Key Challenge
Failed software projects have one thing in common – poorly
understood requirements. It’s acknowledged that requirements
related problems are the root cause of most project failures and
waste. The requirements related challenges that organizations face
can be broadly categorized as either poor quality requirements
going into the development process (Requirements Definition)
or a lack of ability to deal with requirements changes once in
production (Requirements Management). A software development
team can only run as well as the requirements that fuel their
efforts. Wherever Requirements Definition (RD) or Requirements
Management (RM) practice areas are lacking, projects will always
struggle and generate waste.
If your business relies on software to deliver critical competitive
advantage, or you simply wish to streamline operational efficiency,
the degree to which you can align your business objectives to
development effort will determine business success. A unified
approach to both RD and RM sets out to achieve exactly that: to
ensure that software projects meet business needs and cope with
changing demands as they occur.

lifecycle and keeps everyone in synch with the business goals and
needs as they change. To meet this demand CaliberRDM provides
document-friendly requirements management where traditional
text-based requirements can be defined quickly and easily using
a rich-tex t interface. These link to simulations and scenarios to
ensure a rich mix of words and pictures to create clarity and
common understanding. For organizations with more demanding
requirements management processes, integration is provided with
CaliberRM allowing visualizations generated from CaliberRDM to
be traced throughout the project lifecycle. Software development
teams can then assess the impact and respond rapidly to everchanging requests. Rapid web-based feedback cycles ensure quick
validation and broad stakeholder reach, which in turn eliminates
costly rework downstream.
Scenarios and simulations managed in CaliberRDM can also be
used to automatically generate test cases that can be leveraged in
most leading test management tools. Integration with Micro Focus
SilkCentral Test Manager also provides streamlined synchronization
of requirements and test cases, enabling QA teams to effectively
bridge the gap to business requirements and jump-start testing
efforts faster and earlier in the lifecycle.
Key Benefits
CaliberRDM™ is a web-based requirements definition and
management platform that combines interactive software
simulation with traditional requirements management.
CaliberRDM excels at helping customers discover, define and
manage application requirements in a visual and interactive
manner using scenarios and simulations as the primar y exploration
tools. Designed to facilitate the elicitation process, CaliberRDM
enables stakeholders to collaborate effectively so that projects can
be delivered on time, within budget and with greater customer
satisfaction and par ticipation. Interactive simulations and visual
scenarios can be captured and easily validated giving business
and IT a common language for clear direction. Simulations bring
requirements to life with realistic data and embedded business
logic, giving stakeholders insight into how their requirements
were interpreted prior to committing to a lengthy and expensive
development project.
Combining interactive simulations with traditional requirements
management ensures that change is managed throughout the
CaliberRDM delivers the following benefits:
End-to-end requirements definition and management user
experience in one easy to use tool
Visualization through simulation provides a foundation
for innovation and a force multiplier for all downstream IT
development investments by ensuring the right thing gets built
every time
CaliberRDM helps customers reduce rework, eliminates time
wasted building unused features, speeds time to market for new
capability and helps CIO/SVP IT better optimize their project
portfolios
No synching, importing or exporting of software requirements,
is needed, as both requirement and visualizations can be created
and managed in one product
Brings speed and agility to the requirements definition process in
a user friendly fashion

Feature Overview
CaliberRDM is designed to help your teams bring their software
requirements to life by ensuring that requirements are defined
completely and unambiguously. Business users and analysts can
collaborate to assemble interactive simulations and visual scenarios
in a web-based client while simultaneously storing and managing
change to resulting requirements within the same tool.
CaliberRDM caters to four process areas of requirements definition
and management:
Elicitation: provide business users and analysts with a simple
way to collaboratively create simulations that bring requirements
to life and inspire innovation. The result is better communication
and correct requirements from the start.
Analysis: simulation and scenario review means users can
identify significant business value in the shortest time possible.
This task is simplified greatly by easy connectivity and contextual
feedback features.
Specification: iteratively and incrementally add detail to screens,
logic and data in simulations, connect existing resources to visual
scenarios and link everything to requirements. This ensures that
all stakeholders have the information they need to understand
quickly and effectively.
Validation: business stakeholders can clearly envision the system
by reviewing simulations, scenarios and requirements through
interaction. All feedback is captured and time stamped for the
team to review, respond and validate. This leads to accurate and
complete requirements that truly meet the business needs.
