damage to equipment.
All users must readand fully understand all information containedin this owner’s manual
before assembling, operating, or maintainingthis air compressor.
Avoid Moving Parts:
Whenthe compressoris plugged into an electricalsourceand the pressure switch is in the
“ON”position, thiscompressor willcycle automatically.
• Never touch any moving parts.
• Keep all bodyparts, hair, clothing, and jewelry away from moving parts.
• Never operate the air compressor withoutall guardsand shroudsin place.
• Never stand on the compressor.
Attachments and Accessories:
For any attachment or accessoryyou will be usingwith this compressor, the maximum
allowable recommended pressure should be clearly markedon the product or should be
clearly noted withinthe operationsmanual.Exceeding the pressureratingof these
attachments (including, but not limitedto:air tools, air operatedaccessories, spray guns, air
hose, air hose connections, tires and other inflatables) couldcause them to fly apart or
explode and could result in seriousinjury.
• Never exceed the maximum allowable pressure recommended by the manufacturer of any
attachment or accessory you use with this compressor.
PersonalProtection:
The employerand/oruser must ensure that proper eye protection is worn. Eye protection
equipment must conform to the requirements of the AmericanNational Standards Institute
ANSIZ87.1 and provide bothfrontal and side protection.
NOTICE!: Non-side shieldedspectacles and face shields alone do notprovide adequate
protection. Eye protection conforming to ANSI Z87.1will always be marked “Z87”.
CAUTION:Additional Safety Protectionwill be required in some environments. For
example, the working area may include exposure to noise level which can leadto hearing
damage. The employer and usermust ensurethat any necessaryhearing protectionis
providedand used by the operator and others in the work area. Someenvironments will
require the useof head protectionequipment. When required, the employer and usermust
ensure that head protection conforming to ANSI Z89.1.
• Alwayswear eye protection.
• Wear proper hearing and head protection.
• Compressedair blast mustnever be aimedat anyone. Compressed air can causebodily
injury and can propel looseparticles and small objects at high speed.

RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION (continued)
Air Tank:
Due to condensation associated withthe process of compressingair, moisture will build up
inside your compressor’s air tank. Drain tankof moisture daily (SeeGeneral Maintenance).
Failure to drain moisture from the tank properly couldlead to the formation of rustand
thinningof the steel tank.
WARNING:FAILURE TO REGULARLY DRAIN TANK MAY CAUSETANK CORROSION AND
RISKOF TANKEXPLOSION, RESULTING IN SERIOUSINJURY. TO AVOID RISK OF TANK
FAILURE DURINGUSE, DRAINTANKAFTER EACHUSE OR EVERY FOURHOURS OF
OPERATIONTO PREVENTCONDENSATIONBUILD-UP AND TANK CORROSION.
WARNING:DO NOT PERFORM WELDING OR REPAIR OPERATIONS ON THE AIR TANK OF
THISCOMPRESSOR. WELDINGON THE AIR COMPRESSORTANK CAN SEVERELY IMPAIR
TANK STRENGTHAND CAUSE AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS CONDITION. WELDING ON
THE TANKIN ANY MANNERWILL VOID THE WARRANTY.
Ventilation:
WARNING:RISKOF FIRE OR EXPLOSION - DO NOT SPRAY FLAMMABLE LIQUID IN A
CONFINEDAREA. SPRAY AREA MUST BE WELL VENTILATED. DO NOT SMOKE WHILE
SPRAYING AND DO NOT SPRAY WHERE SPARK OR FLAMEIS PRESENT. KEEP
COMPRESSORS AS FARFROM SPRAYING AREA AS POSSIBLE.
Riskof Burns:
All air compressorsgenerate heat, even operating under normalconditions. Bostitch
compressors havebeen designed to reduce the risk of burnsby limiting accessto tubes and
cylinderhead parts. In areas where tubes are exposed,a protective sheathing has been
added to the tubes to reduce risk;however, risk of burns doesexist.
• To avoid serious burns, nevertouch the cylinderhead partsor tubingduring or immediately
after operation.

ELECTRICAL GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS:
Thisproduct shouldbe electrically grounded. Inthe event of an electrical short circuit,
grounding reduces the risk of electrical shock by providing an escape wirefor electrical
current. This product is equipped with a cord having a grounding wirewith an appropriate
grounding plug. The plug mustbe pluggedinto an outlet that is properly installedand
groundedin accordance with all localcodes and ordinances.
DANGER:IMPROPERINSTALLATION OF THE GROUNDING PLUGCAN RESULT IN A RISK
OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. Ifa repair or replacement cord is necessary, do not connectthe
grounding wire to either flat bladeterminal. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman,
if the grounding instructions are not completely understoodor if there is doubtas towhether
thisproduct is properly grounded. Donot modifythe plug provided. If the supplied plugdoes
not fit the outlet, have the proper outletinstalled by a qualified electrician.
Thisproduct is shippedfor use on a nominal120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that
looks like the plugin sketchA. A temporary adapter thatlooks likethe adapter illustratedin
sketchesB andC maybe used to connect this plugto a 2-pole receptacle as shown in sketch
B, if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporaryadapter shouldbe used only
until a properly grounded outlet (sketch A) can be installed by a qualified electrician. The
green colored rigid ear, lug, or like extendingfrom the adapter must be connected to a
permanent groundsuch as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever the adapter is
used, it must be held in placeby a metal screw.

The motor of this compressor has a thermaloverload protector in the motor winding. If the
motor shouldoverheat, the overloadprotector willshut the motoroff. Whenthe temperature
returns to normal, the motor will restart automatically.
NOTICE! Do not stopthe compressor by pullingout the plug. Use only the On/Off switch,
which operates a pressure relief valve on the compressor. If the compressor is plugged in
withthe switchin the “On” position, the compressormay have trouble restarting against the
highpressure whichcould cause excessive heatbuild up and coulddamagethe motor.
Safety Valve:
Thiscompressor is equipped with a safetyvalve thatis set to avoid over-pressurization of the
air tanks. Thisvalve is factory pre-set at 160 PSI and will not function unlesstank pressure
reaches thispressure.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADJUSTOR ELIMINATE THIS SAFETY DEVICE. ANY
ADJUSTMENTS TO THIS VALVE COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. If this device requires
service or maintenance, see an Authorized BOSTITCHService Center.

ELECTRICAL GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS: (continued)
DUTYCYCLE:
To ensure long lifeof your BOSTITCH air compressor, do not operate on more thana 50%duty
cycle. If this air compressor pumpsair more than 50%of one hour, then the compressor’s
capability is less thanthe air delivery required by the application. Alwaysmatch the air
volume requirements of the attachment or accessory withthe air volumedelivery of the
compressor.
Notice!:BOSTITCH does not recommend the use of extension cords with compressors. The
use of an extensioncord can result in the loss of voltage supplied to the compressor which
could prevent the compressor from starting. For optimum performance, plugthe compressor
directlyinto an outletand increase the length of airline as needed.
If an extensioncord must be used, use these guidelines:
Maximum Ampsat Working Pressure:12
Tank Size:1.2 Gallons
Air Outlet:1/4" NPT
Pressure Switch Settings:On @ 120 PSI
Weight:22lbs.
PSI = Pounds Per SquareInch:CFM = Cubic FeetPer Minute
115V– 60HZ
2.8 CFM @ 90 PSI
Off @ 150 PSI

FEATURES OF THE BOSTITCH CAP1512-OF
A. Pressure Switch: - The pressure switchis
the activation mechanismthat is used to
start and stop the compressor. When the
switch is “On”,the motor and pumpwill
compressair until tankpressure reaches the
upper limit of the factory set operating
pressure. Whentank pressure falls below
the factory set“cut in” pressure, the
compressor will again automatically start to
compressair.
B. Tank PressureGauge: The tank pressure
gauge indicates the air pressure that is
present in the tankin PSI (lbs/sq. in.).
C. RegulatedPressure Gauge: The
regulated pressure gaugeindicates the
amount of pressure thatis allowed into the
discharge line accordingto the settingof the
regulator.
