You can feel confident in your selection because the same pride in craftsmanship and engineering knowledge that goes into Carrier equipment cooling the Astrodome in Texas, the Sistine Chapel in Rome, the United States Capitol’s halls of Congress, and thousands of other installations worldwide has gone into the construction of your unit.
In addition to cooling and/or heating, this Carrier unit will also filter and dehumidify the room’s air. Carrier Duct Free Systems quietly give you maximum comfort.
This Owners Manual will supply you with all the information you need to operate and maintain your new unit. Take a few moments to discover how to get the most in comfort and economic operation from your new Carrier Duct Free System!
Your air conditioner should be installed by authorized personnel only, using approved tubing and accessories. If you need technical assistance, service or repair: First: Contact the installer. Second: Contact the nearest distributor (See telephone yellow pages). Third: Call 1-800-CARRIER.

AIR CONDITIONER OPERATION MODE
Your Carrier Duct Free air conditioner operates in four modes:
The air conditioner cools, dries, and filters the room air
The air conditioner filters and circulates the room air, without changing the room air temperature
The air conditioner heats and filters the room air (if so equipped).
The air conditioner dries and filters the room air, while slightly cooling the room air temperature. (NOTE: Dehumidification does not take the place of a dehumidifier).
In addition, the air conditioner can operate automatically:
The air conditioner heats or cools the room according to the temperature you select:
If the room air is cooler than the desired temperature, the air conditioner operates in HEATING mode—(if so equipped).
If the room air is warmer than the desired temperature, the air conditioner operates in COOLING mode.
The remote controller transmits operation commands to the air conditioner. You can use the remote controller to perform the following functions:
• Turns the air conditioner ON and OFF.
• Selects the operation mode (Cooling, Fan, Heating, Dehumidification, or Auto).
• Adjusts the room air temperature and the fan speed.
• Sets air conditioner operation timer periods.
• Sets additional air conditioner adjustments and operating features.
The remote controller mounting rack can be used to secure the remote controller to a surface. When the remote controller is in its mounting rack, make sure that there is a clear line of sight between the remote controller and the air conditioner.
THE REMOTE CONTROLLER
The remote controller contains various buttons to operate the air conditioner, and a window display in which the current operation status is shown.
Each time you press a button on the remote controller you can observe the result on the display (Don’t worry about making a mistake, anything you do can easily be changed.)
REMOTE CONTROLLER OPERATION
NOTE: To operate the air conditioner with the remote control-
ler; set the operation switch to REMOTE (See Page 9).
• The remote controller may be used at a distance of up to 23 ft from the air conditioner display panel (without obstructions).

• When transmitting a command from the remote controller, point the transmitter toward the receiver on the right side of the air conditioner.
• The air conditioner confirms the receipt of a command by sounding two beeps.
• Make sure that no objects block the clear line of sight between the remote controller and the air conditioner.
• Changes entered on the remote controller must be promptly transmitted to the air conditioner.
If no transmission is made within 10 seconds, the remote controller reverts to its previous state.
The remote controller and the air conditioner constantly "exchange" information regarding adjustments and the room air temperature.
To ensure proper system operation, avoid block-
ing of the direct line of sight between them.
