ongratulations on your purchase of the Nova III. The Nova III offers a wide array of innovative features, yet it is wonderfully user-friendly.
C
Commanding it is no more difficult than pressing a button on the keychain remote control. Take a few minutes to review the Nova III’s features. You will undoubtedly find that in addition to providing you and your vehicle exceptional security, it will also add to your lifestyle convenience.
The Remote Control
Your dual-button/triple-channel keychain remote control is a sophisticated radio transmitter that sends a unique digital code across a typical range of up to 100 feet. Nova III can accept up to 4 different Clifford remote controls. Certain factors — such as obstructions, weather conditions or a weak remote control battery — may effect the range.
How to Disarm the System with the Remote Control
1. Press remote control button I. Several actions will confirm remote disarming:
The siren will chirp once (unless the chirps are muted, see below)
The parking lights will flash once
The doors will unlock
The LED indicator inside your car will turn off
2. Release the button as soon as you observe any of the above.
3. You may now enter the vehicle.
How to Arm the System with the Remote Control
1. Press remote control button I. Several actions will confirm remote arming:
The siren will chirp
The parking lights will flash
twice
(unless the chirps are muted, see below)
twice
The doors will lock
The LED indicator inside your car will flash continuously
The windows and/or sunroof will close (if equipped with the optional
SmartWindows II accessory)
2. Release the button as soon as you observe any of the above.
How to Silently Arm or Disarm the System with the Remote Control
Whenever you wish, you may remotely arm or disarm your Nova III without the normal chirp indications. This is particularly useful when parking late at night in a residential area. To do so is simple: Just simultaneously press both buttons I and II on the remote control. The parking lights will provide confirmation of disarming or arming with one or two flashes, respectively.

How to Panic the System with the Remote Control
As an added safety measure, the system was designed to respond if you ever face harassment and are within transmittal range of the vehicle. Simply press button I continuously for 3 seconds. The parking lights will flash and the siren will sound for your choice of 30 or 60 seconds (see How to Set User-Selectable Features on pages 9-10), calling attention from passersby.
Remote Control Low Voltage Warning
A miniature 12-volt battery powers the remote control. As the battery voltage decreases over time, range will decrease. If the battery voltage gets too low, the remote control LED will flash dimly or not at all. Get a new battery as soon as possible from your local Authorized Clifford Dealer or call the Clifford Customer Service Department at (800) 824-3208.
Remote Control of Optional Accessories
Button II on the remote control is your lifestyle convenience button: It may optionally command an IntelliStart remote engine starter, the remote rolldown/venting feature of SmartWindows II, NightVision’s remote headlight activation feature, the trunk release or your home’s electric garage door.
Valet Mode
Whenever your car is to be serviced, washed or valet parked, you
must
use
the valet mode in order to prevent unintentional activation of the alarm.
How to Enable Valet Mode
1. Insert your key and turn the
ignition
to the ON position.
2. Flip the valet/program switch. The LED inside your vehicle will turn on, confirming the system is in valet mode.
3. You may now turn the ignition off and remove your key.
NOTE: If you temporarily lose the use of your remote control, you can disarm the system by enabling valet mode.
NOTE: Even in valet mode, you may still use the remote control to lock or unlock the doors and/or activate a remote controlled accessory.
How to Exit Valet Mode
1. Insert your key and turn the ignition to the ON position.
2. Flip the valet/program switch. The LED inside your vehicle will turn off, confirming the system is in normal operating mode.

Triple-Mode Chirp Muting
If and when you desire, you may silence the chirp confirmations, allowing for only silent, parking light arm/disarm confirmation (of course, if an intrusion attempt occurs, the siren will sound its 125dB wail). You have three chirp muting choices:
Long-Term Chirp Silencing: You may disable the chirps until you wish to
restore them. To do so, see
How to Set User-Selectable Features
on pages 9-10.
One-Cycle Chirp Muting: You may disable the chirps for only one arm-and-
disarm cycle, after which the chirps are automatically restored. To do so, simply turn the vehicle’s ignition switch “ON” and “OFF” rapidly. When you next arm, and later disarm, the chirps will be silenced.
On-the-Go Remote Chirp Muting: You may silently arm or disarm the
alarm with the remote control on-the-go and without any prior preparation by simultaneously pressing buttons I and II of the remote control.
Enhanced AutoArming™
If you forget to remotely arm Nova III, it will arm itself automatically 30 seconds after the vehicle doors are closed. If you re-open any door(s) within the 30-second countdown, AutoArming will restart from the beginning once all doors are closed. This ensures you’ll never accidentally leave your vehicle unprotected. Nova III includes all these Enhanced AutoArming features:
AutoArming Enable/Disable: If you prefer, you may, at any time, deactivate
or reactivate AutoArming. To do, see How to Set User-Selectable Features on pages 9-10.
Visual Acknowledgement: Five seconds after you exit the vehicle and close
all the doors, the parking lights will flash twice to confirm that the AutoArming countdown is progressing. Then, 25 seconds later, the system will AutoArm.
AutoArm & Lock: To ensure you can’t accidently lock your keys inside the
car, your Nova III is factory-set not to lock the doors upon AutoArming. To change this setting, see How to Set User-Selectable Features on pages 9-10.
NOTE: To prevent AutoArming of the system when fueling the vehicle, either enable valet mode or leave one of the doors open (the system AutoArms 30 seconds after all doors are closed).
What to Do If You Inadvertently Cause the Alarm to Sound
If you unintentionally alarm the system, just press button I on your remote control or enable valet mode to disarm the system.

Smart AutoTesting™
In the rare event of a trigger or sensor malfunction, your Nova III will alert you of the problem and will store the identity of the specific malfunctioning point in its built-in, non-volatile memory. Here’s how it works: Arm the alarm with the remote control. If the system detects a malfunctioning trigger, you will immediately hear
chirps and see
four
parking light flashes instead
four
of the usual 2 chirps/2 flashes. If a sensor malfunction is detected, the system will issue the usual 2 chirps and 2 flashes, then, 5 seconds later, it will emit 4 chirps and 4 flashes.
NOTE: Since this is a warning indication, you will hear the 4-chirp signal even if you are using the chirp muting feature.
Malfunction AutoBypass™
Once the Smart AutoTesting feature identifies a trigger or sensor malfunction and records it in its built-in, non-volatile memory, your Nova III will instantly override the defect and arm all other points. Your vehicle will never be without some measure of protection. You should, as soon as possible, take your vehicle to your Authorized Clifford Dealer for servicing.
TotalRecall™ of Last Activated Trigger or Sensor
The Nova III’s non-volatile memory automatically stores the last trigger or sensor activated, thereby providing an invaluable diagnostics means. To recall the identity of the last activated trigger or sensor, use the following procedure:
1. Disarm your Nova III with button I on the remote control.
2. With the ignition OFF, flick the valet/programming switch.
3. Press button I until you hear 2 chirps, release, then press button I again until you hear 1 chirp. The LED status indicator will blink 1 - 3 times, pause, then repeat the blink cycle four more times. Count the number of blinks per cycle and refer to the table below:
LED Blinks System Component that Malfunctioned
1 blink Magnetic Resonance Sensor or optional sensor(s) 2 blinks Door trigger 3 blinks Hood or trunk trigger
Your Nova III will hold this information in its non-volatile memory indefinitely or until there is a subsequent activation.
4
Page 6
Tampering Warning™
Normally, Nova III immediately sounds its siren at the first inkling of an intrusion attempt. However, you may set the system to issue a rapid five-chirp warning whenever Nova III detects tampering to the exterior of your vehicle. If there is any further tampering within the next 30 seconds, or if a door, the hood or trunk is opened at any time, your Nova III will sound a continuous 125dB siren blast. To select the mode of your choice, see How to Set User-
Selectable Features
NOTE: Turning on the Tampering Warning feature overrides the FACT feature, and vice-versa.
on pages 9-10.
FACT™— False Alarm Control and Test
With FACT, you’ll never experience repeated false alarms. If your siren goes off, DO NOT remotely disarm the system; allow it to run for the full 30-second or 60-second siren duration, depending on which siren duration you have set (to select siren duration, see How to Set User-Selectable Features on pages 9-10). Your Nova III automatically checks for another activated trigger before sounding the siren a second time. Should the siren sound again, you will know for sure that someone is tampering with your vehicle.
What Do the Chirps and Flashes Mean?
When you remotely arm or disarm the system, the siren will chirp (unless you have the chirps muted, see
Triple-Mode Chirp Muting
on page 5) and the parking
lights will flash. The table below explains the meaning of the chirp/flash signals:
Chirps/Flashes System Status
1 chirp/1 flash System has been disarmed by remote. 2 chirps/2 flashes System has been armed by remote. 3 chirps/3 flashes System has been disarmed by remote, but the alarm
sounded while you were away.
4 chirps/4 flashes immediately upon remote arming
4 chirps/4 flashes seconds after remote arming
System has been armed by remote, but the hood and/or trunk trigger is open. The system is armed and the hood/trunk trigger is automatically bypassed.
System has been armed by remote, but the sensor is

AutoLock™ and AutoUnLock™
For additional safety, AutoLock automatically locks all of your vehicle’s doors when you start the engine. Conversely, AutoUnLock unlocks the doors for you and your passengers when you turn the ignition off. To deactivate (or reactivate) this feature, see How to Set User-Selectable Features on pages 9-10.
Smart Prior Intrusion Attempt Alert
If the alarm was activated while you were away, when you disarm with the remote control your Nova III will issue three chirps and three parking light flashes instead of the usual one chirp/one flash.
NOTE: Since this is a warning indication, you will hear the 3-chirp signal even if you are using the chirp muting feature.
When you enter your vehicle, the LED status indicator will be blinking 1-3 times, pause, then repeat the blink cycle four more times to indicate the trigger/sensor that detected the intrusion attempt. Count the number of blinks per cycle and refer to the table below:
LED Blinks Trigger/Sensor that Detected the Intrusion Attempt
1 blink Magnetic Resonance Sensor or optional sensor(s) 2 blinks Door trigger 3 blinks Hood or trunk trigger
LED Status Indicator
The LED status indicator on your vehicle’s dashboard or console is used to communicate the operational condition of your system:
LED Indication System Status
Off System is disarmed, you may enter the vehicle On Valet or programming mode Flashing System is armed and protecting your vehicle Blinking in cy-
cles of 1-3 blinks
Prior Intrusion Attempt Alert identification of a tripped trigger or sensor (see above), or TotalRecall of a trigger or sensor malfunction (see page 6).
