ACE includes the following changes for USPS CASS Cycle K certification.
Recombining primary
and secondary ranges
The USPS requires that ACE combine certain portions of the primary range with
the secondary range to obtain a match. These are now required by the USPS,
though they were optional in the previous CASS Cycle. The recombination may
increase high-rise depth-of-code matches. The previous version of ACE already
correctly assigned these types of addresses.
DescriptionSample address: inputSample address: match

The USPS mandates that any lastline input data within the Flushing, NY finance
area should not use recombination. When you have addresses such as the
following with a Flushing, NY address, you will notice that ACE correctly does
not use recombination.
DescriptionSample address: inputSample address: match
Example 1. Recombination is not used, but the
dash is removed to make
an accurate match.

There are changes to both dual address on the same line and separate line
processing.
Due to the CASS Cycle K changes, ACE cannot concatenate two address lines
before processing. This means that the software continues to process the input
data in PW.Line1 and PW.Line2 when there are multiple input address lines.
In the case where the input data has both dual address information and private
mailbox (PMB) information, the PMB information is included with the address
line information that was input. For example, if PMB was input with PW.Line1, it
will be output on AP.Std_Linen where n is a number between 1-12.
CASS version update
5
Dual address on separate
lines
The USPS will enforce the requirements to deliver to the address immediately
above the city and state line as described in The Domestic Mail Manual (DMM).
If you have an address with both a street address and a post office box number, it
will be delivered to the address on the line above the city and state. In the
example below, it will be delivered to PO Box 118.
431 Stevenson St
PO Box 118
Westport NY 12993-0118
If the line immediately above the city and state does not match the information in
the directories, ACE will attempt to match on the top address line (in the above
case, 431 Stevenson). If that results in a match, then the address lines are
switched to make the deliverable address immediately above the city and state.
For example, you’ll see that 431 Stevenson was moved to the second line.
PO Box 118
431 Stevenson St
Westport NY 12993-0118
In order for this to assign properly, set Preserve Dual Address Order to N or
False, and the Dual Address option must always be set to Position for CASS
certification. You can set the Dual Address option in the Standardization Style

ACE 7.70c Release Notes
Dual address on the same
line
ACE follows the DMM requirement to give preference to the address with the
highest priority when a dual address is on the same line. After the highest priority
address is matched, it is placed on a separate line immediately above the city and
state.
DescriptionSample address: inputSample address:
An exact match on PO
Box is given priority
over the street address.
An exact match on street
address is given priority
over general delivery.
1.These examples show multiline output. Dual address information is saved
in APD.Address. In the examples above, “3138 Hwy 371” and “General Delivery” can be found in APD.Address.

6.General Delivery
When there is an inexact match, you may see that one of the other address types
was assigned, even though it is lower in the hierarchy. For example, if there is an
inexact match on PO Box, you may see an exact match on Rural Route. For a
complete listing of the rules, see the USPS CASS requirements.
To accommodate the dual address line changes, the two items have changed.
1.There is a new option in the Multiline Style block called Preserve Dual
Address Order. When you have dual addresses on separate lines, set this
option to Y or True to keep the input address order. This means that if the top
line is assigned, it will not move to the position immediately above the city
and state. For example, you may have the following address:
PO Box 21
200 Main St
La Crosse, WI 54601
Even though the software assigns to PO Box 21, it will not switch the line
with 200 Main St. In other words, it will output as shown above when this
option is set to Y or True.
Use this option when the dual addresses appear on separate lines. In
situations where dual addresses appear on the same line, only the
assigned address appears in the multiline output. Other address data
appears in APD.Address. The exception to this is when the Extra Data
option is set to Loose, and then the data appears on the same line.

return code, 09, states “LACSLink has matched an input

the input address was converted, but was not matched. You can find this option in
the Job or Views output fields under AP. LACSL_Ret. If you’re working with
ACE Library, see ACE_LACSLINK_RETCODE.
DPV and directionalsIf a match cannot be made using the existing directional cardinal rules, then
CASS allows matches made by Delivery Point Validation (DPV) when there is
only one DPV match. DPV is currently a value-add option. If you own this, make
sure the path is set in the Auxiliary Files block, and the Execution block has the
DPV Mode option set to Validate, Tiebreak, or Both.
Current rulesHere are the four existing cardinal rules.
1.Do not change the cardinal point directional to another cardinal point
directional.
2.Add or delete a directional to produce a match where there is only one
matching record for the street name and house number.
3.Change the directional within its cardinal range when there is only one
matching record for the street name and house number.
4.Do not break ties using cardinal directional logic when more than one record
exists for the street name and house number.
Additional rulesThe USPS allows these changes based on matching a single address that DPV
confirms.
1.Change the cardinal point directional to another cardinal point directional
when there is only one matching record in DPV.

Self-certifying for
CASS
If you self-certify for CASS, you need to set Assign City by Lastline Index to
Yes. If you don’t self-certify, you can still get a CASS report by setting this option
to either Yes or No.
Unique ZIP Code logicUnique ZIP Codes are those that may be used in large companies or universities
where the mail is delivered to the organization, and then distributed internally.
CASS has specific rules about assignments made to unique ZIP Codes.
The following describes three scenarios and how ACE assigns the ZIP and
ZIP+4. This is for your information, and does not require any additional settings
to enable these features to work.
Valid unique ZIP Code
with no match
Valid unique ZIP+4 Code
with no exact match
In this scenario, there is a valid and unique input ZIP Code, but a match is not
made within the directories. In this case, ACE adds 0001 as the ZIP+4, and then
performs an index directory look-up with the reverse ZIP+4 directories.
If the look-up is successful, then ACE assigns the CART and record type
(AP.CASSrectyp), and sets the default flag, AP.Qss_Dflt, to False.
If the look-up is unsuccessful, then ACE sets the CART to C000, sets the record
type based on the input records and sets the default flag to True.

DPBC:00
For example, the unique ZIP+4 Code of 60674-0001 is valid. Therefore, the
CART and record type is obtained from the reverse index directory look-up, and
the default flag is set to False.
In this scenario, there is a valid ZIP Code and ZIP+4 Code, but a match is not
made within the directories. In order to make an assignment, ACE performs a
reverse index directory look-up and assigns the CART value. It also sets the
default flag, AP.Qss_dflt, to False.

Invalid unique ZIP+4
Code with no match
In this scenario, there is a valid, unique ZIP Code with an invalid ZIP+4. In this
case, ACE changes the ZIP+4 to 0001 and then performs a reverse index
directory look-up.
If the look-up is successful, then ACE assigns the CART and record type
(AP.CASSrectyp) and sets the default flag, AP.Qss_dflt, to False.
If the look-up is unsuccessful, then ACE sets the CART to C000, sets the record
type based on the input record, and sets the default flag to True.
For example, the ZIP+4 Code of 57799-9677 is invalid, so the ZIP+4 is changed
to 0001. Through the reverse index directory look-up, the ZIP+4 Code of 0001 is
still invalid. Therefore, the CART is set to C000, the record type is based on the
input record, and the default flag is set to True.

Change “Box” wording
The USPS requires changing the word ‘box’ to a pound (#) sign in some
situations.
When the box number appears on the same line as the street address, an attempt is
made to assign the street address first. If a match is made on the street address, the
word ‘Box’ is replaced with the # sign. If a street assignment is not made, then a
PO Box assignment is attempted based on the Box number.

New input file options
In order to more consistently handle definition and format files from one
Firstlogic product to the next, we have added two options to the Input File block:
Use the new options to specify the format and definition file options that you
want to use above all other settings. For example, let’s say that you typically use a
template when creating your jobs, and you have the format and definition files
already specified in the Auxiliary Files block. You can set these override options
to use a different format or definition file without having to remove the default
options in the Auxiliary Files block.
ACE looks for the definition and format files in the following order:
the Override options listed in the Input File block
the files with the same name in the same folder as the input file

ACE 7.70c Release Notes
Build ACE Library on Linux 4.0
If you build ACE on Red Hat Linux version 4.0, you may receive a warning
issued by the gcc compiler similar to the following.
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libstdc++.so.5, needed by libace.so, may
conflict with libstdc++.so.6.
This warning occurs because portions of the shared library were built on Linux
3.0 using gcc 3.2.3, and Linux 4.0 uses gcc 3.4.4.
If the following situations apply, then this version of ACE should be backwards
compatible:
you installed the Linux 3.0 compatibility kit option on Linux 4.0
you are building with a newer version of the compiler using materials
generated in a previous version (for example, linking “down”)
In our testing, we have not seen any issues. In the future, your provided libraries
will migrate to Linux 4.0 and the gcc 3.4.4 compiler, and the warning will
disappear. Firstlogic’s Linux Enterprise 4.0 support is on the EM64T/AM64series chipset. We will gradually phase in 64-bit support as components become
capable.
We regret any concern this may cause. We placed our priority on meeting CASS
deadlines with functional accuracy.
