Intended use
Your Black & Decker vacuum cleaner has been designed for wet or dry vacuum cleaning purposes. This product is intended for household use only.
Safety instructions Warning! When using mains-powered appliances, basic
safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury and material damage.
X Read all of this manual carefully before using the
appliance.
X The intended use is described in this manual. The use
of any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury.
X Retain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
X Make sure that the appliance is switched off before
connecting to or disconnecting from the power supply.
X Always take care when using the appliance. X Do not use the appliance outdoors. X Never pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug
from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
X If the power supply cord is damaged during use,
disconnect the appliance from the power supply immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before disconnecting from the power supply.
X Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when
not in use, before fitting or removing parts and before cleaning.
Safety of others
X This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
X Children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the appliance.
After use
X Switch off and remove the plug from the socket before
leaving the appliance unattended and before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.
X When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry
place. Children should not have access to stored appliances.
Inspection and repairs
X Before use, check the appliance for damaged or
defective parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
X Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or
defective.
X Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or
replaced by an authorised repair agent.
X Before use, check the power supply cord for signs of
damage, ageing and wear.
X Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord or
mains plug is damaged or defective.
X If the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or
defective it must be repaired by an authorised repair agent in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.
X Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than
those specified in this manual.
Electrical safety
This appliance is double insulated; therefore no earth wire is required. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
Additional safety instructions for vacuum cleaners
X Before use, always make sure that the filter is correctly
seated.
X Do not use the appliance to pick up any materials that
could catch fire.
X Do not immerse the appliance in water. X Keep the motor draught away from eyes and faces. X Keep children and animals at a safe distance when
using this appliance.
X Always work from bottom up when using the appliance
on stairs, and keep the appliance at least a stair below your working position.
X Do not use the appliance without the suction head or
another suitable accessory mounted to the tube.
X Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving
parts. Do not reach into the rotating brush. Keep the rotating brush away from the power supply cord.
X Do not use damaged accessories. X Use only Black & Decker accessories. X In blow mode, do not direct air towards bystanders. X Do not use the appliance on animals.

Features
This appliance includes some or all of the following features.

Assembly
Removing the lid (fig. A)
X Release the two clips (14) that hold the lid (13) in place. X Carefully remove the lid from the appliance.
Fitting the lid (fig. A)
X Fit the lid to the container (1) making sure that the
blower connector (7) is adjacent to the hose inlet (19) and that the recesses in the lid line up with the clips (14).
X Fasten the two clips (14).
Assembling the wheel support (fig. B)
X Assemble the two parts of the wheel support (15)
together, make sure that they are firmly attached.
X Remove the lid as described above and turn the
container (1) upside down.
X Attach the wheel support (15) to the rim of the base of
the container (1) by applying slight pressure.
X Insert the four wheels (10), make sure that they click
firmly into place.
X Fit the lid as described above.
Fitting the paper dust bag (dry vacuuming only) (fig. C)
X Remove the lid as described above. X Fit the cardboard flange (17) of the paper dust bag (16)
around the hose inlet (18).
X Fit the lid as described above.
Connecting and disconnecting the hose (fig. D)
To connect the hose:
X Insert the hose connector (20) into the inlet (19) of the
appliance.
X Line up the hose connector tabs with the slots in the
inlet.
X Turn the hose connector (20) clockwise until it locks into
position.
To disconnect the hose:
X Turn the hose connector (20) counter-clockwise and
pull out the hose.
Fitting the handle adaptor (fig. E)
X Push the handle adaptor (3) into the end of the hose (4)
until the flange is flush with the end of the hose.
Mounting the extension tube (fig. E)
X Firmly push one of the extension tubes (2) into the
handle adaptor (3).
X If required, attach the other extension tube (2) to the
end.
Mounting accessories (fig. E and F)
The crevice tool (9) allows for vacuuming in narrow and hard-to-reach places. The upholstery tool (8) allows for vacuuming on furniture, blinds, curtains, windows and stairs.
The brush or the squeegee blade are connected to the brush/squeegee attachment (11) by sliding them into position in between the guide ribs on the brush/squeegee attachment (11).
The brush is used for dry vacuuming, the squeegee is used for wet vacuuming.
The brush/squeegee attachment (11) can be attached to the floor head (12) when required.
X To fit the brush/squeegee attachment (11), push it into
the floor head (12) until the two tabs (21) click into the slots in the brush head.
X To remove the brush/squeegee attachment (11), press
the two tabs (21) inwards in the slots in the brush head and carefully push it downwards until it is removed.
The accessories can be mounted on both the handle adaptor (3) and the extension tubes (2).
X Firmly push the accessory onto the handle adaptor (3)
or extension tube (2) as required.
X To remove an accessory, pull the accessory from the
handle adaptor or the extension tube.
Use
Switching on and off (fig. G)
X To switch the appliance on, press the on/off switch (5)
to the I position.
X To switch the appliance off, press the on/off switch (5)
to the 0 position.
Vacuuming
X When operating the appliance, make sure that the hose
is not trapped, twisted or blocked.
X In case of overheating, a cut-out will operate and the
appliance will automatically stop.

X If the appliance stops operating, unplug the appliance
and allow it to cool for 2-3 hours.
Wet pick-up
X Before using the appliance to clean up spills etc.,
remove the paper filter.
X Fit the squeegee blade to the brush/squeegee
attachment (11) and add the attachment to the floor head (12).
Using the appliance as a blower (fig. H)
X If fitted, disconnect the hose from the container as
described above.
X Push the hose connector (20) over the end of the blower
connector (7) and make sure that it is a good fit.
X To disconnect the hose pull the hose connector (20)
from the blower connector (7).
Storing the appliance Warning! When storing the appliance, switch the appliance
off and unplug it.
X Place the appliance in an upright position. X Store the appliance in a dry location. The appliance can
be carried by the handle (6).
Maintenance
Your Black & Decker appliance has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning. Warning! Before performing any maintenance or cleaning on the appliance, unplug the appliance.
X From time to time wipe the appliance with a damp cloth.
Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner. Do not immerse the appliance in water.
Replacing the paper dust bag (fig. C)
The paper dust bag (16) must be replaced regularly.
X Remove the lid as previously described. X Carefully pull the cardboard flange (17) of the paper
dust bag (16) from the hose inlet (18).
X Dispose of the paper dust bag (16) in normal household
waste.
X Wipe the inside of the container with a damp cloth. Do
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
X Fit a replacement dust bag as previously described.
Cleaning the foam filter (fig. I and J)
The foam filter (22) prevents particles and larger objects from entering the motor housing. The foam filter is fitted over a plastic frame (23) which contains a safety float valve (24).
Note: The float safety valve rises with the water level, blocking off the motor when the float safety valve reaches the top.
The foam filter (22) is re-usable and should be cleaned regularly.
X Remove the lid as previously described. X Carefully slide the foam filter (22) from the plastic
frame (23).
X Brush any loose dust off the filter or wash with water and
a neutral detergent.
It is recommended that this filter is replaced regularly, depending upon the frequency of use.
X Replace the foam filter (22) on the plastic frame (23). X Replace the lid.
Mains plug replacement (U.K. & Ireland only)
If a new mains plug needs to be fitted:
X Safely dispose of the old plug. X Connect the brown lead to the live terminal in the new
plug.
X Connect the blue lead to the neutral terminal.
Warning! No connection is to be made to the earth terminal. Follow the fitting instructions supplied with good quality plugs. Recommended fuse: 13A.
Protecting the environment
Separate collection. This product must not be disposed of with normal household waste.
Should you find one day that your Black & Decker product needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not dispose of it with household waste. Make this product available for separate collection.
Separate collection of used products and packaging allows materials to be recycled and used again. Re­use of recycled materials helps prevent environmental pollution and reduces the demand for raw materials.
Local regulations may provide for separate collection of electrical products from the household, at municipal waste sites or by the retailer when you purchase a new product.
Black & Decker provides a facility for the collection and recycling of Black & Decker products once they have reached the end of their working life. To take advantage of this service please return your product to any authorised repair agent who will collect them on our behalf.
