pasto pot io menosuna vez pot temporada con aceiteligero paraevitar que seoxide. Vea la Figura 16.

Transmisi6n

Latransmisi6n es prelubricada y selladaen la fa.bricay no requiere lubricaci6n.

LIMPIEZA DE LA PLATAFORMA

Debelimpiar la parte inferiorde la plataformade la cortadora decesped unavez una temporada para prevenirla acumulaci6n de recortesde cesped u otros desechos.Siga los pasosque aparecen debajo para

reaiizar estatarea.

1. Desconecteel cable de la bujfa. Drene la gasolinade lacortadora o coloque untrozo de pla.sticodebajo deltap6n de Ilenado del

combustible.

2. inclinela cortadora de cesped de modo que quede apoyadasobre al alojamiento,mantenga el silenciadorde costado hacia abajo. Sostengafirmemente la cortadora.

Nunca inclineia cortadora de cesped ma.sde 90oen ningunadirecci6n y nodeje la unidad inclinada.Se puede filtrar aceite dentrode la parte superior del motor y causar problemas de arranque.

3. Raspey iimpie ia parte inferior de la plataformamedianteel uso de unaherramienta adecuada. No la rode conagua.

IMPORTANTE: No utilice una lavadoraa presi6n o manguerade jardfn para limpiarsu unidad. Puedenproducir daSosa los rodamientos oal motor.El uso de aguaacortara,la vida _til de la ma.quinay reducira,su capacidadde servicio.

4. Vuelvaa colocar ia cortadorade cesped sobre susruedas en el suelo. Si puso un pla.sticodebajo deltap6n de Ilenado de

combustible asegt]resede sacarlo en este momento.

CAIVlBIO DE LA ALETA TRASERA

Paracambiarla aleta trasera, proceda de la siguiente manera:

1. Para quitar la tapa trasera, levante la puerta trasera, quite el torniNo,y la tapa de prensa en a ambos lados para quitar del agujero. Vet la Figura 16.

2. Quite el tornillo y la tapa del agujero de enfrente y sustituya por la nueva tapa en la orden de enfrente y la manera del retiro.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA _

Cuandosaque la cuchilla de corte para afilarlao reemplazarla, protejase las manos usandoun parde guantes para trabajo rudoo un trapo gruesc parasostener la cuchilla.

Inspeccioneperi6dicamente el adaptadorde la cuchiiiaen busca de rajaduras,especialmente cuandogolpee un objeto extra_o. Realice los reemplazosque resulten necesarios. Siga los pasosque aparecen debajo para realizar elmantenimiento de la cuchilla.

1. Desconecteel capuch6n del cable de la bujia. Gire lacortadora de cespedsobre ei costado y compruebe que el filtro de airey el carburadorqueden mirando haciaarriba.

2. Saqueel perno y el soportede campana de ia cuchiiia que sostienen la cuchilla y el adaptador de la mismaal cigQe_aidel motor.Vea la Figura 17.

3. Saquela cuchillay el adaptador delcigQe_ai.

4. Saqueia cuchiliadel adaptador para comprobar el equilibrio. Balanceela cuchilla sobre un destornilladorde eje redondopara inspeccionarla.Saque metal dei iado pesado hastaque quede bien

equilibrada.Cuandoafile la cuchilla, siga el a.ngulooriginal de la muelacomo guia.Afile cada horde decorte pot igual para mantener

el balance de la cuchilla.

5. Lubriqueel cigQehaidei motor y ia superficieinterna del adaptador de ia cuchilla conaceite iigero. Desliceel adaptadorde la cuchilla sobre el cigQe_aldel motor. Instale ia cuchiiia enei adaptador con el lado marcado "Bottom" (inferior)(o con el numerode parte) hacia eipiso cuando iacortadora de cespedesta.en posici6n de funcionamiento.AsegQreseque la cuchilla quede aiineaday asentadaen ias bridasdel adaptador.

6. Coloqueel soportede campana de la cuchilla en ia misma. Aiinee las muescas del soportede campana de la cuchillacon los orificios peque_osde la cuchilla.

7. Vuelvaa colocar el pemo hexagonaly ajQstelosegQnlos siguientes valoresde torsi6n: 450 Ib-pulgcomo minimo,600 Ib-pulg como

ma.ximo.

Paragarantizar ia operaci6n segura de la cortadora de cesped, revise periddicamenteel perno de la cuchilla paradeterminar siesta, bien ajustado.

Nunca almacenela cortadora de cesped con combustible en el tanque en unespacio cerrado o en a.reascon pocaventilaci6n,donde los gases deicombustible puedan alcanzar el fuego, chispaso una luz

pilotocomo ia que tienen algunos homos, calentadores de agua, secadores de ropa o aigQnottodispositivo a gas.

2. Mientrasel motorestodavfacaliente,cambioel petr61eo.

3. Limpieel motordeescombrossuperficiales.

Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)

Ei Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cuai se certifica que el motor cumpie con ias reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado del mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper- aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categonas:

Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor. Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor. Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor. Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde arras se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por aSo. Por Io tanto, el Periodo de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia sena equivaiente aentre 10 y 12 aSos. Laciasificaci6n de aire es un nQmero calculado para describir el nivel relativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.

Cuanto menor sea la clasificaci6n de aire, mayor es la limpieza del motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma grAfica en la etiqueta de emisiones.

Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas de

emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor

Despu6s del 1 de julio de 2000 se certificarA que determinados motores Sears Brands Management Corporation cumplen con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambientai de los Estados Unidos (USEPA).
