• Leaks from battery cells can occur under extreme conditions. If the liquid, which is a 2035% solution of potassium hydroxide, gets on the skin (1) wash quickly with soap and water or (2) neutralize with a mild acid such as lemon juice or vinegar. If the liquid gets into the eyes, flush them immediately with clean water for a minimum of 10 minutes. Seek medical attention.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (FIG. B)
Fix the charging base within reach of an electrical outlet, using the screws supplied. Plug in and place the product in position. Always mount in an upright (handle up) position. NOTE: Avoid damaging the cord while fixing the base to the wall or when removing or replacing the product from the base.
RECHARGING (FIG. C)
The charger supplied with this product is intended to be plugged in such that it is correctly orientated in a vertical or floor mount position. From new, the rechargeable cells of the product need a minimum charge time of 21 hours to ensure full power. While charging the charge indicator light will be illuminated. The switch must be in the off (“O”) position. The product will not charge if it is in any other position. While charging, the product may get warm, this is perfectly normal and safe. It can remain on charge indefinitely without damage or danger. It is not possible to “overcharge” the battery cells with the charger provided. Before recharging unit, make sure extension nozzle (from figure J) is retracted back in to bowl of the unit.
THIS PRODUCT IS FOR DRY PICK-UP ONLY.
OPERATION
Ensure that the product is fully engaged on the charging base and the charge indicator light is on.
SWITCHING ON AND OFF (FIG. D)
To start, slide the On/Off switch forward (i.e. “O”= Off, “I” = On). To stop, slide the switch
back. Always return the product to the charging base immediately after use so that it will be
ready and fully charged for the next use. Ensure that the product is fully engaged on the charging base.
CLEANING THE PRODUCT (FIGS . E-I)
WARNING: Never use the Dustbuster without its filter.
NOTE: The filter is re-usable, do not confuse it with disposable dust bags, and do not throw it away when the product is emptied. We recommend that you replace the filters every 6-9 months depending on frequency of use. See ”ACCESSORIES” for filter catalog number.
FIG. E - Remove the dust bowl by pressing the dust bowl release button and pulling the bowl down and out. To replace the bowl, place it back onto the handle and click firmly into position. Important: For best vacuum results, empty bowl after every use.
FIG. F - Empty the debris from the bowl and wash if necessary (see Fig. H).
FILTER FIG. G1 - To remove the filter twist in a clockwise direction. Shake or lightly brush any loose
dust off the filter.
FIG. G2 - If your unit is equipped with a filter cleaning slider as shown in Fig. G2 you can achieve more use between filter cleanings by first switching off the vac, and then sliding the cleaning wheel up and down as shown. Make two full cycles for best results.
FIG. H - Wash the filter using warm, soapy water and ensure it is completely dry before using it again. The cleaner the filter, the better the product will perform. It is very important that the filter is correctly in position before use. The dust bowl can also be washed in warm soapy water. CAUTION: Filter must be dry before re-assembling.
IMPORTANT: Maximum dust collection will only be obtained with clean filter and an empty dust bowl. If dust begins to fall back out of the product after it is switched off, this indicates that the bowl is full and requires emptying.
FIG. I - Never immerse the product in water. A damp cloth and soapy water should be used to clean the exterior of the motor section. Always ensure the product is completely dry before re-use or storing.
ECONOMIC USAGE
• Your product is very economical to charge. While it is charging it uses less electricity than a typical night light bulb.
• When fully charged and with a clean filter, the average effective usage times vary by voltage.
7.2 volts: 7 - 9 minutes 9.6-12 volts: 9-11 minutes
14.0 volts and higher: 12-15 minutes
TROUBLE SHOOTING
If the product does not work, check the following:
• That the charge indicator light is on when unit is in base.
• The charger was correctly plugged in for recharge. ( It feels slightly warm to the touch.)
• The charger cord is not damaged and is correctly attached to the base.
• The charger is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
• That the switch is in the “OFF” position when charging.
ACCESSORIES

IMPORTANT: To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and
adjustment (other than those listed in this manual) should be performed by authorized service centers or other qualified service organizations, always using identical replacement parts.
THE RBRC™ SEAL
The RBRC™ (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation) Seal on the nickelcadmium battery (or battery pack) indicates that the costs to recycle the battery (or battery pack) at the end of its useful life have already been paid by Black & Decker. In some areas, it is illegal to place spent nickel-cadmium batteries in the trash or municipal solid waste stream and the RBRC program provides an environmentally conscious alternative. RBRC in cooperation with Black & Decker and other battery users, has established programs in the United States and Canada to facilitate the collection of spent nickelcadmium batteries. Help protect our environment and conserve natural resources by returning the spent nickel-cadmium battery to an authorized Black & Decker service center or to your local retailer for recycling. You may also contact your local recycling center for information on where to drop off the spent battery, or call 1-800-8-BATTERY.
