Installation notes
Installation adviceTo simplify installation, read the following tips before you begin:
You should give the contents of this software shipment to your system
administrator. Firstlogic recommends that our software be installed only by,
or with the approval of, the system administrator.
You’ll find your software CDs in the Firstlogic binder or CD case(s).
Although you can install your applications and directories in any order, we
recommend that you install software first and then directories.
If you install on multiple operating systems, check the bottom of the CD label
for the appropriate operating system.
Install on WindowsWhen you insert the Firstlogic CD, the installation program should start
automatically. If it doesn’t, follow these steps:
1.Access your Windows Start menu and choose Run.
2.In the Run window, type x:\setup (where x is the letter of your CD-ROM
drive) and click OK. The installation program should start.
Install ACE Canada 7.70c in a directory called pw. Be sure to install all
supporting directory files. Run ACE Canada directly from the appropriate
subdirectory, for example, pw\cace or pw\cacelib.
For details, see the System Administrator’s Guide.
Install on UNIXTo install, run the UNIX install_console. For more information, see the
System Administrator’s Guide.
Client shortcutsIf you have ACE Canada installed on one computer, but you run it from another
computer using client shortcuts, you must refresh your client-side shortcuts by
using the Firstlogic Universal Client installer.
Job usersIf you use the job-file product, update your job files using the version of
Edjob installed in your pw\adm directory. Here is the general form of the
command line:
edjob [options] [path]pwcacjob.updjob_file.cac
Operating system
versions
You should run ACE Canada on the same operating system that we test the
software. See Firstlogic’s InfoSource for a chart that lists the operating
systems and current versions that you should use. You can find the most
recent issue on our Customer Portal web site at:

ACE Canada Job only: New input file options
In order to more consistently handle definition and format files from one
Firstlogic product to the next, we have added two options to the Input File block:
Override Default Format File
Override Default DEF File
These changes apply to Job only.
Use the new options to specify the format and definition file options that you
want to use above all other settings. For example, let’s say that you typically use a
template when creating your jobs, and you have the format and definition files
already specified in the Auxiliary Files block. You can set these override options
to use a different format or definition file without having to remove the default
options in the Auxiliary Files block.
ACE Canada looks for the definition and format files in the following order:
the Override options listed in the Input File block
the files with the same name in the same folder as the input file
the files listed in the Auxiliary Files block
Entering paths in the Input File block are optional. You do not need to set
these options in order to process the job.

Input File Name (path & file name)... =
Output file format. If you are copying the input format to your output file,
and you have the format and definition files set in both the Input File and
Auxiliary File blocks, the output format will use the new override setting
specified in the Input File block.

Assignment correction
Previous versions of ACE Canada corrected data in the Suffix and Directional
fields for unassigned addresses when it should have returned only parsed data.
Version 7.70c correctly returns parsed Suffix and Directional data.
When you disable the Standardize Unassigned Addresses option, ACE Canada
will not return corrected data in the Suffix and Directional fields. It will return the
parsed, uncorrected data. Here are a few examples:
This affects only the parsed data, not the corrected (standardized) data. If you
enable the Standardize Unassigned Addresses, the Canada engine will
standardize even the unassigned addresses and correct the best components
for these fields.
However, if you disable this option and an address is unassigned, the best
components will remain the parsed (original) components that represent the
input data.
Example 1In this example, previous versions returns corrected and truncated data. Version
7.70c returns the data exactly as it was found on input regardless of length or
accuracy.
