ENGLISH
Congratulations on your purchase of the Clarion XC660DSP System Integration processor. The XC660DSP was designed in the United States to offer sound quality that exceeds that of many processors costing signifi cantly more money.
When installed and confi gured properly, the XC660DSP will bring a new level of realism and impact to your mobile entertainment system. To get the best performance from your XC660DSP, Clarion recommends that you have this processor installed and confi gured by an experienced professional.
XC-TUNE SOFTWARE AND DSP SETUP
The XC660DSP was designed to provide the highest possible performance from your mobile entertainment system. In order to maximize the processor’s ability to produce a stable and accurate sound-stage, all controls for the amplifi er have been integrated into the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) circuitry. There are NO analog controls on this processor.
A personal computer (Laptop, Netbook or Tablet) running a Windows operating system (Version 7, 8 or 10) with a USB 2.0 port is required to set up the XC660DSP using the XCTune software suite. The use of an Apple- or Linux-based computer running Windows in any kind of emulator mode (BootCamp, Virtual Machine, Parallels, etc) is not supported.
Computers connected to the XC660DSP should ideally be battery powered. The potential for ground loops from 12V Inverters or external power sources can lead to damage. If you aren’t 100% sure, please operate the computer from battery power alone. Damage caused by improper communication with the XC660DSP is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
The XC-Tune Operators Manual can be found at: www.clarion.com/ca/ on the XC660DSP product page.

USB Connection Port
When connecting your Windows (7, 8 or 10) Laptop or Tablet computer to the processor for tuning, please connect the included 6 foot USB cable to this port. It is recommended to power the tuning computer from a battery source to completely eliminate the chance of a ground loop on this connection. If you require more cable length, purchase a longer cable. Do not use an extension. Use as short a cable as possible for maximum reliability.
TRI-ON Auto Sensing Turn-On Control Switch
The XC660DSP features an automatic turn-on circuit called TRI-ON that will activate the processor without the need for a connection to the REM terminal. The switch has three positions - SIG, REM and DC.
SIG - Signal Detect Mode
In this setting, the processor will monitor Channel 1 input for the presence of an audio signal. The signal needs to be moderately loud in order for the XC660DSP to activate. NOTE: in some applications,if a speaker is still connected to the wires on this input, the voltage produced from speakers moving when a door is closed may be adequate to trick the amp to turn on. This is the least desirable setting.
REM - Remote Turn-On Connection Mode
In this mode, the processor will turn on when a 12V signal is connected to the REM terminal. This is the preferred method of turning on the XC66DSP.
DC - DC Offset Detection Mode
In this mode, the processor will monitor Channel 1 input for the DC offset voltage produced by a BTL type amplifi er. To check for the presence of BTL, you can monitor the DC voltage on the speaker wires of the signal source. When you turn on the source, you should see 5-6 Volts DC (or more) on the wires. The presence of this DC voltage will activate the XC660DSP.
Power and Control Connector
12V Power Connection
This connection must have a constant 12V power source. You can connect this to the battery, source unit or amplifi er constant power terminals. A 1 Amp fuse should be installed on this wire.
Ground Connection
This connection must be connected to a good audio system ground location. The ground connection of your radio or amplifi er is recommended.
Remote Out Connection
This connection provides a 12v, 0.5 Amp output when the XC660DSP is activated. The turn-on and turn-off delay are adjustable in the XC-Tune software
Remote Input Connection
The connection is used to turn on the XC660DSP when the Tri-On switch is in the REM setting
Profi le 1 and Profi le 2
You can switch system presets using the Profi le 1 and Profi le 2 terminals. When neither connection is connected, the system will use Preset 1, or whatever preset you last used with your tuning computer connected. When a ground signal is present on the Profi le 1

connection, preset 2 will be loaded. When the Profi le 2 terminal is grounded, Preset 3 will be selected. Finally, when both Profi le 1 and Profi le 2 are grounded, Preset 4 will be selected. Audio will mute for a second or two while the settings are changed between Presets.

SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT ADAPTERS
The RCA Input connections should be connected to the RCA Pre-amp outputs of an aftermarket head unit. If you are using a head unit or amplifi er that only has speaker level outputs, please use the high-level input adapters that are included with the processor. Please wire them according to the adjacent image. Note, there are components in these connectors used to attenuate the signal. Do not substitute conventional RCA terminals for these adapters or damage will occur. Damage from over-driving the input stage of the XC660DSP is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
NOTE: When connecting to the output of a factory amplifi er, you may need to install load resistors on the amplifi er outputs to compensate for the output fi ltering circuit of the amplifi er. A 50 Ohm, 5 Watt resistor usually works well.
INSTALLATION
1. Once a safe and suitable location has been chosen for your processor, locate and mark the mounting hole locations.
2. Remove the processor and pre-drill the mounting holes.
3. Replace the processor and secure with adequate hardware.
4. If applicable, mount the BC2 remote in the front of the vehicle and run the included wire to the connection on the processor.
5. Make all the power, control and signal to the processor.
6. Complete the remainder of the system installation and fi nish tuning the XC660DSP, amplifi er and system.

SETTING SIGNAL LEVELS
Setting Mixer/Gain Settings in XC-Tune
This adjustment is provided for each channel in order to adjust the processor sensitivity so that it will produce maximum signal-to-noise radio over a given range of input signal voltages. Setting this control correctly will ensure that you get maximum performance from your processor and is critical to ensuring that minimal noise and distortion is produced. Clarion has included a signal VU meter display to show the signal level at four different stages of the processor.
Input - This VU Meter shows the amount of signal present at the RCA connections on the side of the processor. The XC660DSP will accept up to 8 volts of input when using RCA connections, and 20 volts of input when using the speaker level input adapters. If the levels meters are exceeding 0dB threshold, decrease the source level.
Post Mixer - This VU meter shows the signal level relative to adjustments made in the XC-Tune Mixer screen. Summing multiple signal sources together can result in overdriving the DSP processor. If the VU meters exceed the 0dB level, reduce the sensitivity of the associated processor channel. Ideally, you want the signal as high as possible to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio of the processor.
Post EQ - This VU meter shows the signal level relative to adjustments made in the XC-Tune Parametric Equalizer screens. Boosting the signal will result in an increase in voltage and may cause the DSP to overload or distort. If necessary, reduce input signal to the channel in the Mixer Tab to ensure the level does not exceed 0dB.
Output - This VU meter shows the output of the XC660DSP relative to the master volume control and the adjustments on the Output tab. The XC660DSP can produce up to 8 volts on the RCA outputs. This voltage may exceed the input capability of your amplifi ers, so please ensure you adjust the output level of the processor and the input level of your amplifi er to produce maximum output.
Note on Amplifi er Sensitivity Settings
Because most applications of the XC660DSP will include equalization, observe the frequency of the peak amplitude for each channel on the Response Plot on the XC660DSP software. Use an oscilloscope and a sine wave at this peak frequency to accurately adjust the sensitivity controls on your amplifi er(s).
