Overview
Overview
Crystal Xcelsius (Xcelsius) bridges the gap between data analysis and visual
presentations, empowering users to create interactive reports and
applications.
Xcelsius is intuitive enough for beginners and versatile enough for advanced
users. It allows users to create reports without having to learn programming
languages. With Xcelsius, pointing and clicking the mouse can create rich
interactive presentations.
Xcelsius integrates with Microsoft Corporation's Office products. This
integration lets you attach your reports to Microsoft Outlook email messages
or embed them into PowerPoint slides.
Xcelsius can be installed to interact with Live Office and BusinessObjects
Enterprise or Crystal Reports Server. The purpose of this chapter is to guide
you through the installation path that you must follow for various deployment
scenarios. It also provides detailed information about installing Crystal
Xcelsius Designer 4.5.
Note: For specific information about installing Live Office, BusinessObjects
Enterprise, or Crystal Reports Server refer to that product’s installation guide.
The installation guides for all the products discussed in this chapter are
available with your product download.

Hardware and software requirements
Minimum recommended hardware
The following hardware is required:
• PC with Pentium 3 or equivalent processor
• 128MB of RAM
Operating system
The following operating systems are supported:
• Windows 2000
• Windows XP

Microsoft Office
The following versions of Microsoft Office are supported:
• Office 2000
• Office XP
• Office 2003
Ensure that Microsoft Excel, from the Microsoft suite of products, is installed.
Installation and activation
Installation
Double click on the installation program and it will take you through the
installation steps. Xcelsius requires that you install the latest version of the
Flash 7 Player; this is an option in the install program, it is checked by default.
Leave this option checked unless you are absolutely sure that you have the
latest version of the Flash Player installed.
Note: You must install Xcelsius under a user account that has Administrator
privileges.
Activation
One license of Xcelsius will allow you to run the application on one machine.
Activation is the process which establishes which machine will host the
application.
If you have purchased Xcelsius you will first need to register with the serial
number provided to you. Once the registration has been confirmed, the
application will prompt you to activate.
To complete activation, you will be given the option to activate automatically if
you have an internet connection, or you can choose to activate manually by
phone or email. An activation wizard walks you through the manual activation
process.
Note: The application will run several times before you are required to
activate.

Reports Server, and Live Office refer to their installation guides individually.

Single machine deployment
Single machine deployment
You can install BusinessObjects Enterprise or Crystal Reports Server and
Live Office on a single machine. Follow the installation order outlined in the
following procedure.
To install all the components on a single machine
1. Install BusinessObjects Enterprise or Crystal Reports Server.
2. Install Live Office.
Note: You do not need to install Live Office to enable refresh capabilities.
You only need to install it if you want be able to create Live Office Views.
3. Install BusinessObjects Web Services.
4. Install Crystal Xcelsius Designer 4.5.
5. Add the Live Office key code to the Central Management Console.
Client installation with Crystal Reports Server deployment
You can install Live Office and Crystal Xcelsius Designer on a client machine
and deploy Crystal Reports Server and the BusinessObjects Web Services on
a server machine.
Deploy the server software in this order
1. Install Crystal Reports Server.
2. Install BusinessObjects Web Services.
3. Add the Live Office key code to the Central Management Console.
Deploy the client software in this order
1. Install Live Office.
Note: You do not need to install Live Office to enable refresh capabilities.
You only need to install it if you want be able to create Live Office Views.

Enterprise deployment
You can install Live Office and Crystal Xcelsius Designer on a client machine
and deploy BusinessObjects Enterprise and the BusinessObjects Web
Services on a server machine.
Deploy the server software in this order
1. Install BusinessObjects Enterprise if it is not already installed.
2. Install BusinessObjects Web Services.
3. Add the Live Office key code to the Central Management Console.
Note: If you have already installed Live Office as part of your
BusinessObjects Enterprise deployment, you can skip this step.
