SERVICE BULLETIN
Bulletin Part Number: 277378-B1
Product: SoundDock
®
Digital Music System
Subject: Upgrading the SoundDock to USB charging.
Disposition: New versions of the iPod, iTouch and iPhone will only charge via the USB charge pins on the
SoundDock Cradle assembly. SoundDock systems built before 8/8/08 (DOM 8221) charge the iPod with the
firewire charge pins only.
Symptom: New versions of the iPod, iTouch and iPhone will not charge when placed on SoundDock systems
built before 8/8/08 (DOM 8221).
To determine when the SoundDock was manufactured, look to the DOM within the serial number. If the DOM is
8221 or lower, it may not charge the new versions of iPod, iPhone and iTouch models.
Example -
0357039
82213567AE
The first 6 characters identify the product code - 035703
Characters 8 to 11 identify the DOM - 8221
8221 = the 221st day of 2008
Reason: Apple changed to USB charging only.
Note: iPods built prior to 8/8/08 charged via Firewire and USB. The only exception is the non-click wheel version,
it charged via Firewire only.
Solution: Replace the complete dock assembly with service assembly shown below (installation instructions on
page two of this document).
