Catalyst 10/100Base-T Ethernet Hub Installation Guide
This installation guide explains how to replace an existing 10Base-T ethernet hub with a 10/100Base-T ethernet hub. It contains the following sections:
Pre-Installation Software Commands
Removing Hardware
Installing 10/100Base-T Hub Hardware
Final Installation Steps
The 10/100Base-T ethernet hub provides a communication link between the test and user computers, and between the test system and an external network. The new hub has two major advantages over 10Base-T systems. The first is that the test system no longer needs to occupy its own subnet on a customer’s network. The second is that the 10/100Base-T hub filters out network traffic not destined for the test or user computers. This isolates the test system from routine network traffic, permitting private communication between the test and user computers.
The 10/100Base-T ethernet hub acts as a gateway between the test system and the user’s network. The 10/100Base-T hub contains two network segments. One is internal, permitting the test and user computers to communicate at 100 Mbit/second. The other connects the test system to the customer’s network, and may be manually switched to operate at either 10 Mbit/second or 100 Mbit/second.

The following is a high-level list of steps for removing the 10Base-T ethernet hub and installing the 10/100Base-T ethernet hub.
1) Using the necessary software commands, prepare the test system for hardware installation.
2) Halt the computer and turn the system off.
3) Remove the service side test system covers.
4) Detach the AD958 user power panel sitting in front of the module mounting cage.
5) Disconnect all cables from the 10Base-T ethernet hub.
6) Remove the 10Base-T ethernet hub.
7) Install the 10/100Base-T ethernet hub.
8) Reconnect cables.
9) Reattach the AD958 user power panel.
10) Replace the test system covers.
11) Turn on main and test system power.
12) Verify hardware installation.
13) Run checkers.

Pre-Installation Software Commands
Follow these software instructions before installing the 10/100Base-T ethernet hub.
1) While in IMAGE, type halt_tst and confirm by typing Y
2) Login as root
3) Type csh
4) Type source/image/common/.login
5) Type cd/etc
6) For SPARC5 type:
rm hostname.le0
vi hostname.hme0
Change hostname-gate to hostname
Example: for hostname.hme0, file was bay5-gate. Change to bay5
7) For Ultra 1 type rm hostname.hme1
8) Type vi hosts and remove the line listing gateway IP and name. For example, remove 131.101.175.161 bay8-gate
9) Type cd
If changing IP addresses, continue with step 10. Otherwise, skip to step 12.
10) Type /image/bin.rls/custom/change_sys_name
11) Run change_sys_name script and change IP addresses.
12) Type tip hardwire and press Return after display reads connected.
13) Login to test computer as root
14) Type cd/etc
15) Type mv hostname.le0 hostname.hme0
16) Type ~#
17) At the OK prompt, type setenv boot-device net2
This is necessary because the 10Base-T ethernet connection to port 1 on the test computer moves to port 2 for 100Base-T operation.
18) Open new command tool window.
19) Login as root
20) Type cd/var/yp; /usr/ccs/bin/make
21) Type halt_sys
22) Shut the test system down and perform the hardware upgrade.

Removing Hardware
The following steps explain how to remove a 10Base-T hub and associated hardware from a Catalyst test system.
1) Remove the external network cable (pn 804-183-00) connecting the second optional ethernet board in the user computer to the external network.
Note
Discard the existing 804-183-00 cable and install the replacement 804-183-00 included in the upgrade kit. The existing cable will not support 100Base-T operation.
2) Remove the center test system cover by releasing the two quarter-turn fasteners in the middle of the cover (service side). Then lift the cover away from the mainframe.
3) Remove the test system cover on the left side of the service side by releasing the quarter-turn fastener at the lower left side of the cover. Then lift the cover away from the mainframe.
4) Detach the AD958 user power panel mounted in front of the option space by loosening the two screws holding the power panel to the mainframe. The upper screw is captive and the lower is conventional. See [A] and [B] in AD958 Detail
.
Carefully pull the power panel away from the option space and tie-wrap the AD958 and cables to the mainframe to reduce strain.

5) Disconnect the two 10Base-T hub cables (pn 804-182-00 and pn 804-182-01) and the AC power cable from the10Base-T hub. Coil the cables and leave them in the options bay.
6) Remove power cables from the IEEE bus expander. Coil the cables and leave them in the options bay.
7) Slide the IEEE/10Base-T hub mounting plate out of the options bay.
8) Remove the IEEE bus extender (if present) from the IEEE/10Base-T hub mounting plate by loosening the captive screw attaching the bus extender to the mounting plate.
9) Remove the ethernet hub/IEEE mounting plate by removing the four screws securing it to the mainframe.

Installing 10/100Base-T Hub Hardware
The following steps describe how to install a 10/100Base-T ethernet hub.
1) Attach the IEEE bus extender (if present) to the new mounting plate (pn 467-533-00).
2) Insert the new mounting plate assembly (pn 806-833-00) into the mainframe.
To facilitate cable connections to the 10/100Base-T hub and IEEE bus, tighten the mounting plate assembly screws after attaching cables.

Installing 10/100Base-T Cabling
This section explains how to install the 10/100Base-T hub cables.
1) Connect the existing power cord to the input connector at the rear of the 10/100Base-T hub.
2) Connect cable pn 804-182-00 (RJ-45 connector) to hub port 3.
3) Connect cable pn 804-182-01 (RJ-45 connector) to hub port 2.
4) Connect cable pn 804-183-00 (RJ-45 connector) to hub port 8.
5) Move cable pn 804-182-00 from test computer ethernet port 1 to ethernet port 2 (directly above port 1). See 10/100Base-T Hub Cabling
.
If user computer is an Ultra 1, skip to step 7.
6) If user computer is an SS5, detach cable pn 804-182-01 from the primary ethernet port and reconnect it to the secondary ethernet board.
7) Route cable pn 804-183-00 from hub port 8 outside of the mainframe through the cable clamp holding the existing computer cables. These include power, serial and ethernet cables.
8) Plug cable pn 804-183-00 into the external network connection.
