products, his committed dedication and emotion means his soul

1978, the year of real breakthrough, the year clearaudio’s
Moving-Coil Cartridges were introduced to the world with their
innovative and unique symmetrical generator design. Hand­crafted in Erlangen, Germany – clearaudio products are re­garded as innovative, true quality and of setting the highest
standards by hi-fi specialists and top class engineers alike.

Based on this philosophy clearaudio has been setting new
standards in the analogue reproduction of music for more than
25 years. You will find clearaudio in more than 70 countries
worldwide with a fully comprehensive range of high end phono
cartridges, tonearms and turntables, phono preamplifiers,

Anniversary

The 25thJubilee Edition is a document of clearaudio’s continuing
love of music. This meant to us ‘To do something new, some­thing in this model not done before!’ For the first time we used
the very hardest, bullet-proof, 72-layer plywood. By using this in
combination with stainless steel, aluminium and acrylic we
almost entirely eliminated resonant effects. A real heavyweight
of 26kg with a 70mm platter and absolute perfection in finis­hing, the combination of these materials will astonish your ears
and seduce your eyes. Really worthy to be our – Anniversary –
and named thus, when we conceived the Anniversary we decided:
‘let’s do it’, you can see and hear that we did.

these high values. This combination is the result of a 8kg chassis
and the 40mm platter. With two 20mm acrylic chassis plates and

Consequently we have three categories of tonearms: Uni-pivot­designs, radial-designs, tangential designs. They all have remarka­ble features to reach the topclass of artwork and craftmanship.
Well thought over and deep knowledge with respect to both,
musical and technical processing will bring out a character that is
able to do the things you will see on the following pages. Take a
look to the beginning of producing your vinyl. Master cuts have no
radial cutting technicque, never radial influences.

So you must try to have same conditions in cutting and following
production of vinyl. To minimize the differences between cutting
of the master and the production of the vinyl we decided to opti­mize tangential tonearms. Following to this demand we patented
the mechanical principle.

Back to the basics with passionate enthusiasm is our offer to your
undisturbed hearing of musical emotions.

Tangential tonearms

Master TQ-I

So as to never ever compromise the beginning of the signal
path we favour the tangential tonearm design. The application
of our experience, machining, artwork and engineering has tur­ned this decision into a Master Class of tonearm design.

The original Souther TQ-I was an iconoclastic instrument of this
principle. We agreed and accepted this but wanted to make a
revolutionary new product improving all of the aspects of the
basic product. We are very proud to introduce this state-of-the­art tonearm as the MASTER TQ-I for the ultimate music lover
who wants nothing but the very best. Whatever was possible to
improve, we did.

The end result is a masterpiece, its massive construction uses
only the very best materials and it’s wiring consists of one
unbroken length our own Superwire, leading from the cartridge
tags to the phono-preamp.
This ensures no losses of even the smallest signal
at the critical beginning of its path, and no loss in
transportation along clearaudio’s best cables and
connectors to bring you all the music.

TQ-I

A little bit smaller in appearance but designed to the same prin­ciple we offer the TQ-I. Conceptually both the father and son of
the Master-TQ-I, in constructional details the TQ-I contains no
active drive elements; no added air compressors or servo regu­lators. All these additional ideas are no help because they pro­duce destructive noise and other problems. The TQ-I is a wort­hy partner for the very best cartridges available worldwide.
Absolutely undisturbed reproduction of our beloved vinyl is
now possible.
Transporting the finest signals through clearaudio Superwire,
our very best cable to the clearaudio anti-magnetic gold-plated
RCA connectors is a significant consequence of our no com­promise engineering.

All our Moving Coil cartridges have the additional features:

New levels of detail and an unbelievable dynamic range of up to
100dB are amongst the results of our trailblazing and sophisticated
research. Only a procedure implemented regardless of cost and
time makes the clearaudio patented symmetrical generator design
possible. Music appears real to your ears with a dynamic range,
detail and precision unheard elsewhere. As a leader in the world

A clear breakthrough in analogue music reproduction has been
achieved with our new MC-cartridge generation. The new gener­ation is able to read a dynamic range of up to 100dB with a
frequency response of 10Hz up to 100kHz. The following meas
urement (see page 33): a trackability test at 80 microns proves the
100dB dynamic range. The peak level (blue graph) in relation to
the record noise (green graph) clearly shows a dynamic range of
100dB.

As well we have proven in our laboratories that modern vinyl
records can produce highest dynamic levels. You can imagine the
enormous headroom without distortion, in this parameter digital
sources are consequently again surpassed.

Moving Coil cartridges

Goldfinger

You may call us irrespective when we conflict with the
commonly accepted laws of audio physics. However, it is based
on this kind of research and development that we can offer the
‘Goldfinger’ to you with the awesome, unbelievable dynamic
range of 100dB. A radical new design of the magnetic circuit,
achieved by doubling the magnets up to eight pieces and by
using the most powerful magnet materials currently available,
assist us in reaching this new level of standart.

This ground-breaking technology is incorporated to a body
fashioned from 16 grams of pure gold, carefully polished by the
hands of master craftsmen we realised this work of art as a
whole masterpiece in technique and linear transparency.
Internally, the completely symmetrical generator system is
adorned with pure 24ct. gold coils and the new developed
0,00016 grams HD-diamond tip completes ‘Goldfinger’, mak­ing it the pinnacle of our achievement.

named Titanium. The massive Titanium body of 9 grams elimina­tesresonances to make 95 dB dynamics possible. The promise

Moving Coil Cartridges

Stradivari

Stradivari is synonymous with the absolute master class of cre­ating musical instruments. Our moving-coil cartridge named
after the maestrissimo allows a 90dB dynamic range from vinyl.
Long-stored old ebony wood provides both resistance against
resonances and an excellent well-balanced sound.

Concerto

All the design aspects of Goldfinger, Titanium and Stradivari are
found in the Concerto the entry-level into our New-Generation­Super class of moving coil cartridges. The resonance optimized
body shape and a body material of satiné wood, contribute
toward an excellent performance in the baby of the super

true reference status. It has taken years of tireless research and
compulsive passion to realise the full potential of this compo­nent.

separated massive cases, fully symmetrical design of the circuit
layouts and power supplies, highlighted by a stepped attenuated
regulation, designed to drive your power amp directly in 3dB
steps.

Phono Preamplifiers

Balance

Truly balanced and carefully designed with fully independent
channels, all parts are assembled in a massive aluminium block
to keep free from resonances. The separate, externally housed
power supplies assure exactly identical voltages to the Balance
phono stage.

Symphono

Immaculate signal to noise ratio and absolute transparency
were realised in the Symphono. The external power supply is
carefully stabilised eliminating cross-talk-effects.

Basic Symmetry

Fully symmetrical input circuit design and balanced phono
cartridge input through a jack in the middle between the RCA
plugs is a special feature of this preamp. It automatically mat­ches with the impedance of the moving coil cartridge.

Basic Limited

The Basic Limited is a limited edition of 1000 pieces containing
the finest op-amps. This raises signal to noise ratios into the top
class. The Basic Limited matches moving magnet as well as
moving coil cartridges via switch on the bottom side.

Basic +

Simple to use yet full of features, this unit matches moving
magnet as well as moving coil cartridges via switch on the
bottom side. It also automatically matches impedance of the
cartridge used. A winner and reference unit in its class.

Accurate Power Generator

The clearaudio APG controls and improves any source equip­ment such as preamps, tuners and CD players with a constant
fully regulated power supply with adjustable frequency up to
95Hz. Of course its primary use is as a turntable power supply
where it will supply clean power for the synchronous motor
drive unit and offer fine speed adjustment. In addition it allows
speed selection between 33 1/3 and 45 at the flick of a switch.
Not being just a simple power supply the clearaudio APG actu­ally generates the correct distortion free frequency so that you
will hear music with more authentic impact, clarity and
freedom.

Location / the team

How to realise all these opinions you read in our brochure? Our
location in Erlangen has a very long lasting tradition both in
science and research. Erlangen is home to the well-known
university, the Fraunhofer institute, as well as the Max-Planck­Institute and the Siemens research centre. All these highly
acclaimed institutes are working hard in their research of new
technologies. Alongside these institutes clearaudio engineers
and specialists are researching scientifically ways to reach higher
standards for the enjoyment of human life.

This goal cannot be reached purely by science. Scientific research
is a path. You need also love to the detail, aesthetics, creativity
and of course, the human being. We are an innovative team
with our spirit inspired by music, science and emotion. The pursu­it of perfection drives our activity. The love of music is our ener­gy.

Product development / Innovation

One day we decided to have a complete range of all the
necessary things in the reproduction of analogue music. It’s one
of our ethical decisions to form a company with production
independent from the common market, other manufacturers
and their trends. Nearly every part is made in our factory
at Erlangen. This requires us to have our own engineers, art
workers and production methods, enabling us to produce a
range from the cartridges to the vinyl-cleaning machines. All
this is done with the same innovative design and visionary energy
needed to continually listen to, test and measure our results both
acoustically and technically before moving on to producing a
constant quality in series production.

For our whole product range we had to design new meas­urement techniques and equipment to our standards, high
above the average. Consequently we are able to offer one of the
best reference quality phono-stages ever, all produced in our
factory. Be assured that we are continually doing all that is
possible to surpass the standards, not to overhaul old techniques
and follow trends. For every component designed by clearaudio
we guarantee you top-class high-end quality that is built to last.
