enclosures:
Before insta llin g the subwoofer in an enc losure
guidelines, please observe some fundamental design
instructions:
Ÿ Subwoofers with innite baffle can be installed in a
vehicle by simply using a wooden board trimmed to
size which ensures an acoustic separation between
the front and rear of a woofer. The wooden board is
affixed in the boot under the rear shelf or at the back
of the rear seat bench. Any existing air gaps should
be sealed with sealing material.
Ÿ The shape of the enclosure plays a major role with
respect to the playback of low frequencies. However,
try to avoid unusual shapes which require extensive
work with respect to trimming and gluing.
Ÿ MDF boards or high-quality plywood made out of
birch with a thickness of 18 to 25mm are perfectly
suited for building woofer enclosures.
Ÿ All abutting housing walls should be glued, screwed
together and sealed to avoid detachment due to
vibration & external environmental inuences in a
vehicle.
Ÿ To avoid vibration, stiffening ribs or bracing are used
for large woofer enclosures.
Ÿ Acoustic insulating material which lls the inside
volume to at least 20% increases the effective
enclosure volume by 5 to 15%.
Ÿ The cables from the amplier to the subwoofer
should be kept as short as possible & have a cross
section of at least 2.5mm .
2
Ÿ The nished subwoo fer enclosure should be
perfectly stable and airtight.
Ÿ If possible, use bass reex ports with a diameter of 7
to 10cm to avoid the port noise generally associated
with smaller openings. PVC pipes are available
commercially in different diameters. The pipe
sections can be installed inside the enclosure using
appropriate joints and ttings.
Ÿ Use an active (electronic) crossover, such as those
integrated into all Blaupunkt ampliers. The use of
passive crossovers is not recommended.
