Ø Introduction

The key features of the Compex 8 Port Dual Speed Fast Ethernet Switch
(PS2208A) are as follows:

♦ Provides high-speed switching between 10Base-T Ethernet segments as well as

100Base-TX Fast Ethernet segments.

♦ Supports 10Base-T to 100Base-TX connectivity, allowing for progressive

migration from 10Base-T to 100Base-TX technology.

♦ Provides high throughput because Switches route data packets to destination port

instead of broadcasting them to all ports. Alleviates congestion for applications
with high-bandwidth requirements such as multimedia applications and large file
transfers.

♦ All ports support full auto-negotiation for 10Mbps and 100Mbps speed and half

or full duplex mode connection. Thus, switching between 100Base-TX and
10Base-T networks does not require any manual configuration.

♦ Implemented store-and-forward switching scheme prevents the propagation of

erroneous packets.

♦ Provides a dynamic memory sharing in/out buffer to ensure fast error free packet

storage and transmission, which greatly improves your network performance.

Ø Installation of PS2208A

PS2208A can be installed on a flat surface (desktop) or mounted on a wall. Follow
the steps below for proper installation.

Desktop Installation:

1. Unpack the hub.

2. Choose a location near the devices to be connected and close to an electrical outlet.

3. Set the hub on a desktop or any other clean, smooth, level and sturdy surface.

Make sure there is enough clearance around the unit to allow attachment of
network cables, power adapter and allow air circulation.

4. Connect the power adapter to the hub. The POWER LED and PORT LED for

each connected port should light up.

5. The hub is ready to operate.

Wall Installation:

1. Measure the distance between the mounting holes at the bottom of the hub and

mark the wall to match the location of the mounting holes on the hub.

2. Drill pilot holes at the two marked locations.

3. Fix two 5/16-inch diameters flat-head mounting screws into the wall, with the

heads of the screws protruded 1/8 inch out from the wall.

4. Carefully set the hub over the screws in the wall; then slide the hub down onto the

screws, pressing it slight to the wall.

5. Connect the power adapter to the hub. The POWER LED and PORT LED for

each connected port should light up.

6. The hub is ready to operate.

Ø Troubleshooting

LED Indicators: The Compex Pocket Switch PS2208A is designed with LED
indicators to indicate the operating status such as: Power ON/OFF, Activity/Link
Status and 10/100Mbps connection status. The LEDs function as useful
troubleshooting aids and are found on the front panel of the PS2208A.

LED indicator Description of Function

Power Green LED.

If Power LED does not come ON, check that:
♦ Power adapter unit and cord are properly inserted into

the socket and hub.

Port Red LED for 10M connection;

Green LED for 100M connection:

When LED does not turn ON, check that:

♦ Wire pair connections at RJ-45 plug are correct.
♦ RJ-45 plug is fully inserted until you hear a click

sound.

♦ The PC is powered-up.
