SmartSwitch 9000 9A000 MODULE SMB-1 FIRMWARE
PROM UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction
These instructions explain how to upgrade the SMB-1 Firmware PROM in the 9A000 module that is installed in the SmartSwitch 9000 chassis. Please be sure to read and understand all of the instructions in this document and in the release notes supplied in this upgrade kit. The upgrade involves locating the socket that holds the SMB-1 Firmware PROM, removing the existing PROM and inserting the replacement PROM included in this upgrade kit. Follow the detailed steps under each task.
This upgrade kit contains:
One SMB-1 Firmware PROM (Part Number: 02151345-03)
One IC extraction tool
One set of Release Notes
One set of 9A000 SmartSwitch 9000 Module SMB-1 Firmware PROM Upgrade Instructions
One antistatic wrist strap
To avoid damage from static discharge, be sure to observe all static precautions during this procedure.

CAUTION
Failure to do so could result in damage to the SMB-1 Firmware PROM and the SmartSwitch 9000 module.
Locate the Module’s SMB-1 Firmware PROM and Socket
The 9A000 SMB-1 PROM location designator is UC6.
1. Place the module (component side up) on a non-conductive flat surface. Position the module so that the module’s front (faceplate) is to the left and the module’s back (backplane connector) is to the right.
2. Physically locate the SMB-1 Firmware PROM and socket. UC6 is located on the right side of the module in the middle (it is on the same circuit board as the backplane connector).

Remove the Existing SMB-1 Firmware PROM
To remove the existing SMB-1 Firmware PROM, follow the steps detailed in the instruction sheet packaged with the extraction tool.
Insert the Replacement SMB-1 Firmware PROM
1. Align the diagonal corner of the replacement SMB-1 Firmware PROM with the diagonal corner of the socket.
2. Gently and evenly push the SMB-1 Firmware PROM into the socket.
3. Reinsert the module in the slot in the SmartSwitch 9000 chassis from which it was taken.
