GENERAL SAFETY RULES
WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS
Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in
electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Work Area
Keep your work area clean and well lit. 1. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence 2.
of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite
the dust or fumes.
Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool. 3. Dis-
tractions can cause you to lose control. Protect others in the work area from debris
such as chips and sparks. Provide barriers or shields as needed.

Electrical Safety
Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and 1.
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. 2. Water entering a power tool
will increase the risk of electric shock.
Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and grounded 3.
in accordance with all codes and ordinances. Never remove the grounding prong
or modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs. Check with a quali-
fied electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded.
If the tools should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low
resistance path to carry electricity away from the user.
Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is wider 4.
than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug
does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a
qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in any
way. Double insulation eliminates the need for the three wire grounded power cord
and grounded power supply system.
Do not abuse the Power Cord. Never use the Power Cord to carry the tools or pull 5.
the Plug from an outlet. Keep the Power Cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges,
or moving parts. Replace damaged Power Cords immediately. Damaged Power
Cords increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked 6.
“W-A” or “W”. These extension cords are rated for outdoor use, and reduce the risk
of electric shock.
Personal Safety
Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a 1.
power tool. Do not use a power tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may
result in serious personal injury.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep 2.
your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
Avoid accidental starting. Be sure the Power Switch is off before plugging in. 3.
Carrying power tools with your finger on the Power Switch, or plugging in power tools
with the Power Switch on, invites accidents.
Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool on. 4. A wrench or
a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 5. Proper footing
and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
Page 3SKU 93188 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. 6. Dust mask, nonskid safety
shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
Tool Use and Care
Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. 1. The correct tool
will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
Do not use the power tool if the Power Switch does not turn it on or off. 2. Any tool
that cannot be controlled with the Power Switch is dangerous and must be replaced.
Disconnect the Power Cord Plug from the power source before making any adjust-3.
ments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. 4. Tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any 5.
other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool
serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. 6.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on
another tool.
Service
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. 1. Service or
maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.
When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions 2.
in the “Inspection, Maintenance, And Cleaning” section of this manual. Use of
unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of
electric shock or injury.

Maintain a safe working environment. 5. Keep the work area well lit. Make sure there
is adequate surrounding workspace. Always keep the work area free of obstructions,
grease, oil, trash, and other debris. Do not use a power tool in areas near flammable
chemicals, dusts, and vapors
Always unplug the Drain Cleaner from its electrical outlet before performing any 6.
inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
Never leave the Drain Cleaner unattended while running. 7. Turn power off if you have
to leave the Drain Cleaner.
Before each use, check all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness. 8. Vibration during
operation may cause these to loosen.
Avoid electrical shock. 9. Do not operate the Drain Cleaner if sitting in standing water,
and if the operator is in standing water. Keep extension cord off the ground and away
from water. Water increases the risk of electric shock.
Always connect the Line Cord to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) pro-10.
tected electrical outlet.
Install this product on a proper surface. 11. Locate on a flat, level, and solid surface
that is capable of supporting the weight of the Drain Cleaner.
Never operate the Drain Cleaner with the belt guard removed. 12. Fingers can get
caught between the drive belt and pulley.
Do not overstress cable. 13. Keep gloved hand on the cable for control when machine is
running. In the course of drain cleaning, if the cable encounters an obstruction, it may
stress the cable and cause the cable to twist, kink, or break. This may result in serious
injury, and damage the equipment or pipes.
Position Drain Cleaner within two feet of drain opening. 14. Greater distances can
result in the cable twisting or kinking.
For safest operation, the Drain Cleaner should be run only by the operator con-15.
trolling the Foot Switch and Cable.
Reversing the Motor direction should only be done when pulling the Cable out 16.
of the pipe, or off an obstruction. Trying to push the Cable down the pipe while in
reverse operation can result in Cable damage. Make sure Drum has stopped turning
before changin the Motor Direction Switch (5).
Keep hands away from the rotating Drum (38a) and Feed Pipe (42a). 17. Do not reach
into Drum unless the Drain Clean power cord is unplugged.
Avoid contact to eyes and skin of any drain cleaners that may have been used to 18.
unclog the drain previous to using the Drain Cleaner. These chemicals can burn
the eyes and skin. They may also damage the Cable.
Be aware of possible damage to drain lines that may result from the discovery 19.
of roots and other obstacles.
