Product Descripti o n

VAX 7000 Enterprise Se rve rs a re pa rt of a fa mily of OpenVMS based systems designed for the rigorous demands of data c ent e r com put ing. T he y have a modular platform which e na ble s users to im prove pe rform anc e in a num ber of different dimensions— symmetric multiprocessing, larger memory, more I/O bandwidth, gre a t e r di sk c a pa c i t y, a nd Ope n VMS Cl ust e r syst e ms. VAX 7000 servers support additional I/O controllers, storage, user licenses, database software.
With up to 6 CPUs in a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) configuration and up to 400 Mbytes/second of I/O, a si ngl e VAX 7000 syst e m offe rs t he powe rful features nee de d i n da t a c e nt er systems. VAX 7000 syste m s i n Ope n VMS Cl ust e r configurations provide support for as much a s 10 te rabyt e s of storage.
An optional N+1 redundant power system allows for higher system availability in the event of a power regul a tor fa i lure . System s can be c onfigure d wit h up to three power regulators. Opti onal system le ve l Unint e rrupta ble Power Supplie s (UPS) are available to support CPU and I/O expansion c a bi net s.
The VAX 7000 Enterpri se Se rve r provi de s subst ant i a l I/ O c a pa c i t y, one 12-sl ot XMI I/O channel is standard, with the opti on of a dding up t o thre e a ddit iona l 12-slot XMI I/O channels. XMI I/O channels offer a bandwidt h of 100 Mbytes/second each, making this system capable of providing very high I/O bandwidth performance—up to 400 Mbyte s/sec ond.
XMI devices supported include adapt e rs for Ethe rne t, CI, FDDI, and DSSI interconnects. Support for up t o sixte en E t herne t ada pt ers, te n CI a dapt e rs, twelve DSSI adapters, and eight FDDI adapters demonstrates the large expansion potential of these systems. StorageWorks controllers enable SCSI-2 devices to provide reli a ble hi gh-end stora ge on the CI bus.
Enterprise Expansion Package s ma y be orde re d with a singl e pa rt numbe r t o provide the hardware and licensing necessary to start an OpenVMS Cluster or add another node to an exi sti ng cl uste r.
