TheFreshAirVentandControllerareinstalledaspartofthehome'sheatingandcoolingsystemtomanage
thequantityoffreshair introducedinto thestructure.

Withtoday'shomesbeingbuilt"tighter"for improvedenergyefficiency,manystatesandprovincesnow
requiremechanicalventilationas partof the buildingcode.Inthesetighthomes,contaminantsincluding
radon,formaldehyde,householdchemicals,smokeandotherodorscanbuildupto levelsthatexceedsafe

thresholds.
TheFreshAirVentsystemcontrollerprovidestheuserwith adjustableflexibilityto preciselysetupand

managefreshairto reduceor dilutethevolumeof "stale" air in thehome- at anaffordablepricepoint.
Thesystemallowsfreshairto beintroducedthroughouttheyear,exceptin extremetemperatureand

humidityconditions.Thecontrollerdoesnotallowthe damperto openwhenoutdoortemperaturesare
aboveIO0°F(38°C),belowO°F(-17°C),orif indoorhumiditylevelsareabove55%,inorderto prevent
conditionsthat wouldhavea negativeimpactoncomfort.

Workingwithyour FreshAirVentDampersystemtheVentilationControllertellswhen,andhowlong,it
shouldoperate.It doesthis throughcontinuousmonitoringofyourindoorhumidity,alongwith theoutdoor
temperature.Itthenoperatesaccordingtothetimersettingsasadjustedto yourpreference,or localcodes
ortheHVACindustryrecognizedASHRAE62.2-2007guidelines.

PleaseNete: TheVentilationControllerwill notworkif the outdoorfreshairintakeventis cloggedwith
debris.Cleanthisregularly.Alsopleasemakesureto notobstructorcloseoffthereturnairgrillesof your
heatingsystemin ordertoprotectyourfurnace.

YourVentilationControlleris installedinthe returnductofyourfurnaceorheatpump.Therearetwo adjustable
settings,thecycle time andtheactualventilationtime withineachcycle.Here'showthisworks.Ifthe
cycletime issetto 2 hoursandthecontrollerknobissetto40minutes,youwill get40minutesofventilation
everytwo hours.

Yourventilationsetting,whichis40minutesevery2hoursinthis example,canbemetbytheoperationof
yourheatingorcoolingsystem.Orif weatherconditionsarecomfortableorthethermostatisonsetback,the
Controlleritselfwill turnonthe furnaceblowerto providethe40minutes.

• YourInstallershouldhavealreadysetthisfor you.Thiswill likelybeatthe recommendedfactorysetting
oftwo hours.

Ifthereisaneedto changethis,consultyourdealer.

Theknobonthefrontof the Controlleris usedtosetthe
ventilationtime withinthecycleintervalsetinStepA.

TheTESTsettingis usedto checkthe deviceforproper

installation.Itisnotfor normaloperation,it will only

activatetheControllerfor 1minute.Donotleavetheknob
atTEST,it doesnotallow actualoperatingtime.

TheOFFsettingcutsoff all circuitactivation,while 0

leavesthe circuitelectricallyactivebut itwill notoperate.
Thedialislabeledin 15minuteincrements,butcanbesetto
anyestimatedvaluewithin 5minuteaccuracy.TheInstaller

will havealreadysetthisfor youaccordingto the sizeand
numberofoccupantsforyourhome.Ifyoufeellikeyouneed
moreorlesstime,turntheknobto a maximumof5minutes

eitherway.Seehowthis worksbeforeadjustingagain.

Humidity,plustheadjustedtimesettings,tocomputeactivation.Thetemperatureoutdoorsismeasured
with a sensoratthefreshair ductinlet.IndoorHumidityismeasuredinthe returnductwith asensorbuilt
intotheController.Incoordinationwith thetimersettings,theControllerthenoperatesaccordingto the
temperatureandhumiditylimitsshownin Diagram1below.

Ifthe "TIMEONLY"resistorisusedinsteadof theOutdoorTemperatureSensor,the Controller'soperationis
determinedbythetimersettingsasadjustedonly.TheControllerwill notlimit operationbasedon the
temperatureandhumiditylimitsasshownin Diagram 1.Thisfeatureis importantfor areaswithmoderate

climates.
Ifa jumperwireis usedinplaceof the OutdoorTemperatureSensor,theControllerwill disregardthe

temperaturesettingandbaseventilationoperationontheindoorrelativehumidityandthe timersettings
only.Inthis modetheControllerwon'tallowventilationif the indoorRHrisesabove55%.
