Installing the Battery
You must install and charge the battery before you
can use the Cis co Wireles s IP P hone 792 0. To install
or remove the battery, follow these steps.
1.To install the battery, insert the battery catches
(as shown in Figure 1-1) in the c orrespondi ng
slots at the bott om of th e Cisco Wireles s
IP Phone 79 20. Ma ke sure that the metal
contacts on the battery and the phone are facing
each other.
2.Press the battery to the body of the phone until it
locks into p lace.
3.To remove the battery, press down on the locking
catch, then l ift and remove th e batt ery.

Charging the Phone Battery
The Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 is powe red by a
rechargeable battery. To charge the battery, follow
these steps:
1.Connect the cable from the power supply to the
outlet in t he phone .
2.Connect the power supply to an AC wall outlet as
shown in Figure 1-2.
If the phone is turned off, the screen displays the
message, “Battery Charging.” When the battery
is charged, “Charging C omplete ” dis plays.
If the phone i s tur ne d on, th e batter y indic ator
bar blinks and disp lays the curr ent po wer le vel.
When the batter y is charged, th e indi cator bar
stops blinking .
3.When the battery is fully charged, disconnect the
charger from the phone, and u nplug the po wer
cord from t he AC w all out let.

standby time.
•The extended batt ery provide s up t o 4.25 hou rs
of active service time or 30 hours of standby time.
The battery becomes fully charged in about 4.5

Powering On the Phone
To turn the phone on, press and hold the key for
two to three se conds . The phone au thenti c ates, th en
associates with a wireless access point, and connects
to the IP tel ephony ne two rk. In a Cis co Light
Extensible Au the nt ication Pr otocol (L EAP )
environment, you might have to set the LEAP
password. See the “Setting t he LE AP Us ername and
Password” section on page 24 for more information.
After connec ting to the net work, the phone di splays
the main screen, as shown in Figure 2-2. The phone is
in standby mode and is ready to place or receive calls.
The signal icon in the upper r ight c orner s hows t he
strength of the si gnal betw een the access point an d
your phone. Y our phone must have an adequate signal
before you can place or receive call s. The icon displays
six vertical bars for a strong signal. If the icon displays
fewer than three bars, the signal is weak.
Tips
•When the phone receives a weak signal, the
phone displays this warning message, “Weak
signal detected” and sends a warning tone or
vibration as speci fied in you r active profile. See
the “Configuring Profiles” section on page 55 for
more information.
•To secure your p hone, yo u can ac tivate a ph one
lock password. See the “ Changing Phon e Ac cess
Settings” section on page 62 for more
information.

The phone menus provide access to phone features
and settings. Wh en you pre ss Menu, the name of th e
first menu displays on your phone screen with a set of
overlapping tabs for t he ot her p hone menus.

the desired menu name, such as Directory . Press Select
(by using ). Use or to scroll between the

When powering on your phone for the first time, you
might need to set your LEAP user name and password.

Conference calling allows from three to sixteen
parties to par ticip ate s imult ane ously in a call. Your
Cisco IP Ph one supports several type s of conference
calls depending on yo ur configu ration. The s oftkeys
identify which methods are avail able on your phone:
•Confr n—To establish standard conferences by
calling each participant. Standard conference
calling is available on most phon es.
•Meet-Me—To host a conferenc e requiring that
participants call an established numbe r at a

•Multiple people share a line —Fo r example, you
are a manager who shares a line and extension
number with your assistant. An incoming c all to

You can personali ze your phone by adjusting phone
settings such as ring tones and screen messages.
You can secure access to your phone by enabling the
phone lock feature. After powering on the phone, you
must enter a pass word befor e th e phone can
authenticate with the wireless network.

changed to defaults so your phone cannot access
the network. Only Phone Book data is prese rved.
