IMPORT ANT - READ THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE
USING THE SOFTWARE IN THIS BOX. BY USING
THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY
THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT.

This is a license agreement (the “Agreement”)
between you and Canon Inc.(“Canon”).

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS AND
CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT , DO NOT USE
THE SOFTWARE PROGRAM AND THE USER
MANUAL IN THIS BOX (COLLECTIVELY, THE
“SOFTWARE”) AND RETURN THE SOFTWARE
WITHIN 30 DA YS FROM THE DA TE OF PURCHASE
TO YOUR POINT OF PURCHASE FOR A REFUND.

In consideration of the right to use the SOFT­WARE, you agree to abide by the terms and
conditions of this Agreement.

1.

LICENSE: Canon grants you the limited, non­exclusive right to use the SOFTWARE only
on a single computer. You may physically
transfer the SOFTWARE from one computer
to another provided that the SOFTWARE is
used on only one computer at a time. You
shall not install or use the SOFTWARE on a
network, multiple site arrangement, or any
other hardware configuration where the
SOFTWARE is accessible to more than one
CPU or to more than one user.

YOU SHALL NOT ASSIGN, SUBLICENSE, RENT ,
SELL, LEASE, LOAN OR CONVEY THE SOFT­WARE OR OTHERWISE USE, TRANSFER,
COPY, TRANSLA TE, CONVERT TO ANOTHER
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE OR ALTER,
MODIFY , DISCOMPILE OR DISASSEMBLE THE
SOFTWARE, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, EXCEPT
AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED IN THIS AGREE­MENT.

BACK-UP COPY: Y ou may make one copy of

the SOFTWARE solely for back-up purposes,
or copy the SOFTWARE onto the permanent
storage device (e.g. a hard disk) of your com­puter and retain the original for back-up
purposes. Any other copying of the SOFT­WARE is a violation of this Agreement. You
must reproduce and include the copyright
notice on the back-up copy.

SUPPORT AND UPDATES: Canon is not re-

sponsible for providing maintenance or sup­port for use of the SOFTWARE. No updates,
fixes or support will be made available for
the SOFTWARE.

LIMITED WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF

LIABILITY: It is your responsibility to choose,
maintain and match the hardware and soft­ware components of your computer system.
Thus Canon does not guarantee uninter­rupted service or correction of errors or that
the functions or performance of the SOFT­WARE will meet your requirements. THE
SOFTWARE IS LICENSED ON AN “AS IS” BA­SIS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY
KIND. The disk(s) storing the SOFTWARE is
(are) warranted only against defective ma­terial under normal use for a period of
ninety (90) days after purchase from an au­thorized Canon dealer as evidenced from
your sales receipt. Your sole remedy for a
defective disk shall be replacement of the
same without charge when returned by you
at your expense to your point of purchase
and proven to be defective upon inspection.
The replacement disk(s) will be warranted
for the remainder of the original ninety (90)
day warranty period of the defective disk(s).
The limited warranty does not apply if the
failure of the disk(s) resulted from accident,
abuse or misapplication of the SOFTWARE
and shall not extend to anyone other than
the original user of the SOFTWARE.

EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALL Y SET FORTH IN THIS
PARAGRAPH 4, CANON, CANON’S SUBSID­IARIES, DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS DIS­CLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IM­PLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF
MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A P AR­TICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
SOFTWARE.

NONE OF CANON OR ANY OF CANON’S SUB­SIDIARIES, DISTRIBUTORS OR DEALERS IS LI­ABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES HOWSOEVER
CAUSED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITA TION,
DIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL
LOSS OR DAMAGE, INCLUDING LOSS OF
PROFITS, EXPENSE OR INCONVENIENCE
HOWSOEVER CAUSED OR ARISING OUT OF
THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE THEREOF.
NONE OF CANON OR ANY OF CANON’S SUB­SIDIARIES, DISTRIBUTORS OR DEALERS
SHALL HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO INDEM­NIFY YOU AGAINST ANY CLAIM OR SUIT
BROUGHT BY A THIRD PARTY ALLEGING
THAT THE SOFTW ARE OR THE USE THEREOF

INFRINGES ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
OF SUCH THIRD PARTY.

TERM: This Agreement is effective upon

your using the SOFTWARE and remains in
effect until expiration of all copyright in­terests in the SOFTWARE unless earlier ter­minated. You may terminate this Agree­ment by destroying the SOFTWARE, includ­ing all back-up copies of the SOFTWARE.
This Agreement will also terminate without
notice to you if you fail to comply with any
of the terms of this Agreement and you
must then promptly return the SOFTWARE.
In addition, Canon may enforce its other
legal rights.

6. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS
NOTICE: The SOFTWARE is provided with re­stricted rights. Use, duplication or disclosure
is subject to restrictions as set forth in ei­ther subparagraph (c) (1) (ii) of the Rights
in Technical Data and Computer software
clause at DFARs 252.227-7013 or subpara­graph (c) (1) and (2) of the Commercial Com­puter Software Restricted Rights Clause at
FAR 52.227-19, as applicable.

HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, UNDER­STOOD IT, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY
ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS. YOU ALSO
AGREE THA T THIS AGREEMENT IS THE COM­PLETE AND EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF
AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND CANON
CONCERNING THE SUBJECT MATTER
HEREOF AND SUPERSEDES ALL PROPOSALS
OR PRIOR AGREEMENTS, VERBAL OR WRIT ­TEN, AND ANY OTHER COMMUNICATIONS
BETWEEN THE PARTIES RELATING TO THE
SUBJECT MATTER HEREOF. NO AMEND­MENT TO THIS AGREEMENT SHALL BE EF­FECTIVE UNLESS SIGNED BY A DUL Y AUTHO­RIZED OFFICER OF CANON.

SEVERABILITY: In the event that any provi-

sion of this Agreement is declared or found
to be illegal by any court or tribunal of com­petent jurisdiction, such provision shall be
null and void with respect to the jurisdic­tion of that court or tribunal and all the
remaining provisions of the Agreement shall
remain in full force and effect.

8. CONTROLLING LAW: The terms of this
Agreement as it relates to purchases of the
SOFTWARE in the United States of America
shall be governed and construed in all re­spects in accordance with the laws and regu­lations of the State of New York, without
reference to choice of law principles. The
terms of this Agreement as it relates to pur­chase of the SOFTWARE in Canada shall be
governed by and construed in all respects
in accordance with the laws and regulations
of the Province of Ontario.

9. OWNERSHIP: All rights, including but not
limited to copyrights and trade secret rights,
to the SOFTWARE belong to Canon, its af­filiated corporations and third party licen­sors. Your use of the SOFTWARE is subject
to the United States, Canada and other ap­plicable copyright and trademark laws and
nothing in this Agreement constitutes a
waiver of the rights of Canon, its affiliated

le transfert physique du LOGICIEL d’un
ordinateur à un autre à condition que ce
LOGICIEL soit utilisé sur un seul ordinateur à
la fois. Vous ne devez pas installer ni utiliser
le LOGICIEL sur un réseau, plusieurs sites, ni
toute autre configuration matérielle, où le
LOGICIEL peut être utilisé par plus d’une unité
centrale de traitement ou plus d’un utilisateur.

VOUS NE DEVEZ PAS CÉDER, LOUER,
VENDRE, TRANSFÉRER, TRADUIRE, UTILISER,
COPIER, ALTÉRER, MODIFIER, DÉCOMPILER
NI DÉSASSEMBLER CE LOGICIEL, NI LE
CONVERTIR EN UN AUTRE LANGAGE DE
PROGRAMMATION OU LE DONNER À BAIL,
NI ACCORDER DES SOUS-LICENCES À UN
TIERS OU LE SOUMETTRE À UN CONTRAT
DE PRÊT, EN TOUT OU EN PARTIE, SAUF SI
UN TEL CAS EST EXPRESSÉMENT PRÉVU

2. COPIE DE SAUVEGARDE: Vous pouvez
effectuer une copie du LOGICIEL aux fins de

3. SOUTIEN ET MISES À JOUR: Canon n’est pas
responsable de l’entretien du LOGICIEL ni
d’aucun soutien à l’utilisation du LOGICIEL.
Aucune mise à jour ni réparation, ni aucun
soutien ne seront offerts pour ce LOGICIEL.

4. GARANTIE LIMITÉE ET LIMITATION DE LA
RESPONSABILITÉ: Il vous incombe de choisir ,
d’assurer l’entretien et d’assortir le matériel
et les composants logiciels de votre système
informatique. Canon ne peut garantir un
service sans interruption ni la correction des
erreurs, ni que les fonctions ou le rendement
du LOGICIEL répondront à vos exigences. LA
LICENCE S’APPLIQUE À UN LOGICIEL VENDU
« TEL QUEL » ET NE COMPORTE AUCUNE
GARANTIE, QUELLE QU’ELLE SOIT. La
disquette ou les disquettes contenant le
LOGICIEL sont garanties uniquement contre
tout vice de matière dans le cadre d’une
utilisation normale pour une période de
quatre-vingt-dix (90) jours à compter de la
date d’achat auprès d’un dépositaire Canon
agréé, tel que confirmé par la facture de
vente. Si la disquette s’avère défectueuse,
votre seul recours est le remplacement de
ladite disquette sans frais, à la condition
qu’elle soit retournée par vous, à vos frais,
à votre point de vente, et qu’après inspec­tion, il est prouvé qu’elle est défectueuse.
La disquette ou les disquettes de
remplacement ne seront garanties que pour
le reste de la période de garantie initiale
de quatre-vingt-dix (90) jours de la disquette
ou des disquettes défectueuses. La garantie

valide jusqu’à expiration des intérêts des
droits d’auteur pour le LOGICIEL, à moins
d’y mettre fin avant. Vous pouvez mettre
fin à la présente entente en détruisant le
LOGICIEL, y compris toutes les copies de
sauvegarde du LOGICIEL. La présente en­tente sera également annulée sans
qu’aucun avis ne vous soit présenté si vous
n’en respectez pas les dispositions. Vous
devrez alors retourner le LOGICIEL dans les

The printer driver serves as the interface between
your computer and the CD-300, and is responsible
for transfer of data from the computer to the printer.
The driver can be installed on computer systems
that meet the following conditions.

Setting Up the Printer Driver

Connecting the Printer Cable

Before installing the driver, you need to connect the
parallel port on your computer to the parallel port on
the printer. You can purchase the required printer
cable from your local computer supply store.

1.

Switch off the power to both the
printer and the computer.

2.

Connect the printer cable to your
computer's printer connector (parallel
port).

3.

Connect the other end of the cable to
the printer's parallel terminal.

Fasten the metal clips so that the cable will not
come off.

For detailed information about the connection con­figuration and connection requirements, refer to the
CD-300 User Guide and to the documentation for
your computer.

Installing the Printer Driver

You can install the driver on either Windows 95 or
Windows 98. This following procedure takes you
through the steps required to install the driver on
Windows 95.

The procedure for installing the driver on Win-

dows 98 is essentially the same as the Windows
95 procedure described below.
Installation will require use of your Windows in-

stallation disk (the CD-ROM disk or the floppy­disk set from which your Windows operating sys­tem was originally loaded). Have the disk(s) ready
before beginning this installation.

1.

Switch on the power to the printer.

2.

Start up Windows 95.

After starting up, the system should display the
following message:
"New hardware has been detected. The required
software is being installed."

Depending on your computer, one of the

following windows will now appear.
(a) The Update Device Driver Wizard window

If for some reason the "New hardware has been
detected..." message does not appear when Win­dows starts up, you can use the following proce­dure to install the driver.

Initializing the Printer Settings

The paper type, color adjustment, and other settings
can be set for printing. Here you can set the default
settings when the CD-300 is selected as the default
printer, so these settings will be enabled every time
you open the software application. (There may be
occasions when not all of the software application
settings can be initialized with default settings.)

Using Print Setup Dialog

Y ou use the Print Setup dialog to set basic print set­tings such as ink cassette type, number of copies,
and print orientation.

Use this field to select the cassettes you are using for your
print. The default setting is Standard. Y ou can change the
selection by clicking on the appropriate icon. The selected
icon is indicated by highlight.

Comments

Lets you know whether the ink cassette you selected in
the Paper/Ink Cassettes field is already inserted in the
printer, or whether you need to insert it before you can

indicate the number of images that you can select for your
print. Other information may also be presented in accor­dance with the current printer status.

Use this dialog to set color adjustment for printing.

Color Adjustment

Placing a check in this box makes it possible to operate
the various adjustment sliders. Each slider controls a par­ticular adjustment parameter , as described below. For each
parameter, the current numerical setting is shown to the
left of the slider.

Brightness

Adjusts the brightness. Dragging the slider to the right
increases the brightness.

Contrast

Adjusts the contrast. Dragging the slider to the right in­creases the contrast.

Adjusts the color purity. Moving the slider to the right

Use the three sliders to the right to adjust the color bal­ance and density. Each slider controls the intensity for a
different primary color: R (red), G (green), and B (blue).
Moving the slider to the right increases the intensity of
the corresponding color.

Sliders

Use these sliders to adjust the colors. Y ou can move each
slider by dragging it with the mouse.

Default

Resets all settings in the Color dialog to their defaults.
The default for sharpness is 3; the default for all other
settings is 0.

OK

Saves the present Color settings and closes the Color dia­log, returning you to the Print Setup dialog.

Cancel

Closes the Color dialog without saving new settings,
returning you to the Print Setup dialog.

Help

Displays help about the Color dialog.

When you are finished with the settings, click [OK]

Let’s print an image with Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home
Edition, provided with some Canon digital cameras.
Make sure that Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition
is installed. Insert the PhotoDeluxe disk in the drive.

Confirm that the CD-300 is selected as the default

What to Do When a Printer Error Occurs

If the printer encounters an error condition, printing
stops and the printer's Error lamp begins flashing. Fol­low the procedure below to display the error message
and correct the problem.

(1) If the software application, pull down the File menu

and select Print.

· The Print dialog box opens.

(2) Click the Properties button in the Print dialog box.

· The error message is displayed in the Comment
field of the Print Settings dialog box.

The procedure to open the dialog box or window in
Step 1 could be slightly different, depending on the
software application that you are using. For details,
refer to your software application manual.

· Windows may display the Printer Folder dialog when
an error occurs. Please do not click on any buttons in
this dialog.

· Note that although error information will also appear
if you double-click the [Canon CD-300] icon in the
Printers window, this information may not always cor­respond to the actual cause of the problem.
