BT Freelance XA

100 / 100 Tandem

Digital Cordless Telephone

This equipment is not designed for making emergency telephone calls when the power

fails. Alternative arrangements should be made for access to emergency services.

This product is intended for connection to analogue public switched telephone

networks and private switchboards in the United Kingdom.

This product is not DECT GAP compatible. It cannot be registered to any other

DECT GAP telephone and it is not possible to register additional handsets.

Handset display

Displays the status
of your handset.

Red light

Indicates that the phone
is ringing or in use.

Talk button

Use to make, receive
and end calls.

Int button

Use to make an internal call
or to transfer a call to the
BT Freelance XA 100 additional
handset (feature only available
if you have purchased the
BT Freelance XA 100 Tandem).

Recall button

For use with a switchboard/PBX

and some BT Select Services.

Also use to exit the Calls list.

Quickdial button

Use to store up to 10 numbers

that can then be dialled at the

touch of two buttons.

Keypad

Delete/Secrecy button

Use to delete digits entered

incorrectly and numbers in the

Calls list. Also used to mute a call

so the caller cannot hear you talk

to someone close by.

Calls list button

Press to enter the Calls list, to

view the last 10 calls/most recent

calls. Also use to scroll up and

down through the Calls list.

Volume button

In idle mode use to adjust
the handset ringer volume.

During a call, use to adjust
the earpiece speech volume.

Redial/Pause button

Press to redial the last number

called. Also, press to dial or

store a pause in a number.

Introduction

Your BT Freelance XA 100 is designed for ease of use and
made to the high standards set by BT.

You can expect your BT Freelance XA 100 to provide
many years of quality service. Please read the instructions
carefully before use and keep this user guide for
future reference.

DECT

By purchasing the BT Freelance XA 100 you now own
a product which combines the advantages of cordless
operation with the performance of a high quality corded
telephone. It complies with the Digitally Enhanced
Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) standard and
offers unparalleled quality and features.

This user guide applies to both the BT Freelance XA 100
and BT Freelance XA 100 Tandem telephones. Please note
the BT Freelance XA 100 range of telephones are non GAP
compatible. Please refer to page 30 for further information.

For guarantee purposes proof of purchase is required, so

General

Only use the power supply included with the product.
Using an unauthorised power supply will invalidate your
guarantee and may damage the telephone. The item
number for the single base is 872260. The item number
for the Tandem base is 006858.

For the handset use only approved Nickel Metal
Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries. Never use
other batteries or conventional alkaline batteries. They
could lead to a short circuit or destroy the battery
casing. Recommended batteries should have a power
rating of 550mAh 1.2V. Batteries are available from the
BT Freelance XA 100 Helpline 08706 058 047.

Do not open the handset or base. This could expose you
to high voltages or other risks. Contact the helpline for
all repairs.

Radio signals transmitted between the handset and base
may cause interference to hearing aids.

It is recommended that advice from a qualified expert
be sought before using this product in the vicinity of
emergency/intensive care medical equipment.

It is recommended that if you have a pacemaker fitted
you check with a medical expert before using this
product.

Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious
risk of explosion and/or the release of highly toxic
chemicals.

Safety information

Cleaning

Simply clean the handset and base with a damp (not wet)
cloth, or an anti-static wipe.

Never use household polish as this will damage the
product.

Never use a dry cloth as this may cause a static shock.

Environmental

Do not expose to direct sunlight.

The product may heat up when the batteries are being
recharged. This is normal. However, we recommend
that you do not place the product on antique/veneered
wood to avoid damage.

Do not stand your product on carpets or other surfaces
which generate fibres, or place it in locations preventing
free flow of air over its surfaces.

Do not submerge any part of your product in water and
do not use it in damp or humid conditions, such as in
bathrooms.

Do not expose your product to fire, explosive or other
hazardous conditions.

There is a slight chance that your phone could be
damaged by an electrical storm. We recommend that
you unplug the power and telephone line cord for the
duration of the storm.
