The handheld controller may display unrecognizable characters due to an electrostatic discharge (ESD) event, especially a discharge on the top part where the interface cable is connected. The user should disconnect and reinsert the interface cable from the equipment that is being accessed. This resets the handheld controller so that it may resume its function.
