Requirements Definition and Management (RDM)
Bring your Software Requirements to Life
Designed to ensure complete and accurate requirements, the Borland®RDM solution enables stakeholders to collaborate
effectively so that projects can be delivered on time, within budget, and with greater customer satisfaction. Interactive
simulations and visual scenarios can be captured and easily validated giving business and IT a common language for clear
direction. Simulations come to life with realistic data and embedded business logic, providing stakeholders a fast way of
seeing what they are really asking for and finding what may be missing before coding begins. This allows requirements to be
feedback-cycled quickly and truly validated, eliminating costly rework downstream. The simulations, scenarios, associated
resources, textual requirements and feedback can all be reviewed directly through a web browser.
Finally, the requirements generated from the Borland RDM solution can be managed and traced throughout the project lifecycle,
enabling software development teams to assess impact and respond rapidly to ever-changing requests without jeopardizing
project success. Borland offers two products that work together seamlessly in the RDM solution: Borland

REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION
Borland TeamDefine is designed to help your teams bring their
software requirements to life ensuring that requirements are
defined completely and unambiguously. Business users and
analysts can now collaborate to assemble interactive simulations
and visual scenarios in a web-based client. TeamDefine caters
to four process areas of requirements definition:

TeamDefine™and

Elicitation – Provide business users and analysts with a simple
way to collaboratively create simulations that bring requirements
to life and inspire innovation. The result is better communication
and correct requirements from the start.
Analysis – Through simulation and scenario review users can
identify significant business value in the shortest time possible.
This task is simplified greatly by easy connectivity and
contextual feedback features in TeamDefine.
Specification – Iteratively and incrementally add detail to
screens, logic and data in simulations, connect existing resources
to visual scenarios and link everything to requirements. This
ensures that all stakeholders have the information they need to
understand quickly and effectively.
Validation – Business stakeholders can clearly envision the
system by reviewing simulations, scenarios and requirements
through interaction. All feedback is captured and time
stamped for the team to review, respond and validate. This
leads to accurate and complete requirements that truly
meet the business needs.
REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT
Designed for scalable requirements management and powerful
decision support, Borland CaliberRM helps teams deliver on
key project milestones with greater accuracy and predictability.
CaliberRM also helps applications meet end-user needs by
enabling all project stakeholders — marketing teams, analysts,

developers, testers and managers — to collaborate and
communicate the voice of the customer throughout the
software delivery lifecycle. Some of the key features include:
Centralized repository – CaliberRM provides a
central, secure repository for all project requirements.
Adaptable to fit your process – CaliberRM is designed to
bring speed and agility to the requirements process.
Requirements traceability across the application lifecycle –
CaliberRM has an open architecture that permits requirements
to be linked to a variety of artifacts across the lifecycle.
Real time impact analysis – Multiple methods of traceability
visualization help users immediately understand the scope of
analysis required to gauge the effect of a requirements change.

Working together, TeamDefine and CaliberRM provide the
only solution that allows teams to seamlessly integrate their
requirements definition and management processes. Fluid
support between adjacent activities and no artificially abrupt
process/tooling gaps ensure the right requirements are elicited,
defined and then managed through the entirety of the
project lifecycle.
