Intended use
Your Black & Decker handy steamer has been designed for steam cooking food ingredients This product is intended for household use only.
Safety instructions
Warning! When using mains-powered appliances, basic
safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury.
Read this entire manual carefully before using the appliance.
The intended use is described in this manual. The use of
any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury.
Retain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
Make sure that the appliance is switched off before
connecting to or disconnecting from the power supply.
Always take care when using the appliance.
Do not use the appliance outdoors.
Do not operate the appliance if your hands are wet.
Do not operate the appliance if you are barefoot.
Guide the power supply cord neatly so it does not hang
over the edge of a worktop and cannot be caught accidentally or tripped over.
Never pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug
from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
If the power supply cord is damaged during use,
disconnect the appliance from the power supply immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before disconnecting from the power supply.
Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when not
in use, before fitting or removing parts and before cleaning.
Do not place the appliance on or near heat sources or in a
heated oven.
Do not use the appliance near flammable or explosive
materials.
Always place the appliance on a level surface with
adequate free space on all sides.
Be aware that parts of the appliance may become hot
during use.
Allow the appliance to cool before fitting or removing any
parts and before cleaning.
Do not operate the appliance without water in the
reservoir.
Safety of others
Do not allow children or any person unfamiliar with these
instructions to use the appliance.
Do not allow children or animals to come near the work
area or to touch the appliance or power supply cord. Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used near children.
After use
Switch off and remove the plug from the socket before
leaving the appliance unattended and before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.
When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry
place. Children should not have access to stored appliances.
Inspection and repairs
Before use, check the appliance for damaged or defective
parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defective.
Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced
by an authorised repair agent.
Before use, check the power supply cord for signs of
damage, ageing and wear.
Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord or
mains plug is damaged or defective.
If the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or
defective it must be repaired by an authorised repair agent in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.
Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than
those specified in this manual.
Electrical safety
Always check that the power supply corresponds to the
voltage on the rating plate.
Do not immerse the appliance, power supply cord or plug in water or other liquid.
This product must be earthed.

Unpacking
Remove all packaging from the appliance,
Clean the appliance before first use.
Assembly
Warning! Before assembly, make sure that the appliance is
switched off and unplugged.
Fitting the bowl assembly (fig. A)
Fitting the small bowl
Place the punched bottom plate (7) in the bowl (8).
Put the ingredients in the bowl.
Place the bowl on the drip tray (5).
Place the lid (9) on the bowl, aligning the handles.
Fitting the big bowl
The big bowl (10) always stands on top of the small bowl (8).
Place the punched bottom plate (11) in the bowl (10).
Put the ingredients in the bowl.
Remove the lid from the small bowl.
Place the big bowl on the small bowl.
Put the ingredients in the bowl.
Place the lid (9) on the bowl, aligning the handles.
Fitting the rice bowl
The rice bowl (12) should always be placed in the big bowl (10).
Put the ingredients in the rice bowl. Add water as necessary.
Remove the lid from the big bowl.
Place the rice bowl in the big bowl.
Place the lid (9) on the bowl, aligning the handles.
Use
Filling the water reservoir (fig. B & C) Warning! Disconnect the appliance before filling the water
reservoir.
Open the water inlet (3).
Fill the water reservoir with cold water to the maximum
mark (13).
Close the water inlet (3).
Warning! Always check the water level in the reservoir before using the appliance. Fill the water reservoir when the water level is at the minimum mark (14).
If the desired cooking time is less than 15 minutes, first
turn the timer switch past the 15 minutes mark before setting the time.
When the time has passed, the bell will sound and the light (2) goes off.
Use oven gloves to take the bowl assembly off the appliance.
Carefully remove the lid (9) from the bowl.
Warning! Lift the lid away from your face and body to avoid skin burns.
Cleaning, maintenance and storage
Warning! Before cleaning and maintenance, switch the
appliance off and unplug it.
Wash the removable parts in warm soapy water and dry
well.
Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Do not use any
abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
Warning! Do not immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
Over a period of time, the drip tray and the base interior may discolour. This is normal.
Cleaning the water reservoir
Fill the water reservoir with warm, soapy water.
Use a soft brush to clean the interior of the water reservoir.
Rinse the water reservoir with clean, hot water.
Cleaning the heating element
Make sure that the bowl assembly and the drip tray are
removed.
Fill the water reservoir with vinegar.
Set the timer switch (1) to 20 minutes.
Warning! Do not allow the liquid to boil over.
After the time has passed:
Rinse the water reservoir with clean, hot water.
Use a soft brush to clean the heating element.
Warning! Never clean the heating element immediately after use as it may still be hot.
Cooking (fig. A)
Place the bowl assembly (6), filled with ingredients, on
the appliance.
Fill the water reservoir.
Set the timer switch (1) to the desired cooking time.
The heater light (2) will illuminate.
Storing the appliance
Fit the bowl assembly (6) and the drip tray (5).
