iv Crystal Analysis Professional Installation Guide

Introduction 1

Welcome to the Crystal Analysis Professional Installation Guide.
Crystal Analysis lets you create and view analytic applications on the desktop. Using Crystal Enterprise, you can also publish analytic applications for web distribution.
This guide explains how to install Crystal Analysis, and extend an existing Crystal Enterprise installation to enable it to distribute analytic applications. You must install some server components to enable Crystal Enterprise to distribute analytic applications.
You do not need to install Crystal Enterprise on the local computer to distribute analytic applications. You can use Crystal Enterprise on any computer in the network, as long as you have installed the server components to that computer.
In this guide we assume that you have already installed Crystal Enterprise. For a description of the Crystal Enterprise components and installation instructions, see the Crystal Enterprise Installation Guide.
The installation CD includes some sample data for the tutorials.

About Crystal Analysis 2

This chapter describes the components of Crystal Analysis and provides several installation scenarios to help you decide which installation is right for you.
Crystal Analysis Professional Installation Guide 5

Crystal Analysis components

Crystal Analysis components
A full Crystal Analysis installation consists of the following components:
Application Designer
Crystal Publishing Wizard
Crystal Analysis Add-in
Automated Process Scheduler (APS) Add-on
Web Component Server (WCS) Add-on
Rich Client
Web Server support
The first three are client components. The remaining four are server components, although the Rich Client is a special case as it is an ActiveX control that gets copied from server to client computers upon request. Most of the server components extend an existing Crystal Enterprise installation so that you can publish analytic applications to the Web.

Client components described

Application Designer
The Application Designer enables you to design desktop analytic applications. You can distribute these applications as CAR files, in which case users will require the Application Designer to view them. Alternatively, you can publish applications using Crystal Enterprise. Users can then view applications in a Web browser.
Four Application Designer Experts are also included, to help you create some standard business analytic applications. You choose the type of application to create, then the Expert guides you through the steps involved in creating the application.
Crystal Publishing Wizard
The Crystal Publishing Wizard is used to save an analytic application to the Automated Process Server (APS). When users view reports in HTML format, the Crystal Enterprise WCS is responsible for converting the application to HTML format.
Note: This Publishing Wizard publishes analytic applications to the Web. The Publishing Wizard that is installed as part of Crystal Enterprise publishes Crystal reports to the Web.
6 Crystal Analysis Professional Installation Guide
Crystal Analysis Add-in
The Crystal Analysis Add-in is a component that allows you to use Microsoft® Excel™ to view and analyze OLAP data. If you choose to install the add-in, it automatically becomes available for use when you next start Excel.

Server components described

These components extend an existing Crystal Enterprise installation so that you can publish analytic applications to the Web. The complexity of the installation depends on the Crystal Enterprise installation.
For a description of the Crystal Enterprise components and installation instructions, see the Crystal Enterprise Installation Guide.
Web Component Server add-on
This add-on enables the Crystal Enterprise Web Component Server to distribute analytic applications. You must install this on the computer on which the Web Component Server is installed.
Automated Process Scheduler add-on
This add-on enables analytic applications to be published to the Crystal Enterprise APS. You must install this on the computer on which the APS is installed.
2: About Crystal Analysis
Rich Client
The Rich Client gets downloaded to a user’s computer the first time they view an analytic application that has been specifically set up to use it. It provides an alternative to the zero client for viewing applications over the Web.
Web Server support
This add-on provides a Crystal Enterprise Web Connector for analytic applications. You must install this on the computer on which the Web server is installed.
Crystal Analysis Professional Installation Guide 7

Component installation configurations

Component installation configurations
Here are some scenarios to help you choose the configuration that is best for you.

Scenario 1: Viewing analytic applications in a browser

Users can view analytic applications in a Web browser, using either the Zero Client or the Rich Client. See “Supported browsers” on page 10 for details.

Scenario 2: Viewing analytic applications on the desktop

To enable a user to view analytic applications on the desktop, you need to install the Application Designer on the user’s computer. A “Desktop Client” installation will install all the client components on one computer. See “Desktop Client” on
page 14.
Note: A user will also need access rights to the cubes used in the applications and to PTS if connecting to MS OLAP.

Scenario 3: Designing analytic applications

To enable you to design analytic applications, you should perform a “Desktop Client” installation to install all the client components on your computer. See
“Desktop Client” on page 14.

Scenario 4: Designing and publishing analytic applications

To enable you to design analytic applications, you should install all the Crystal Analysis client components on your computer. To publish analytic applications, you have to extend an existing Crystal Enterprise by installing the server components.
To extend an existing Crystal Enterprise Standard installation, you should install the server components on the Crystal Enterprise Standard computer. Crystal Enterprise Standard installs all the Crystal Enterprise components onto one computer.
Crystal Enterprise Professional enables you to perform a custom installation, which may mean that the APS, WCS and Web connectors are installed on different computers. To extend an existing Crystal Enterprise Professional installation, you should install each server component (APS add-on, WCS add-on and Web server support) to the corresponding computers.
Note: The WCS computer will also need access rights to the cubes used in the applications.

Configuring the Rich Client

Configuring the Rich Client
This section explains how to configure the Rich Client for use once it has been added, as a server component, to a computer that already has Crystal Enterprise installed.
The Rich Client initially gets installed if you carry out the Web Components or Complete installations, or if you perform a Custom installation and specifically select it as you work through the wizard.
When a user tries to view, using a supported Web browser, an analytic application that has been configured to use the Rich Client, the Rich Client ActiveX control is automatically copied to their computer.
The procedure that you should follow in order to configure the Rich Client depends upon the version of Crystal Enterprise that you are using.
To configure the Rich Client for use with Crystal Enterprise
In order to configure the Rich Client for use with Crystal Enterprise, you must either alter or replace these files:
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Web
Content\Enterprise9\eportfolio\en\settings.csp
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Web Content\Enterprise9\eportfolio\en\settings_include.csp
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Web Content\Enterprise9\eportfolio\en\logon.csp
Note: X: is the drive upon which Crystal Enterprise is installed.
If you are certain that these files have not changed in any way since Crystal Enterprise was installed, there is no need to follow steps 1–8 below. You can replace
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\9.0\Analysis\ActiveX Viewer\ActiveXSettings\CE9.0\settings.csp
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\9.0\Analysis\ActiveX Viewer\ActiveXSettings\CE9.0\settings_include.csp
X:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\9.0\Analysis\ActiveX Viewer\ActiveXSettings\CE9.0\logon.csp
You can then use ePortfolio to configure your CAR files so that users can view them with the Rich Client. See the Crystal Analysis Professional User’s Guide for specific information about how to do this.
If customized since Crystal Enterprise was installed, follow these steps:
1 On the computer that has the Rich Client and Crystal Enterprise 9.0 installed
settings.csp, settings_include.csp
settings.csp, settings_include.csp

Modifying Essbase and DB2 support for Rich Client

Modifying Essbase and DB2 support for Rich Client
Crystal Analysis has several DLLs for connection to Hyperion® Essbase® and IBM® DB2 OLAP Server data sources. These DLLs support different versions of Essbase and DB2.
When you view an application for the first time in Crystal Enterprise, and the Rich Client is selected as your chosen viewer, the Rich Client is installed on your machine. All the Essbase and DB2 support DLLs are installed, but only the most recent versions are active.
If you want to use a previous version, you must delete the active version and then copy and rename the correct version.
To change to an older Essbase support DLL
