INSTALLING CANOGAVIEW EMS
INTRODUCTION
CanogaView EMS
CanogaView EMS denotes a web-based, comprehensive Element Management System used to monitor
and provision Canoga Perkins’ managed devices. CanogaView EMS is a structure of products designed
to provide the upmost standards for managing these devices. Developed using open source technology,
managing services include a core component followed by the installation of additional, optional
applications. These optional application packages are dependent on the common set of services
provided by the core.
Based on the server-side, client-side paradigm, the CanogaView EMS server is responsible for deploying
CanogaView’s applications for use by the client, which is any web browser with Ethernet accessibility to
the CanogaView EMS server.
The separate device packages are available according to the customer’s needs in terms of the Canoga
Perkins’ devices deployed in their networks. Each device package is independent of any other device
package and can be installed or removed at any time.
CanogaView EMS requires the installation of its core services prior to the installation of any optional
packages. Optional packages may be installed as required afterwards. Each optional package follows a
very similar installation and uninstall procedure.
Installation Overview
This document describes step-by-step procedures for the installation of both CanogaView EMS Core and
Report Server on your Windows or Sun Server. It also includes uninstall procedures for these packages.
The major components of the CanogaView EMS Core and Report Server include:
•GlassFish project application server platform available under the Common Development
and Distribution License (CDDL) V 1.0
•Apache Derby relational database available under the Apache License, Version 2.0
•JasperServer report server under the GNU General Public License (GPL) Open Source
License
•Alarm Monitoring (Active and Historical alarm monitoring)
•Security (User accounts based on role and group assignments)
•Online Help System
•Utilities (Alarm setup, alarm purge and server Admin console)
Ca nogaView EMS In sta llation G uide
This document describes step-by-step procedures for the installation of both CanogaView EMS Core
Services and Report Server on your Windows or Sun Server. It also includes uninstall procedures for
these packages.
The following files will be used on the installation CD to install the system: (Windows) csem-core-
install-win32 and csem-rptsvr-install-win32 or (Solaris) csem-core-install-solaris and csemrptsvr-install-solaris.
•csem-core-install installs the CanogaView EMS Core and includes both the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) and Java Development Kit (JDK). If you already have these Java packages
on your system, you may be able to use them provided they are the proper versions. For the
Java Runtime Environment package, version 5 (1.5.x) or greater is required. For the Java
Development Kit, version 6 (1.6.x) or greater is required.
•csem-rptsvr-install installs the CanogaView 2.0 Report Server.
CanogaView EMS Core must be installed before the Report
Server.
Do not attempt to install CanogaView EMS over a previous
CanogaView EMS installation.
• To reinstall CanogaView EMS Core, first uninstall Report
Server then CanogaView EMS Core. Next, reinstall the
Core followed by the Report Server.
• To reinstall just the Report Server, uninstall and then
reinstall it.

installation.
STEP 1BEGIN INSTALLATION
Locate the folder csem-core-2.0 on the installation CD and execute the file core-installwin32.exe.
When the Information window appears, click Next.
If the installation procedure does not detect the proper version 5 (1.5.x) or greater of the Java
Runtime Environment (JRE), a window will appear indicating that a Java Runtime Environment
could not be found. Select one of the following options, then click OK.
• manually specify the location of an existing Java Runtime Environment.
• automatically install the Java Runtime Environment provided with this software (recom-mended).
• download the latest version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment from the Internet.
•If the Welcome to Java window appears, click Accept to install the JRE. When the Thank
You! window appears, click Finish.
STEP 2LICENSING AGREEMENTS

STEP 1BEGIN UNINSTALL
Open a Terminal window.
If you installed CanogaView EMS using the default path: /opt/core, execute the command: java -
jar /opt/core/Uninstaller/uninstaller.jar.
If you specified a path other than the default path, substitute that path for /opt/core.
STEP 2UNINSTALL
The Uninstaller popup appears. To remove all files, including data files that have been modified,
you would check the Force the deletion of.... box then click Uninstall. If you want to retain
modified data files, you would click Uninstall but would NOT check the Force the deletion of....
box.
When you click Uninstall, should a popup appear indicating a message like: “failed to lock
IzRegistry at location:...... “, navigate to /opt/izpack. You should see a file named, “.lckzRegistry”.
This is a lock file. Remove it, then rerun the uninstall program.
STEP 3UNINSTALL FINISHED
When the uninstall is finished, click Quit.
An uninstall may not remove all the folders created as part of the installation procedure. If so you can
manually remove these folders if you please. You will find them at the location you installed them.
Open a Terminal window and execute the following command: rm -rf (path). For example, if you used
the installation default path you would execute the command: rm -rf /opt/core to remove the folders.
Note that if you chose to retain modified data files, do not remove the folders manually. If so
you will lose the data files.

fields will be blank. Nonetheless, if you enter a new password, asterisks will appear.

5. For further information on groups and user accounts, refer to the CanogaView EMS Online Help
•Each user account must have an assigned username and password
•To work, the account must also be enabled. however, you may
define an account and save it to the database, leaving it enabled
until you want the account to go into service.
•To change the password on an account, including the predefined
default accounts, you would use the Users option under Security
in the CanogaView menu. The username cannot be changed
once the account is initially saved, only the password.
