Disposition: Perform the steps below on all units built before 11/2000
B, 502BP, 502BE, 502BEX Loudspeakers
Symptom: Air leaks or rattles heard from the 502 bass box.
Reason: One or both of the port assemblies may be loose.
Solution number 1: When a 502 bass box is brought in for service, check for a loose port.
If found to be loose perform the following procedure:
1. Remove the loose port from the 502 bass box.
2. Cut the vinyl back according to figure 1 on the back of this bulletin.
3. Apply glue or adhesive hot melt to a new port. Refer to the table below for the proper
port part number needed.
4. Place the new port onto the bass box.
Solution number 2: For 502 bass boxes that are mounted such that they are difficult to
remove for service, the following procedure can be performed, even if the ports are not
loose:
1. Drill two 1/8" countersink pilot holes through the port only. Refer to figure 2 on the back
of this bulletin.
2. Using #8-18 AB or BP x 1.00" long (cross recess drive, flat countersunk head, self
tapping screw), secure the port to the cabinet.
3. As a precaution, perform this procedure on all 502 bass box ports that are mounted in
