• AVOID DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT - Don’t use hedge trimmers in damp or wet locations.

• DON’T USE IN RAIN.

• KEEP CHILDREN AWAY - All visitors should be kept at a safe distance from the work area.

• DRESS PROPERLY - Don’t wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in moving parts. Use of
rubber gloves and substantial footwear is recommended when working outdoors. Wear protective hair
covering to contain long hair.

• ALWAYS WEAR EYE AND RESPIRATORY PROTECTION.

• GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) to
be used for the hedge trimmer. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection and may be used
for this measure of safety.

• USE RIGHT APPLIANCE - Do not use appliance for any job except that for which it is intended.

WARNING:To reduce the risk of electric shock use only with an extension cord intended for outdoor use,

such as SW-A, S0W-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A or SJTOW-A.

• EXTENSION CORD. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord be
sure it is heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause
a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The following table shows the correct size
to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The
smaller the gage number, the heavier the cord.

• AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING - Don’t carry plugged in hedge trimmer with finger on switch. Be sure
switch is off when plugging in.

• DON’T ABUSE CORD - Never carry hedge trimmer by cord or yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep
cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.

DANGER: Risk of cut. Keep hands away from blades. Keep both hands on handles when power is on.

• DO NOT ATTEMPT to remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure
trimmer switch is off when clearing jammed material from blades. Do not grasp the exposed cutting blades
or cutting edges when picking up or holding the hedge trimmer.

CAUTION: Blades coast after turn off.

• DON’T FORCE HEDGE TRIMMER - It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk of injury at the
rate for which it was designed.

• DON’T OVERREACH - Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

• STAY ALERT - Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate hedge trimmer when you are tired.

• DISCONNECT HEDGE TRIMMER from the power supply when not in use or when servicing or cleaning.

• STORE IDLE HEDGE TRIMMER INDOORS - When not in use, hedge trimmer should be stored indoors in a
dry and high or locked-up place- out of reach of children.

• MAINTAIN HEDGE TRIMMER WITH CARE - Keep cutting blades sharp and clean for best performance and

to reduce the risk of injury. Inspect extension cord periodically and replace if damaged. Keep handles dry,
clean and free from oil and grease.

• CHECK DAMAGED PARTS - before further use of the hedge trimmer, a guard or other part that is damaged

should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function.
Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other
condition that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired
or replaced by an authorized service center unless otherwise indicated elsewhere in this manual.

SAFETY WARNINGS: DOUBLE INSULATION

Double insulated tools are constructed throughout with two separate layers of electrical insulation or one
double thickness of insulation between you and the tool’s electrical system. Tools built with this insulation
system are not intended to be grounded. As a result, your tool is equipped with a two prong plug which
permits you to use extension cords without concern for maintaining a ground connection.
NOTE: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The
insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure
within the tool.
Replacement parts: When servicing all tools, USE IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS. Repair or replace
damaged cords.

SAFETY WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS: POLARIZED PLUGS

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this equipment has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other).
This equipment must be used with a suitable polarized outdoor 3 wire extension cord. Polarized connections
will fit together only one way. Make sure that the receptacle end of the extension cord has large and small
blade slot widths. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
obtain a suitable extension cord. If the extension cord does not fit fully into the outlet, contact a qualified
electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the tool plug or extension cord in any way.

SECURING POWER SUPPLY CORD

Secure the power supply cord and a suitable extension cord as shown.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Features (Fig. 1)

This tool includes some or all of the following features.

1. On/off switch 2. Lock off buttons 3. Secondary handle

4. Handle release button 5. Blade
This hedgetrimmer has the following features for your benefit:

• Rotating handle for comfortable cutting.

• Pre hardened steel blades for improved cutting.

• Dual action blades for reduced vibration.

Handle Rotation

Changing the position of the rotating handle

WARNING: Before changing the position of the rotating handle, make sure that the tool is switched off

and unplugged.

Rotating the handle into the right-angle position. Your hedgetrimmer will arrive with the handle in the
forward position. To rotate the handle, proceed as follows:

1. Support the underside of the unit with one hand keeping hand and fingers behind the guard. (Fig. 2)

2. Press the release button (A) with your thumb and rotate the handle (B) backward with your other hand.

3. Move the handle fully into the right-angle position. Make sure the handle clicks and locks into place. (Fig. 3)
Rotating the handle into the forward position. To move the handle from the right-angle into the forward

position, proceed as follows:

1. Support the underside of the unit with one hand.

2. Press the release button (A) with your thumb and rotate the handle (B) forward with your other hand.
(Fig. 4)

3. Move the handle fully into the forward position. Make sure the handle clicks and locks into place.

4. Insert the plug into an extension cord.

WARNING: The extension cord must be suitable for outdoor use. When using a cable reel, always

unwind the cable completely.

WARNING: Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.

• Carefully guide the cord in order to avoid accidentally cutting it.

RESPIRATOIRE.

• DISJONCTEUR DE FUITE À LA TERRE (DDFT) : Tout circuit ou toute prise de courant utilisés pour alimenter un

outil de jardinage doivent être protégés au moyen d’un disjoncteur de fuite à la terre. Des prises à DDFT
intégré sont vendues en magasin à cet effet.

• UTILISER L’OUTIL APPROPRIÉ – N’utiliser cet outil que pour des travaux pour lesquels il a été conçu.
AVERTISSEMENT : Lorsqu’on utilise un outil électrique à l’extérieur, on ne doit utiliser que des rallonges

conçues pour cet usage, comme celles de type SW-A, S0W-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A,
SJTW-A ou SJTOW-A, afin de prévenir les risques de choc électrique.

• RALLONGE : S’assurer que la rallonge est en bon état et qu’elle est en mesure de porter le courant

nécessaire à l’outil. Une rallonge de calibre inférieur entraînera une chute de tension se traduisant par une
perte de puissance et une surchauffe. Le tableau ci-dessous illustre les calibres que l’on doit utiliser selon la
longueur de la rallonge et l’intensité nominale indiquée sur la plaque signalétique. En cas de doute, utiliser
le calibre suivant. Plus le calibre est petit, plus la rallonge peut porter de courant

• ÉVITER LES DÉMARRAGES ACCIDENTELS – Ne pas transporter l’outil lorsque ce dernier est branché en

laissant le doigt sur l’interrupteur; s’assurer que l’outil est en position d’arrêt avant de le brancher.

• NE PAS UTILISER LE CORDON DE MANIÈRE ABUSIVE – On ne doit pas transporter l’outil en le tirant par le

cordon ni tirer sur ce dernier pour débrancher l’outil. On doit tenir le cordon à l’écart des sources de
chaleur, de l’huile et des bords tranchants.

DANGER : Afin d’éviter les risques de blessure, garder les mains éloignées de la lame. Saisir la poignée

des deux mains lorsque l’outil est sous tension.

• NE PAS TENTER de retirer les matières coupées ni de tenir le matériau à couper lorsque la lame tourne.

S’assurer que l’interrupteur est en position d’arrêt avant d’enlever les matières coincées dans la lame. Ne
pas soulever ni tenir l’outil en saisissant la lame exposée ou les bords tranchants de l’outil.

MISE EN GARDE : Les lames ne s’arrêtent pas immédiatement lorsque l’interrupteur est mis en position

d’arrêt.

• NE PAS FORCER L’OUTIL – Pour obtenir de meilleurs résultats et prévenir les risques de blessure, laisser

l’outil couper à la vitesse pour laquelle il a été conçu.

• NE PAS TROP ÉTENDRE LES BRAS – Les pieds doivent rester ancrés fermement au sol afin de maintenir son

équilibre en tout temps.

• RESTER VIGILANT EN TOUT TEMPS – Faire preuve de jugement lorsqu’on utilise un outil électrique; ne pas

utiliser l’outil lorsqu’on est fatigué.

• DÉBRANCHER L’OUTIL de la source d’alimentation électrique après chaque utilisation ou avant d’effectuer

les opérations d’entretien ou de nettoyage.

• RANGER L’OUTIL À L’INTÉRIEUR APRÈS CHAQUE UTILISATION – Lorsqu’on n’utilise pas l’outil, le ranger à

l’intérieur, dans un endroit sec, sous clé ou élevé, hors de la portée des enfants.

• BIEN ENTRETENIR L’OUTIL – Afin d’obtenir de meilleurs résultats et de réduire les risques de blessure,

garder les lames propres et bien aiguisées. Inspecter périodiquement la rallonge et la remplacer, le cas
échéant. S’assurer que les poignées sont toujours sèches et propres et qu’elles sont exemptes de toute trace
d’huile ou de graisse.

• VÉRIFIER LES PIÈCES ENDOMMAGÉES - Avant de poursuivre les travaux, on doit examiner attentivement

les dispositifs de protection ou toute autre pièce endommagée, afin de s’assurer que l’outil fonctionne
toujours adéquatement et qu’il est en mesure d’effectuer les travaux pour lesquels il a été conçu. Vérifier les
pièces mobiles afin de s’assurer qu’elles sont bien alignées et qu’elles ne restent pas coincées; vérifier
également les pièces et les assemblages afin de s’assurer qu’il n’y a aucun bris ni aucune autre condition
susceptible de nuire au bon fonctionnement de l’outil. On doit faire réparer ou remplacer toute pièce
défectueuse, y compris le dispositif de protection, dans un centre de service autorisé, sauf indication
contraire dans le présent guide.

ADVERTISSEMENT CONCERNANT LA DOUBLE ISOLATION

Afin de protéger l’utilisateur contre les chocs électriques, les outils à double isolation sont complètement
recouverts de deux couches distinctes d’isolant électrique ou d’une double épaisseur de matière isolante. Les
outils possédant ce type d’isolation ne sont pas destinés à être mis à la terre et, par conséquent, sont munis
d’une fiche à deux broches permettant d’utiliser une rallonge ne nécessitant aucune prise de masse.
REMARQUE : le fait que cet outil soit muni d’une double isolation ne signifie pas que l’utilisateur doit cesser
de suivre les consignes de sécurité qui s’imposent; l’isolation offre une protection supplémentaire contre les
blessures causées par un choc électrique lorsque les systèmes d’isolation internes font défaut.
Pièces de rechange : Lors de l’entretien, N’UTILISER QUE DES PIÈCES DE RECHANGE IDENTIQUES. Faire
réparer ou remplacer les cordons ou les rallonges endommagés.

DIRECTIVES ET AVERTISSEMENTS CONCERNANT LES FICHES POLARISÉE

Afin de réduire les risques de choc électrique, l’outil est muni d’une fiche polarisée (c’est-à-dire que l’une
des lames est plus large que l’autre), laquelle ne peut être raccordée qu’à une prise polarisée trifilaire et ce,
dans un seul sens; on doit l’inverser si on est incapable de l’enfoncer complètement. Si la fiche ne s’adapte
toujours pas, on doit faire appel à un électricien qualifié pour qu’il installe la prise appropriée. On ne doit
jamais modifier les fiches ni les prises d’un outil, d’un cordon ou d’une rallonge.

FIXATION DU CORDON D’ALIMENTATION

Fixer le cordon d’alimentation ainsi que la rallonge
appropriée, tel qu’illustré.

CONSIGNE DE SÉCURITÉ PARTICULIÈRES

AVERTISSEMENT : Ce produit peut produire de la poussière contenant des produits chimiques qui, dans

WARNING: Make sure the handle is fully locked in either the forward or the right-angle position.

• Slide the lock off button forward. (Fig. 5A)

• Squeeze the trigger on the rear handle. (Fig. 5B)

HINTS:
Trimming New Growth

A wide, sweeping motion, feeding the blade teeth through the twigs is most effective. A slight downward
tilt of the blade, in the direction of motion gives the best cutting.

CAUTION: Do not use the trimmer for cutting stems greater than 3/4” (19mm). Use the trimmer only for

cutting normal shrubbery found around houses and buildings.

Level Hedges - (Figure 6)

To obtain exceptionally level hedges, a piece of string can be stretched along the length of the hedge as a guide.

Side-Trimming Hedges (Figure 7)

Begin at the bottom and sweep up.
High hedges (Fig. 8) using the rotating handle in position shown high hedges can be trimmed with ease.

• DO NOT USE UNDER WET CONDITIONS.

• DO NOT USE WITH DAMAGED EXTENSION CORD.

• DO NOT UNPLUG OR STORE WITH SWITCH LOCKED ON.

MAINTENANCE

Your tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.

WARNING: Before performing any maintenance, switch off and unplug the tool.

• After use, carefully clean the blades. After cleaning, apply a film of light machine oil to prevent the
blades from rusting.

• Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool using a soft brush or dry cloth.

• Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.

• Make sure all the handle release buttons and switches are free of debris before and after use.

• Always store the tool with the handle locked in the forward position.
If you drop the trimmer, carefully inspect it for damage. If the blade is bent, housing cracked, or handles
broken or if you see any other condition that may affect the trimmer’s operation, contact your local
Black & Decker Service Center for repairs before putting it back into use.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do
not store the tool on or adjacent to fertilizers or chemicals.
With the unit unplugged, use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the tool. Never let any liquid get
inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.

IMPORTANT:

To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment should be performed by
authorized service centers or other qualified service organizations, always using identical replacement parts.

ACCESSORIES

WARNING: DO NOT use the hedge trimmer with any type of accessory or attachment. Such usage might

be hazardous.

FULL TWO-YEAR HOME USE WARRANTY

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. warrants this product for two years against any defects in material or
workmanship. The defective product will be replaced or repaired at no charge in either of two ways:
The first, which will result in exchanges only, is to return the product to the retailer from whom it was
purchased (provided that the store is a participating retailer). Returns should be made within the time period
of the retailer’s policy for exchanges (usually 30 to 90 days after the sale). Proof of purchase may be
required. Please check with the retailer for their specific return policy regarding returns that are beyond the
time set for exchanges.
The second option is to take or send the product (prepaid) to a Black & Decker owned or authorized Service
Center for repair or replacement at our option. Proof of purchase may be required. Black & Decker owned

This warranty does not apply to accessories. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have
