Setup

• Check shredder f or damage or defects. (To notice some particles o f paper is normal

due to product testing. )

• Plug the power cord into any easily reach ed standard outlet.

• To use, have the power switch (1), located on the back of the s hredder,
in the ON (–) position.

• Press the on/o ff switch (2) to activate the auto-fee d mechanism.

• Place allotted am ount of paper into the shredder. Shredder will automatically acti vate.

(=) indicates Forward
(o) when illuminated auto -feed activated
(–) indicates Reverse

Maintenance

ALWAYS UNPLUG shredder before performing any maintenance. It is impor tant to empty

the waste bin regularly to ensure the smooth op eration of the cutting cylinders. Re gular
oiling is also necessary for pro per performance. It is recommended to use the shre dder oil
every few weeks. Do not use f lammable synthetic oil, petroleum -based products or
aerosols of any kind on or near produc t at any time. Shredder oil may be purchased at most
retailers in the shredder sec tion of the store.

Troubleshooting

If you have a problem with your shredder, check the sympto ms and remedies below.
If you cannot solve the problem this way, contact Bl ack & Decker paper shredders
Customer Service. Do not ope n shredder head to attempt re pair: It could expose

you to electric sho ck and will void your warranty.

Product Information

This product is built to shred paper, CDs, DVDs, credit cards, and staples.
It is not built to shred large paper clips, continuous forms, adhesive labels, transparencies,
newspaper, cardboard or other plastic. Using it for these purposes is likely to cause
irreparable damage.

Forward and Reverse Buttons

Forward and reverse buttons surround the

on/off switch. If jam occurs and auto reverse

process stops, you can alternate between

forward (=) and reverse (–) to work out of a jam.

more details.

Indicator Light

To provide ease-of-use, your Black & Decker paper shredder has an indicator light as visual
cues to communicate any problems.

If the light below the thermometer icon is ILLUMINATED, the shredder needs to
cool down. Simply turn off the shredder and let cool for approximately 30 minutes.

If the light above the bin full icon is FLASHING, the shredder bin needs to be
emptied. Unplug shredder, empty the bin and replace bin for continued use.

paper jam, and when tra nsporting or storing shre dder.

ALWAYS empty the wastebasket prior to becomi ng full.

Symptom

Remedy

- Make sure shredder is pl ugged in, power switch on

back of unit (1) is in the ON (–) position, a nd push
on/off swi tch (2) so that it is illuminated, and on.

Shredder does not start o r stops
while shredding.

Paper jam.

- Wait 30 minutes for shredder to coo l down before
trying again. If shre dder is overheated, indicator

light (4) will be on.

ALWAYS unplug before emptying bi n.

- In case of a paper ja m, which may occur if the sheet
capacity is exceeded o r if paper is not put in
straight, turn off the sh redder, unplug and empty

the bin (5) if full. Prepare sh redder for use. Then:

1. If the shredder remains jammed, use the forward and
reverse buttons (3) surrounding the on/off switch (2)
marked (=) for forward and (–) for reverse. Alternate

the buttons between forward and reverse to the clear
the jam.

2. If the jam still does not clear, unplug shredder and

carefully grasp the pap er and pull out slowly.

3. Once the jam is cleared, plug in, turn on and press the

on/off switch to continued shredding.
